Canto Nights {Open/Multifaction}

Post by Sam Tallav » Fri Jul 29, 2022 8:17 pm

CANTO BIGHT, CANTONICA
CANTONICA SYSTEM, CORPORATE SECTOR

Never in her life had Rabé seen this many lights, as if the stars themselves had made planetfall. The galaxy's finest, all gathered together to celebrate being the galaxy's finest. The creamy white spacescrapers lit up like suns, so bright they seemed to render the stars above invisible, something which Rabé had never thought possible anywhere in the galaxy. The seemingly infinite sea before them, even the waters of which seemed too extravagant to be natural, carried luxury yachts and the most exotic-looking sea speeders. Casinos littered the city, separated by racetracks and surrounded by restaurants, cabarets and luxury hotels of all sorts. Cantonica easily overwhelmed her acute senses.

It was exotic, this city, in the heart of which stood the Crescent Royale Casino in which she currently stood. What was even stranger was the fact that, somehow, all of it felt so... wrong. She could sense strange... shadows, creeping through the crevices of the planet like a gigantic slitherette of darkness, which made no sense to her, considering this must've been the brightest spot in the whole wide galaxy. Granted, this was quite literally the third planet she had ever visited ever since she had been awoken from her birth slumber, and even she could tell the first two weren't much of a sight to behold, so she couldn't be sure if it was. But she doubted any place could have more lights than this city,

"What's on your mind?" she heard deep, serene voice interrupt her thoughts, and turned her head aside to glance back at the elder man on her right. Nuur Solana, the venerable Master Jedi, whose name she had taken as her own, for he had been the only family she had ever known.

She smiled up at him, tightly but kindly. The dirty blonde man, hair interspersed with patches of gray, the same shade as his sideburns, stood a good seven inches taller than her, arms crossed over his chest with a single hand resting on his bearded chin. He stared down at her with eyes the colour of the Sea of Cantonica. Gone were the unremarkable brown and tan Jedi robes that he could make to seem somehow fashionable despite their intentional blandness. Instead, the elder man was dressed like a smuggler; a light shirt underneath a black vest and black cargo pants, over which he wore a brown, Corellian-cut trench coat with a large everted collar spanning his entire chest and reaching down to his knees. His belt contained a blaster holster (which in fact carried his lightsaber instead of his blaster), and knee-length boots covered his feet. Her father looked like a bounty hunter from the Western Reaches.

"It just feels a bit..." she shook her head, trailing off.

"Disturbing?" he chuckled. "Vestiges of the Dark Side. None of these people are honest citizens, most of them are quite depraved, and this place has been their playground for centuries. The spiritual residue of their misdeeds soils the place. Bear with it, we must focus on the task to which we have been assigned."

Nuur placed a hand on Rabé's shoulder and squeezed comfortingly. This had been the first time he had seen the girl dressed up - no, this was the first time she had dressed up, and she looked stunning, in a two-piece black dress of the finest Nubian silk, the full-sleeved top revealing her mid-riff and back, and the bottom piece a gown falling onto the ground below with a split in the middle on each side to reveal her legs and allow for easy movement. Instead of her usual sidebuns, her chocolate brown her were elaborately braided today, held back by a golden headpiece. The extremely expensive dress had been paid for by the Galactic Alliance's government, and she had no intention of returning it.

"Right," Rabé murmured. "The mission..."

This was her first mission as a Padawan apprentice to Master Solana; they were acting as undercover Jedi escorts to a group of Alliance operatives. They were supposed to get close to Elom Dusk, a corporate executive considered to be perhaps the richest Muun in the galaxy. His influence spanned Imperial-Alliance borders, and the Galactic Alliance Intelligence Service had received nuggets of information about his Imperial leanings and the participation of his network in cross-border operations as part of an anticipated Imperial incursion into Alliance territory. Still aching from the loss of Rhen Var to the Sith, the GAIS wasn't about to take any chances with the Empire. The Solanas and the GA operatives were supposed to get as close as possible to Elom Dusk himself, attain any information possible about the operations through any means necessary, and, if even remotely possible, bring the man in for questioning.

Just recalling the mission parameters sent an anxious shiver up her spine. She quickly sipped on her glass of cab sauv, her hazel eyes finding Dusk surrounded by a chortling crowd of high society - Duros, Dugs, Rodians, more Muuns and Humanoids, all clearly from around the Core by simply the way they carried themselves - at a gambling table in the middle of the vast hall.

"Worry not, young one," her master said. "Consider this your first step into a larger world. Now, I see my contact," he nodded towards a brown-haired man with an eyepatch in the far corner, sitting on a table opposite a female Togruta in an elegant blue dress. Her Master took off in their direction.

"Remember. Stay in the moment," his parting advice as he disappeared into the crowd.

Sighing, Rabé calmed her nerves before turning her attention back to Elom Dusk. 'I have a bad feeling about this,' she thought, stilling her nerves as she began to slink over to the Muun in question.

This is a stupid idea.

Prazutis said into a communicator as his temporary partner, a female imperial officer who, rather than any imperial garments, wore a black dress that hung low near her ankles, with a belt around her waist that secretly held the dress to her, which could be removed and leaving the woman in a pair of shorts that sat just above her knees, that wouldn’t be visible unless she removed the belt itself.

“Well, there’s no good way to do this otherwise. Just stay still unless you’re needed and we’ll be fine,” she said, walking across the floor towards the corporate lord Dusk, two servant-dressed men pushing a magnetized crate behind her, the metal of the box engraved with different designs, each of them exquisitely crafted.

“Mr. Dusk!” The woman called, approaching with the crate following.

A dark aura surrounded the box, enough that any force user could notice such a presence, as if the box held a terrible evil. However, the box sat behind the woman, seemingly harmless for the moment.

A sail barge flew overhead, slowing near the side of the building, a couple floors above the group, stopping for only a second before it continued its flight, around the beaches and away from the casino.

A long arm, slender and with the wiry strength of durasteel cables, slipped into the crook of her elbow and settled into a familiar escorting position. A simply cut but clearly expensive suit draped over the man's form, fitting smoothly over a fine shirt of shimmersilk that stood out even more for being framed so.

"Pleasure to meet you," Zasabi said in a warm voice. "I'm your date for the evening. I understand you're new to all this, but I hope you've had a chance to peruse your documents. Just stick to your character and I'll handle the rest."

He gave a soft grin, one that a distant viewer might assume some measure of intimacy from, but it couldn't be further from the truth. As far as he knew, the girl was only part of the mission because her master was part of it. Suitably, GA Intelligence had given her the simple role of the younger partner of an older businessman. It simultaneously drew attention while dismissing serious perusal, allowing her a degree of freedom the other agents wouldn't enjoy.

As for him, Zasabi was for once not playing a part; at least, on paper. He had actually come as himself, the former CEO of a wealthy mining operation who had previously been a stakeholder in the Corporate Sector Authority of sufficient merit that he had inherited command of it's defense fleets during the Yuzzhan Vong crisis. As someone who wasn't yet identified as being affiliated with the GA, this made his job incredibly easy. All he had to do was gamble in the same circles as Elom Dusk.

Gamble...and lose. Repeatedly. Dramatically. Winning just enough to maintain plausibility before losing big. All while maintaining his winning smile and charm.

Predators like Dusk could smell a mark from a system away. He wouldn't have to work at getting close like the other agents present- The Muun would make his way to him.

"So," he began, his voice suddenly gaining in color and reflecting an indulgent pleasure his face began to show. "What shall we play first, darling? I think it's a bit early for sabacc, but tregald might be light enough for decent entertainment."

“Why are we hear again?” A Weequay woman muttered as she sat in the back of an unassuming hovervan.

A rippling of fur from the Bothan sitting with her was enough to show his frustration. “Because Alliance intelligence brought Jedi into their schemes and thus we need to be here to make sure said Jedi are assisted if necessary.” Lunter responded, his voice clearly running out of patience.

The two bickered a bit more as Varn sat quietly and watched the cameras. They had several seeker probes casing the streets and one or two inside the structure to give them eyes to further assist the operation. MC, the Rangers espionage droid companion was in the casino as well posing as just another translator or serving droid. Varn himself was wearing his old but freshly polished bounty hunter gear just in case he needed to make a public appearance as Llanthu a mercenary leader.

“Blue Varactyl has made contact with Little Tauntaun on the inside,” Varn’s gravelly voice spoke, breaking the two from their arguments.

Lunter turned his attention back to the view screens. “Affirmative, Head Dewback has broken off from the Tauntaun as planned and the Varactyl has replaced them at the their side.” The Bothan’s eyes darted from screen to screen. “Things so far seem to be moving as planned.”

“MC, are you seeing anything we aren’t?” The Ranger Captain spoke into the comm, not fully relying on the eyes they currently had.

“The ‘client’ is acting as expected,” the mechanical voice replied. “Nothing out of the usual.” There was a brief pause before it continued. “Unidentified individual is approaching the ‘client’ with a large crate. Contents unknown.”

“Is he making some sort of deal in broad daylight,” the Weequay woman muttered.

“We can’t be sure, last we checked he was going to just be spending the night gambling and flaunting his fortunes,” Lunter replied, his fur rippling with suspicion. “MC do your best to get me a facial image of the woman, I want to know everyone our ‘client’ is meeting with tonight.”

Two clicks were the only response acknowledging the request.

Kita Ikari had unwillingly tagged along with her cousin Kress to the brightly lite casino. She watched as other people passed by the two young sith, laughter filling the room as people gathered around tables and machines in an attempt to hit a jackpot. The crow had talked her into going out to relax and party, much to her dismay. The young woman from Tibrin had never been a party girl, but would have rather been in the comfort of her bedroom cuddled with her pet nexu. Either that or honing her skills within the force. But that was the very reason Kress had pushed her out of her comfort zone. The black crow had figured she needed to get her mind out of the books, and instead out in the world to mingle with others.

Having ditched her regular silver clothing, Kita wore a form-fitted dark red gown that widened flowing to her knees and matching open toed heels. The sleeves slid off the shoulders and dipped showing her cleavage just enough to attract any male passing by. Her usual long blonde hair was tied up in a ponytail, and then bunched into a ton of curls falling down her bare back. "I don't know why you insist I come with you. We could be doing other things." She said grumpily.

The one good thing about being at this particular casino was that she had less of a chance of being hunted down by bounty hunters since this place was already crawling with criminals of different occupations. However she still remained prepared for any future occurrence of a scuffle. She kept her saber tucked in a hilt tied to her thigh under the dress, along with her dagger from the now in hiding war-bringer Warvanus. Not to mention a few smoke bombs.

"I'll TRY to have a good time, but don't get your hopes up."

Grabbing her drink sitting nearby, Silvanius took a large sip while scanning the room. She sensed something lingering in the area. Not sure where it was coming from in the crowds of people, the young blonde Sith decided just to try and stay on alert as she spent time with Kressera. "Where is Sa'ato?"
