unfair advantages
In a competitive RP thread, what is the rules on a force user PC using powers against a non-force user PC? Are they not allowed for sake of being fair, are certain ones allowed(for example, you can use one as long as it isn't an instant win)? What are the exact limitations?

You can use them. How it affects the other person is between you and them. Think of it like any other action. Essentially: You attempt an action. They get to respond.
You shoot at me.
I can rp it missing, a glancing blow, a direct hit, or whatever.
You try to mind trick me into thinking there's no droids around.
I can fall for it.
or
Me smart. Me has strong will. Me no fool for clearly false statement of no droids in room full of droids. Me rp so.

The only way you're ever going to get an instant win in PC vs PC, FU or not, rp is if one of the parties wants that to happen.

Re: unfair advantages
So what about something like force choke or mind shard where there’s no real defense for it?

You're still falling under the you attempt an act and they get to react. Context is a lot when it comes to this stuff.
Choke, they may shoot at you, say something that changes things, hold their breath, I don't know. Stuff can happen. It's not you use force choke and its over is what I'm getting at. Mind shard may affect one PC more than another. I don't know enough about it to say more.
Context. Who is involved. What's reasonable given the circumstances. Ya know? Basically like every other situation you can get into. The force is a very powerful tool in your belt. It makes being a non-fu on a fu heavy board interesting. :3
The old board I could point you to FU vs Non-FU rps to look at as examples and give ya ideas. So... I'll shut up now and let B respond. That's always the smart move. xD

Re: unfair advantages
You are correct, for a bunch of Force powers there is no immediate defense/armour but like anything in RP there is move and countermove. For instance, you cant logically STOP someone from force choking you but at the same time they cant immediately apply it. So I make to force choke you, you feel the pinch, and fire a blaster bolt at me. Considering it takes active concentration for most of the powers which have no defense, I can take the bolt to the chest or break the hold over you.
Like Zechs said, its all give or take, and considering you get nothing except a stern word from the staff for being a pleb in combat situations, you're better off just having a chat with whomever you're writing with.
