A New Arrival

[Jortian Toch]

The Imperial Shuttle dropped out of hyperspace above the planet Bastion. Aboard was a bright and young Zabrak willing to do his part in defending the galaxy against the Rebels.

"This is shuttle ST-455 transmitting clearance codes to the Imperial Academy", The pilot said.
A jumbled alien voice came back through and the shuttle sped towards the surface.

Jortian Toch sat still in his flight chair, poised and straight. He allowed his eyes, and only his eyes, to roam around the room. A couple other cadets sat still in their chairs, unmoving. Jortian allowed his head to swivel and he panned the room getting a good look at the other cadets in their seats. Mir'alan, Twi'lek, Rodian, and two humans.

"With the growing threat of the rebellion the Empire needs as many new personnel as they can grab.", Jortian thought to himself.

The shuttle suddenly jerked as it broke through the atmosphere heading towards the Academy. A few moments later it was landing softly inside the hanger. As the shuttle came to a full stop a Imperial Officer stepped into the room.

"Cadets, welcome to the Imperial Academy of Bastion. Please exit the shuttle with your ID card in hand so that the security team can confirm your identity." he said quickly.

Jortian stood up from his chair and noticed that he was first in line, closest to the exit ramp. Within his first few steps he was already scanning the large hanger, noticing every moving thing. TIE fighters landing and taking off, troopers marching together, officers walking in pairs and directly at the bottom of the ramp stood a security detail. A standard security officer stood ready with his Droid. The officer put his hand up and spoke.

"ID please." he requested.
"yes of course, sir." Jortian responded.

He placed his ID in the officers hand and the officer placed the card into a open slot in the droids dome. After a couple seconds a loud beep of confirmation came back and the droid spit the card back out. The officer placed the card back into Jortians hands.

"Thank you Cadet Toch, please stand over there on that yellow line." he ordered.

Jortian nodded and briskly walked to the beginning of the yellow line and stood at attention waiting to be addressed.

[Rhoden Carbine]

Commander Rhoden Carbine stood in the background watching the cadets. All of these new recruits had shown great promise, especially notable due to the number of aliens among them, despite recent changes the Empire was still not the friendliest to other species. Rhoden noted a young Zabrak, his personal experiences with the species compelling him to look at the man's records.

A Lietenant walked into the hangar, smiling smugly to himself. The smile seemed to slip as he saw Rhoden, and his back straightened. He turned and began addressing the cadets. "You have all been given an unprecedented opportunity." he began, "All of you showing great promise at the preparatory academies, you will--ah--make fine Imperial officers." the Lieutenant finished rather lamely, Rhoden suspected his speech had been longer and less favorable up until Rhoden's unforeseen arrival.

Rhoden stepped forward now, "Welcome to Bastion, Cadets." he said, removing his helmet. "As each of you has shown exceptional promise so early in your careers I will be checking in on your progress regularly." Rhoden turned to the Lieutenant "Is there anything else?" he asked. The man seemed to swallow before giving a weak smile, "No, sir. Dismissed!" he said, turning to the Cadets. The man began to make his mistake before Rhoden caught his arm. "The Zabrak, his name and room assignment." Rhoden said. "Ah--Jortian Toch, Room 832." he responded, Rhoden released him and walked off. He headed back to his YT-2000, he'd give the Cadet time to get through the usual introductory hassle, and he'd be able to take a look at his record in the meantime.

[Jortian Toch]

Jortian stood still in line as he watched the man walk towards the exit of the hanger. The Lieutenant clapped his heels together to grab everyones attention.

"That is Commander Rhoden Carbine, just so you are aware. He oversees some things here. Now, on these encoded discs are your first set of assignments. Included in the data is your room numbers, please proceed to the habitation modules and get ready for you first sets of training that start in a few hours.", the Lieutenant saluted the cadets and walked off in the direction that Rhoden walked off too. Jortian stared at the man as he walked away before he took the data disc from the officer in front of him. He grabbed his duffel bag and headed with the rest of the cadets to habitation module B.

The ride down to the module was quick, as the doors on the lift opened to a busy hallway of officers and stormtroopers. He stepped out of the lift and to the side of the hallway where he wouldnt get in anyones way. He placed the data disc into his portable data pad and green text began to litter the screen. He surfed through, past his assignments and into his personal message box to find a email stating his room number followed by a set of rules.

"Room B-832...ok then.", he said as he looked up at a sign on the wall that pointed to the rooms.
"Rooms B-830 to B-860", Jortian read allowed.

He followed the arrow next to the sign that pointed him to his quarters. Pushing past all the business in the hallway till he reached the door that lead to the rooms. As he approached the door they slid open with a hiss revealing a row of doors that went on for a while down the hall. He entered this small narrow passage and began to read off the numbers on the doors, luckily his door was near the front. He stopped infron of his door and imputed the code that was provided to him on the email. The door flew up revealing a grey scale, single bed room with a bathroom and a personal dresser aswell as a holo-projector that was displaying the Imperial News Network. The holo was projected onto the wall above the dresser, across from that sat his bed. He stepped over to it and threw his duffel bag onto it and sat down all in one motion.

"Hmm, its actually pretty comfy in here. Especially this bed.", he said to himself.
He reached into his duffel bag and pulled out his datapad and began reviewing his assignments.

[Rhoden Carbine]

Rhoden finished reading over the cadet's record, he was indeed living up to expectations. Rhoden smiled to himself, downed the rest of his tea which had unfortunately become rather cool and left his ship. He had been on Bastion for a few weeks taking some time to look around, he had spent some time at the Academy as of late and had taken over minor operations within the past week, something new to do.

Rhoden walked up to the Cadet's room, double checking the number. Rhoden opened Toch's assignment log, nothing but general orientation for the rest of the day. Rhoden nodded to himself and pressed the ringer on the Cadet's door.

[Jortian Toch]

Jortian looked up at his door in response to the ringer. He stood up from his bed and quickly brushed his hands down his torso making sure to get any unsightly speck of dust or dirt off his imperial uniform. He quickly polished his cadet rank badge, that sat pinned to his right breast, with his sleeve. He stepped over to the door and pressed the button and stood at attention when the door flew up revealing none other than Commander Rhoden Carbine.

"Good evening, Sir!", Jortian said as he saluted.

[Rhoden Carbine]

Rhoden smiled. "At ease, cadet." he said. "I've been looking at your record." he said, without preamble. "Top of you class, unsurprisingly adept at hand-to-hand combat, loyal." Rhoden continued, "Walk with me, I'll be showing you around the facility."

Rhoden walked with the young cadet, giving a running commentary on not only the various locations and facilities but on any personnel who happened to pass them by. "Lieutenant Mabers." Rhoden said as the Lieutenant who had welcomed the cadets rushed past, throwing only a cursory glance at the pair. "A rather overblown opinion of himself, rather biased with his underlings." Rhoden said simply. "Now, I'm telling you all of this because you're fighting an uphill battle." Rhoden said, "The Empire may have become more accepting in some areas but there are more than a few still who cling to old sentiments. I expect great things from you, Cadet." Rhoden continued as they reached a large outdoor courtyard. Rhoden gestured to a statue in the center of the yard and was about to speak when there was a crack of blasterfire.

Not one crack, not two, but many. An alarm began wailing. "With me, Cadet!" Rhoden yelled, drawing his blaster and rounding a corner in the direction of the blasterfire. A voice cut over the alarm and blasterfire as the intercomm came on "Attack, all Stormtroopers to the main hangar!" Rhoden's face hardened, he'd bet heavily that the target of the attack was himself. He wondered vaguely how much firepower he rated.

[Jortian Toch]

In response to the Blaster Fire, Jortian drew his small SE-14 combat pistol. He ran alongside Rhoden as they ran towards the main hanger.

"Fire in hanger C! Fire teams see to it!", A trooper screamed into his wrist comm as he ran past us.

As we ran towards the main hanger Jortian spoke to Rhoden.

"An attack? Here in the heart of Imperial space?! Who would dare do this to us?"

[Lady Kota]

Her red armor stood out among the sea of white, she was one her way to see these new recruits. It was part of her job to screen them, which had been generally a waste of her time. The alarms blared, she looked up at the source of the noise. 'Who the hell turned the alarm on?' She thought. Kota walked towards the hangar, she was not in any sort of mood for this.

When she got there she saw the fire and blaster fire, this was irritating, however there was something else. Something was bothering her force senses, but she didn't know what. Her blades came to her hands, she didn't exactly what it was that was bothering her in the force.

Jortian rounded the corner of the Hanger and saw a firefight between New republic troops and Stromtroopers. He aimed his combat pistol at the nearest target and down the enemy with a single shot to the head. Rhoden dashed off to another part of the hanger leaving him alone with a woman in red armor and a squad of stormtroopers. He ran up next to the woman who had her weapons in her hands, he aimed his pistol once more and began firing back at the enemies in the hanger.

"Whats going on?!", he shouted over the screams of the battle.

[Rhoden Carbine]

Rhoden was more than a little surprised at the brazenness of the New Republic when he saw that the attackers were New Republic Special Forces. Rhoden saw the Grand Inquisitor standing, weapons drawn, leaving the young Cadet with her he charged at one of the hostiles.

The blasterfire faltered as the troops noticed him sprinting towards them, before several rifles swung around to greet him. Confirmation, Rhoden thought darkly, that he had indeed been the target of this attack. Rhoden did not slow, nor did he draw his blaster. He slammed full tilt into the closest hostile, drawing his vibroblade and cutting a deep gash through the other man's throat. Rhoden flung the blade into the stomach of another trooper, drawing his blaster and diving behind the dead Rebels' cover. Rhoden yanked his vibroblade out of the body and brough his blaster up, spitting death at the foolish criminals who dared attack the Empire.
