**Colossus Sprint Racetrack, Race One**

The draft was over and dozens of racers had gone home disappointed to not have been drafted onto a team. For those racers that were drafted, they were gathered on the refueling station, having congregated into their teams' garages in preparation of the upcoming tour. The day of the first race had come, and the team captains, considering the courses that would be run first in the tour, had selected their racers to compete. Eight racers would compete in this first event, and the inhabitants and travelers onboard the refueling station had amassed at the tavern and all across the borders of the station to watch.

The Galactic Sports Programming Network was again present, with their long reporting desk strategically placed atop the control tower where the station captain normally conducted his duties. The experts, insiders, and commentators, five in total, had much to discuss. Each team captain was responsible for selecting two racers from the team to participate in this event. As with any decision in sports, the team selections had been analyzed, scrutinized, and criticized since the information was made public. The experts hosting the race's pre-show dug into the details of why each decision had been made, and the discussion was making for a great holofeed.

"I can't understand the decision by Team Bolner. You've got Ben Kenobi, a racer with a track record on the Colossus Circuit, and you're sitting him and his Z-95 Headhunter. What are you waiting for?" An expert asked his co-hosts, thumping his finger on the top of the desk to accentuate his points, "It's selfishness by the captain. He thinks he can run the course better than Kenobi. He's looking at the other teams, all of them sending in their captains, and Bolner says, 'I'm not going to be the one left out.' That's what it is! That's it."

Two of the other co-hosts groaned and disagreed with their colleague, raising their own points to the contrary. One of the sentients behind the desk took his turn to speak and brought up matters on another team.

"Look at The Risen, being captained by Kita Ikari. Why aren't you sending out Tormentous in his R-22 Spearhead? It's built for this course! Look, I've been in a lot of races in my lifetime, and you don't win them by playing it safe. Yes, he could crash, which means his racecraft would be unavailable in the next event, but anyone could crash on any course. It's too safe of a decision," the former racer, now turned host, announced.

This carried on for some time, as the panel of hosts and experts detailed Team Badaash's decision to leave Salem Norongachi in the garage, in favor of fielding two slower, though more durable craft. The darling of each of the panelists was Team Derivative, captained by Zasabi Ray, who was praised for not only submitting their entry cards early, but making both decisions based on speed of racecraft and course conditions.

After more time had passed, the eight racecraft began to filter out of each garage and take their positions at the starting gate, which was indicated by two floating beacons connected by a containment field. The beacons would flash lights which indicated that the racers prepare their craft, before giving the signal to start and dropping the containment field so that the racecraft could accelerate past on their way to the first checkpoint.

With all racers in their designated positions and standing by with repulsorlifts engaged, the beacons began to flash. The crowd began to roar on the refueling station in anticipation of the engines firing off. The race was about to begin!

((OOC: I'm not criticizing any of your selections, you all did fine. That's just how sports talk is, baby!))

Team Derivative seems to be pacing one another, as both Zasabi and Sa'ato are off to a generous lead ahead of the pack. Team Bolner's captain is not far behind, though, and he looks to be angling to shave off some time heading into the second checkpoint. His teammate, Aliclair Austjor, is right in the thick of the pack after a crowded start; she was trying to break out ahead, but it looks like she got angled out in the end and she's stuck alongside fan-favorite Varn Badaash and The Risen captain, Kita Ikari. I'm not sure if there was trouble at the starting line or if they got caught in the engine wash of the other racers, but Ranah Jansen and Darth Fett are lagging a few minutes behind the pack through the first gate. There's plenty of time to maneuver, though, and coming into the second checkpoint, some of these racers are going to have to make a move to squeeze through the checkpoint ring. Here we go onto the second checkpoint...!

Team Derivative continues to lead the way, and it appears that Sa'ato Mors has edged out his team captain, Zasabi Ray. It is possible, though, that Sa'ato is merely pacing Zasabi, and will allow the team captain to pull ahead later in the race in order to claim the victory. That is, assuming they last that long at the front of the pack! The number one overall selection in the draft, Aliclair Austjor is making a move as we come into the second checkpoint, and she seems to have shaved quite a bit of time off. She's moving within striking range of Zasabi Ray. Crowd favorite Varn Badaash is lurking ahead of the pack now, and there's no doubt in anyone's mind that he has the skill to make a move later on in this race, but the question is if he can maintain his pace just behind Aliclair Austjor. Two team captains are further back and they're jockeying for position with one another. It appears that Ranah Jansen and Darth Fett are still struggling to find their footing in this race; they'll need to do something soon, otherwise they'll be too far back to catch up. Here we come into the checkpoint and... Oh! Sa'ato Mors has come in with too much speed, and he's collided with the checkpoint ring. He's pulled the ship back into position, but he definitely took some damage and won't want to be doing that again. Whew that'll get the blood pumping but-- oh no, not again! Aliclair Austjor has just collided with the checkpoint ring as well! It looked to be the same problem that Sa'ato Mors had when coming through the checkpoint; she just had too much speed and couldn't maneuver through.

Despite catching his racecraft on the checkpoint ring, Sa'ato is still holding an impressive lead, with his team captain, Zasabi Ray, not far behind. Here they come through the marker... They're going too fast! Sa'ato collided again! There's a gouge in the fuselage of his racecraft from the damage. Zasabi Ray has collided as well! Was he so focused on his teammate that he correctly monitor his speed? What happened? They both seem to have pulled their racecraft back into position, but that's some dangerous racing by Team Derivative. Here comes Varn Badaash, and he's on a tear. He looks like he's making his move, having shaved quite a bit of time off heading into this checkpoint. He's positioning himself to head through the checkpoint ring... Oh, what was that?! A laser blast has come out of nowhere and has stricken the racecraft of Varn Badaash! His racecraft is heading down into the water... He's landed and I hope he's alright. There are pirates lurking in the cloud cover over the course! I can't believe that this has happened, and to Varn Badaash, no less. Here, now, is Team Bolner's captain pulling up to the checkpoint ring. Another pirate attack! He's heading down into the ocean, as well! Look at the smoke coming from his engines, I can't believe this! Two team captains have been eliminated from this race. I can't imagine they'll be able to race in the next event with the damage to their racecraft...

This is the last checkpoint before the finish line now, and Sa'ato Mors is still in the lead, though perhaps he's learned to cut his pace down a bit after hearing reports from the crew regarding pirate attacks. Zasabi Ray also appears to have taken some precautions after his collision, but they're still well in the lead, and the final results are all but between he and his fellow Team Derivative racer. What's this? Not to be outdone, first overall draft selection for Team Bolner, Aliclair Austjor, has made a big move and has separated from the pack. She's gotten within striking range of the Team Derivative duo, but-- oh! She's clipped her racecraft for the second time on the checkpoint ring. Can she maintain her pace heading toward the finish line? Kita Ikari, captain of Team Risen, is close enough to perhaps make a move for third place, but where is her teammate? Oh my! The pirates have pulled in behind the last of the racers and have downed Ranah Jansen! They're gliding down toward the ocean now, and it seems that their racecraft has lost power.

Here we are, coming down the stretch to the finish line now! Team Derivative is still holding a commanding lead on the race, but we're seeing the anticipated move now by the team captain, Zasabi Ray. Sa'ato Mors seems to have voluntarily dropped back, and allowed Zasabi Ray to pull ahead for the lead. I'm not sure anyone is stopping either of them at this point! Look at Team Risen, though! Captain Kita Ikari has bypassed Aliclair Austjor in an impressive display of flying and has come into position just behind Sa'ato Mors. It's too late to take the lead at this point, but it looks to be that Kita Ikari will finish with an impressive third place. As they're coming across the finish line now, it's Zasabi Ray in first, and Sa'ato Mors in second, followed by Kita Ikari at the podium and Aliclair Austjor in fourth place. Darth Fett never quite found his footing in this race, and pulls into the finish marker in last of the competitors still standing.

What an exciting race with plenty of jockeying throughout. The leaders at the top end couldn't be beat, though, and Team Derivative has to be satisfied with a one-two finish today. We've got another 5 lap race on course next, and the pirate menace seems to have been cleared out. Unfortunate for the racers that were affected today, but we'll see them soon, hopefully.

The competition committee has announced the course for the third race on the tour... It seems to be another Colossus Sprint (5 Laps)! Erm... I guess that's okay... Racers should be advised to watch out for obstacles that might interfere with the course (Asteroid Field).

Final results to be verified and posted below.

**Mid Rim, Western Reaches, Tashtor Sector**
**Castilon System, Castilon**
**Colossus Sprint Racetrack, Race Two**

The first of five races had been completed in the previous week, and the results were now displayed on a floating holographic screen just outside of the refueling station in preparation of the second week of racing. With the news that this week's race and the following week's race would be held at the Colossus Sprint Racetrack, the visitors and inhabitants of the refueling station had virtually taken up permanent residence on-site. Over the course of the week, a burgeoning cluster of tents and shelters had been erected along the outermost boundaries of the refueling station. Though station security had to step in at some points for fear that the race fans would endanger themselves by camping out too closely to incoming freight traffic that were attempting to refuel at the station, the communities were by and large allowed to remain. When and if future races extended to the longer tracks, there possibility for fans to be up close and personal to the action would be diminished, and thus, it was expected that the makeshift tent communities would break down as fans congregated instead to the tavern to watch the race unfold.

Having become a common presence at the refueling station, the GSPN crew had arrived back on station only a day prior to retake their nesting place atop the station's control tower. The hosts, experts, and insiders had much to discuss, from the initial decisions by the team captains prior to the first race, to the results, and finally what to look forward to in today's race. Race coverage began with a retired racer reiterating their position that Team Badaash had taken themselves out of the running by sitting Salem Norongachi and his Z-95 Headhunter. The other hosts on the panel immediately jumped on their colleague's opinion, stating that there was plenty of races to come, and a poor outing by Team Badaash in the first race could be overlooked with success in later races, particularly if both members of the team succeed in reaching the finish line from here on out.

The point of racers failing to finish caused the hosts to change topic and focus on that line of discussion for a while. The racers seemed to have to get a feel for the course in the first race, and many of them felt the consequences of that by colliding with the waypoint markers at several points throughout the first race. One of the hosts wondered aloud if the racers would adjust to the course and intentionally slow down coming into the waypoints, so as to not threaten the integrity of their racecraft. There was mixed response to this question, as one expert noted that the racecraft in today's event would be, in general, less durable to collision and built more for speed.

As the racecraft began to pull out of each of the four garages, the crowd came to life. The holofeed began to focus more on the racecraft pulling into position at the start, rather than focusing on the hosts. It appeared that the second race on tour was about to begin!

There's the countdown, annnnnd... here we go! Listen to the roar of those engines, race fans! Look at the boost that Darth Tormentous is getting right out of the gate. He's pulled ahead of the pack, and he's really showing the advantage that an R-22 Spearhead carries in this short distance race. Just behind him though, is first overall selection Aliclair Austjor; she's got to be feeling some pressure after coming in from the first race with a fourth place finish. She's not flying the fastest ship on the track, but she looks to be handling it like an expert as she trails just behind Darth Tormentous. Wait! Right behind her is Team Badaash member, Darth Fett. It's certainly a surprise to see him ahead of the pack after his last race, but he's looking crisp heading into the first checkpoint. Zasabi Ray seems to have a nose for the front of the pack, and he's outmaneuvered Norongachi, Ikari, and Mors. He looks to be drafting behind the leaders and it's possible that he's looking to make a move...

No trouble coming out of the first checkpoint, everyone is intact, though the front runners have started to emerge. Sure enough, Team Derivative captain Zasabi Ray has made his move, and just look at the trail coming from his engines! He's pouring everything into this move as he jumps past Darth Fett and Aliclair Austjor. Aliclair seems to have lost a little time, perhaps instead focusing on Zasabi, but she remains ahead of Norongachi and Mors. It seems that Ben Kenobi and Kita Ikari have lost their footing on this race, and they're behind the rest of the competitors by a bit of distance. There's still a bit of race to go, as the top racers approach the second checkpoint. Oh! Look at Zasabi Ray! He's lost a bit of control heading into the second checkpoint marker and he's collided with the ring. Fortunately, he's bounced off, but look at the damage on his wing! A few hull panels have flown off into the ocean, but he's managed to pull the racecraft back into position. We'll have to keep an eye on that; Zasabi was clearly pumping too much power to the engines and failed to adjust his trajectory through the checkpoint marker, as we've seen from other competitors in the first race.

Zasabi still is maintaining, no, he's stretching his lead over the competition. He's ahead of former frontrunner Darth Tormentous by a fair stretch now. The only danger, though, is that collision heading into the second checkpoint. We have to keep an eye on that. It seems that a small pack of racecraft are jockeying for position right now, as Tormentous, Fett, Norongachi, and Mors are all pushing their racecraft to the limits to nose ahead of one another. You have to wonder how this stalemate will break heading into the third checkpoint, because at some point they'll need to get through the ring and there's not room for all four of them at once. You can feel the collective intake of breath from around the station... they're getting awfully close to that checkpoint marker and something has to happen here. Oh my! Oh! Salem Norongachi has edged his racecraft up against Sa'ato Mors' racer now, and he's trying to push him out. I can't believe what I'm seeing; Salem's racecraft is very undersized to be taking on Mors' YT-1300 in a punching match, but we do know how team captain Varn Badaash races and he's no doubt preached the adage of, "If you ain't rubbin', you ain't racin'," to his team members. I'm not sure what effect we're seeing from the aggressive maneuver, though, and they're coming up on the waypoint marker now... Oh! They slipped through at more or less similar times, but both Salem and Sa'ato's racecraft look to be worse for wear after their test of courage. Rounding out the bottom of the standings now are Kenobi, Austjor, and Ikari, who, with a couple of moves, could be right back in this race, though time is running short.

Zasabi Ray has once more engaged his thrusters to full capacity! Can you even believe what we're seeing here? He's leaving nothing on the track, and it appears that he wants to get enough of a lead that Darth Tormentous can't possibly catch him between now and the end of the race. Further back, we're seeing another shocking move; it seems that Salem Norongachi has thrown all caution to the wind, and he's kicked his own Z-95 Headhunter into a brilliant bit of maneuvering. Darth Fett and Darth Tormentous are now pacing one another, and you have to wonder who will come out ahead on that battle for supremacy. This race is all but over for Mors, Kenobi, Austjor, and Ikari at this point; they've just got to hope for a finish. The leaders are now heading into the fourth checkpoint marker... Zasabi Ray seems to be correcting his trajectory through the ring, but... Wow! Oh no! A push for the track record is going down in flames, as Zasabi Ray sheared off a wing from his racecraft heading through the marker. He's pinwheeling down into the ocean, let's hope that the waves extinguish that fire burning off the back end of his racer and that the emergency crews get there in a timely fashion. What a shame to see-- Ah, look at this now! Salem Norongachi, the potential frontrunner at this point of the race has fallen victim to his own brand of aggressive racing. He's collided with the checkpoint marker and the damage has caused his engines to fail, sending him gliding down into the ocean nearby Zasabi. Things have gotten interesting now with the top two leaders out of the race! Everything has suddenly opened up for Darth Fett or Darth Tormentous to take this race! Could it be possible for a Firespray to outrun a R-22 Spearhead?

Here we come into the final lap now. The path is clear for either Darth Fett or Darth Tormentous to take the win. Neither one is letting up! It seems that as Fett moves ahead slightly, Tormentous' raw speed makes up the gap. Certainly, Fett is flying the cleanest race that we've seen as far as efficiency of maneuvers, but even unblemished flying like this can't defend forever against the speed of an R-22 Spearhead. The race fans are going crazy as they come into the finish. There's no clear leader right now; they're completely even with one another. This is one for the high-speed camera, because just looking with the naked eye, it's impossible to tell who is leading! Here comes the finish line and... We just can't say! We don't know who won this race! Both racers are waggling their racecraft from side to side in celebration, and it's safe to assume they each think they've won! If we can spare even a moment now from the question of the overall winner, look at the pack coming up behind them! Kenobi, Austjor, and Ikari are all aligned heading to the finish line. Here they come, now, and it's the same result! We have no idea just by watching in full speed who won! It appears that Aliclair has taken a bit of damage coming across the finish, but she has hung right in there with Kenobi and Ikari coming across the line. We will need to wait for the verified results, but this race has finished in the most unlikely circumstances. What are the odds? What a treat for the fans and what a controversy for us to talk about for the next week!
