Re: Heir to the Empire
It was a minor victory in the overall picture but an important one given the potential amicable end to the most important of the short rule for House Karn. It was a day of strange coincidence dredged in long dead bonds. Idaan left willingly to overt a very emotional reunion, yet her son Zell accompanied having been privy to the holotransmission that set everything in motion. While Alissa had left to attend class at the wholly renovated Raskta Academy, Silas’s whereabouts where currently unknown even by his daily attendants.
The Sith Lord was anything but unaware of the foreign presence within Echani space. Long dead connections sparked as an almost now unfamiliar presence lit within his consciousness. It had been cycles since the pair had dwelt within even the same system let alone the remarkably small distance than now separated them. The bond that had been severed over a decade ago called to the ruler of both Thyrsus and Eshan. Embers now gleamed that had been buried under cycles of ash. Standing upon the cliff that overlooked the Silver Sea, Silas closed his eyes in quiet contemplation, “Argus.”
Idaan for her part did not depart from the palatial grounds without escort. A platoon of the finest palace guards accompanied the royal family within a well armored transport. The ship itself was guided to the Golan II station by a full squadron of Eshan’s best pilots. The procession was swift and efficient in fulfilling its task and delivering the royals unscathed to the primary command center of the orbiting battle station. It was her that Idaan pinged her location to an already inbound imperial craft. ‘Remarkable timing as always commander, or should I say admiral now,’ Idaan mused.
Zell looked to his mother and then out into the void sensing the swelling anxiety surrounding the meeting. Guards and security patrols frantically dashed from choke point to choke point encircling the formal acre of flat terrain that encompassed the eastern approach to the command center. As the westward approach was a series of corridors that splintered out to the various important venues for the station and no proper footing existed north or south from the command’s entrance it was apparent just how difficult the acquisition of the Golan station had been the last time imperial ships graced Eshan’s skies. As the grand Lambda class T-4a shuttle made its final descent Idaan motioned for the palatial guard to receive their guests.
In all the pomp and circumstance that could be expected of the famed Grand Admiral, Argus made his entrance and final approach to the royal family. With so many armed personnel on both sides and the pitched hostilities that brought the tension was shattered by none other than the inexplicable Idaan Null. “Argus,” Idaan called out as she extended not just a handshake but a comforting embrace to the most formal of officers. Argus, no doubt in shock, was greeted as an old friend making their long overdue visit. Perhaps more perplexing than Idaan’s mannerisms was the almost choking light granted what were likely long dead supernatural senses.
In his long years of service the grand admiral had no doubt encountered the heretics known as Jedi and on one occasion even allied with one of the more famed of their order. However, it was almost an assurance Argus was unprepared to be bombarded by so many questions following such a simple gesture. Placing distance between herself and Argus, Idaan practically capitalized on the confusion by finally addressing the imperial dignitary. “While I am pleased to see you again and if any representative of such a venture by the Galactic Empire is heralded by one with such measured military bearing I must ask Master Kraiov; why have you come?”

Re: Heir to the Empire
Disarmed, that was the word for it. The tension had been thick though the remarkable presence of Idaan had blunted the knife’s edge; Argus received her embrace. It was as if a mountain of stress and worry were set away from his shoulders in that moment. So much concern over this issue was given, yet Idaan was able to quiet the anxiety and bring forth reason to an otherwise stern and distasteful moment. He released her and held to her elbows as he looked into her genuine smile, yes, it was good to see a friend again.
It was humorous that the two had nearly been rivals towards the beginning of Argus’ career. A matter of one-upmanship in battle, feats of daring to impossible rescues, the two had quite the past and a bond forged in the fires of it all. That bond cared little for cycles spent apart or at odds. It only cared for the truth and when Argus finally gave her leave he could see it as his eyes were shocked to trail away and see the look of Silas Karn stolen by the eyes of a youth. A chill ran down his spine at the look of the boy and he found no words to address his host. He didn’t need her confirmation to know who this was short of a name.
He gave the boy his regards with an extended hand though he did not deliver rank and title. “Argus Kraiov, at your service.” That was meant to show more than what could appropriately be said at this time.
They continued the meeting with a sense of calm, Idaan directly maneuvering the conversation to the most important of matters and Argus was non-disappointed with the Ladies’ ability to settle the tension and direct the meeting in one swell-swoop. She was fit for her duties as the Queen of Eshan. Argus often pondered how the Matriarchal society reacted to a King, though it mattered little as Idaan would be perfectly suited to quell any animosity or discourage enmity on Silas’ part. This was a well structured organization, however, it was also one that Argus did not want to learn too much about.
The more Argus knew about Eshan, the more he’d have to either add into a report to the Council of Moffs or rather lie about. Neither was a thing he wanted. The less he knew and the more ignorant he was to the facts meant he could look those he answered to in the eye and tell them the truth. The Imperial Banner still flew over Eshan. Be it in name only, this was enough to keep the hounds at bay and Argus’ boots off Eshan’s soil. That was a point that he took great stock in… he only hoped that Silas could see that, wherever he was.
“I have come, my lady, for the concern of the Galactic Empire’s future. I am to believe and,” he nodded respectfully towards Zell, “confirm, that the House of Karn has only grown in the recent times. We needn’t get into the darker past.” He referred to Krynn Karn and he was sure Idaan knew to what he spoke. “But to approach the problem of the future we must address the consequences of it.” Likely, Idaan knew at least slightly where this was going, perhaps even the implications that the Empire wanted Silas or even herself. The actual fact of the matter though was something that was likely far more steep for her. Once they arrived at a place where they could speak alone, though of course within the confines of their security, he opened up to her in confidence alongside Zell.
He continued, “The Karn House sat upon the Throne and held the Regency firmly in hand. Of that the Empire as a whole has no doubt. Though after the Belsavis prison riot cycles ago, the Empress officially returned to the Empire. Seeing as she was kidnapped on behalf of the Sith and Jedi fanatics, it was easy to bury the situation in the need to secure the Empress’ life. No one questioned it and those that did were dismissed as conspiracy theorists. Clara Sond managed for many cycles to keep the Moffs and other political heads in line. But as with anything, the truth always manages to find its way out.”
“As you likely know, Krynn didn’t return to the Empire and instead she fled into Sith Space from where she would never return. In fact she died on Xilkarth at Darth Tormentous’ hands.” His tone took a more serious note at this point, the events during the Battle of Xilkarth were strong memories even still. “At that point we could no longer in good conscience hide the truth from the people and we began trying to find a resolution. The lie has continued for as long as it can hold. Reckoning has come. Moffs have begun to openly speak out and their allies grow by the day. Director Sond has asked for permission to black bag the naysayers… I’ve denied her barring any extreme case. Such is not a solution and will only quiet the loudest mouths for so long before they are made into martyrs.”
He looked upon her with worry, it was sincere and when he spoke he recalled well the cycle of 25 ABY, the year of the five Empires. He’d fought in those campaigns. Imperial versus Imperial. They were memories he couldn’t ever forget and dreaded for them to return in reality. “We are facing civil war.” Letting the words sink in, he didn’t need to note that the Empire breaking apart into a civil war to claim the Imperial Throne was cast Eshan in a war that meant less to it than the truth allowed. “Even now the Moffs court Generals and Admirals to act as Warlords for a coming coup. Without someone filling the seat of the Throne, the Galactic Empire cannot remain and for that we have come here to Eshan… to you and Silas both.”
Obviously if she’d been anticipating the coming words, she was only half right though the context was deadly accurate. “The only sustaining principle that the people know, that the Council of Moffs obey and that the Imperial Military respects; is the House of Karn. The literal and tangible Dynasty of the Karns.”

Re: Heir to the Empire
What does one say to a living legend? To a man so famous that even the lowliest inhabitant of the largest expanse of the galaxy knew his name. Zell was in complete awe despite the stern front he struggled to maintain. Argus had been the focal point of many discussions and stories within the Karn household. Had it simply been the ever increasingly exaggerated retelling's of the trio’s escapades over a decade ago both Zell and Alissa could have easily dismissed such boastful tales.
However, hardly a night went by that the Galactic News Network did not foretell the epic clashes of the imperial navy. Amidst the propaganda was a single name that began to repeat with ever increasing frequency; Argus Kraiov. The fleet commander that arose to such prominence that he now held the rank of Grand Admiral. For all the grandeur of the moment the man elected to greet the young boy and further he did so without adding his prestigious title. Zell was floored, fighting against his elation and excitement the young noble forced the most stoic appearance he could manage. “It’s a pleasure admiral,” Zell finally managed before the focus of Argus’s visit swiftly pivoted. With Argus leaving the meeting on monumental statement Idaan’s eyes visibly widened.
‘Silas, as he is now…would never return to the throne. As much as I might consider doing so for the sake of our family…” Looking to Argus’s face the battle hardened officer lowered his gaze ever so slightly. ‘It can’t be, he means to, no surely Argus wouldn’t, but civil war?’ Idaan’s countenance darkened but she did not falter. “There can only be a single outcome that you seek. I’m afraid I cannot conceal your intents from Silas. He must agree to such an accord.” Looking to Zell, Idaan felt her motherly instincts well up in protective aggression. Returning to meet Argus’s eyes, “Zell is too young for any such appointment however, and will not be cleaved from my side this day.” No anger or increase in volume escaped Idaan’s lips as her words were meant more as a statement.
Raising her left hand to her com-link Idaan set into motion the fulfillment of a destiny ten years in the making. “My Lord, I am hesitant to do so but the current turn of events demands I request your presence.” Her eyes shifting swiftly back and forth Idaan turned from Argus and lowered her voice. “Si, this is important it involves our family.” Silence fell on the group as they awaited the reply. Moments passed agonizingly slowly before an open general communications line to the station sounded Silas’s response. “Master Kraiov, please prepare for my arrival, ETA fifteen minutes.”
It was a measured response from no doubt an emotional man. A high speed landspeeder led Silas away from his meditations and to the primary docking bays for the palace district. The ten minute journey back from his sojourn spent in quiet contemplation before Silas jettisoned the craft and made for his own personal fighter; a custom TIE Defender purchased of his own funds and painted a matte black to match the void of space. Five minutes elapsed quickly and the venture out to the Golan II station went without incident. Indeed the Lord of Eshan had maintained a sense of efficiency long honed during his days under the banner of the empire he now loathed. As if the tremendous presence within the Force wasn’t unnerving enough for those sensitive enough to detect its influence, A shrill anthem preceding Silas’s arrival as was customary in notifying the rank and file of such a dignitary.
Idaan had willfully declined such ornate proceedings but Silas in so many ways her antithesis. While the matriarch had worn a white gown over her heirloom armor and emanated all the peaceful tranquility of a Jedi, Silas still bore the charred armor gifted to him by his father cloaked now with a gold trimmed silver trench coat that bore the insignia of the Thyrsian Alliance on its front as well as a new emblem formerly unknown to Argus which represented the unification of all Echani emblazoned across his back. Very distinctly unsettling to those who had been aware of Silas’s involvement with the Sith was the lack of any trace of taint marring his immaculately fair complexion. Arriving with yet another detachment from the palace guard Silas swiftly dismissed them as he neared the likely stunned trio. Silas bowed his head slightly in acknowledgement of Argus before turning his intense gaze upon his bride.
“What matter is so dire that I am required in person? It is obvious this is not an attempt to seize Eshan, what other scheme could be so severe?” Idaan faced Silas and placed her hand upon his left shoulder. “He has come to fill the seat left empty by your half-sister, left empty since the end of your regency.” Silas then turned and confronted his former brother in arms. With a gaze as icy as the grave and his eyebrows lowered in focus upon the grand admiral Silas granted a glimpse into the duality of his nature. “I hold no ill will or misgivings toward you. Long have I delved into the darkest reaches of the former director’s entanglement with my bloodline and never once were you even tangentially involved. I hate everything to do with Morven, the former ISB, and the farce that was the spineless emperor of those days. I doubt heavily your intentions are to restore me to regency or anoint Idaan in that science experiment’s stead.”
Silas paused a moment before looking to Zell and finally returning his sights on Argus. “I have hunted down and decimated virtually all of what once was the ISB of old. Yet, even as I drenched myself in their blood it did nothing to restore my past.” Even as Silas spoke those attuned to the realm beyond the mundane would be astounded to the interaction between the Lord and his Lady. While there certainly was a tremendous darkness within Silas, simply by being in close proximity with Idaan its presence was all but completely muted. If any adept had ever possessed such an anchor it was unknown to any now in the current age. Of course such a profound relationship held dark implications should Silas’s light ever leave him. “I might be willing to hear you out if you held any capability of granting assurances that in granting you what you seek the empire’s reach would never again entangle the Echani.” Both Silas and Idaan had operated under sound assumptions but it was now Argus’s turn unveil the true subject of his desire and plead his case for an accord.

Re: Heir to the Empire
Zell was his name. Argus looked upon the youth with as much regard as his did intrigue. This was the first born son and heir to Eshan. Despite the royal attire of the son, Argus could spot the definition in the boy’s arms and legs as well as he could tell from the boy’s stance that he’d seen some action. Live fire was highly unlikely for a youth such as he, though Argus had little doubt that Silas had been training the boy in the rigors of warfare, specifically in the Echani arts of the duelist. He was curious if he’d also been teaching Zell in the manner of the arts of war, such as grand theatres of combat; from zones containing their Palace to entire continent spanning affairs.
Nodding his head respectfully he could only agree with the Lady of Eshan, “I wouldn’t ask that of Silas, his past memories of the Empire were traumatic. He is right in remaining away from the Empire’s reach.” He could read Idaan’s facial expressions, her ageless features were stern yet motherly, she shielded Zell quickly and Argus didn’t give it another thought. “Zell, by all means must remain here with his family. I would not dare to gain the ire of a Null.”
Another nodding confirmation, “Of course, this is a decision that you must both endure for it affects more than just you. In truth it affects far more than I can honestly describe.” For the next fifteen minutes they caught up on the missing cycles of their lives; mostly the conversation remained on the status of Eshan and the recovery period it had gone through after the bloody Unification War. When appropriate, Argus addressed Zell, correcting the youth to speak to him as Argus and not Admiral Kraiov. Once the conversation hit its peak, the Imperial was under the impression that Zell Karn was extremely well spoken for one of his age and very well educated. Without a doubt Argus decided that the day Silas was to step down and Zell was to reign, it would be a day that Eshan rejoiced. For if Silas was able to do the things he’d done without any education or direction at all, Zell was going to soar.
It would have been hard to miss the arrival of Eshan’s King. He’d come so far from those long days as a mercenary. It was Argus’ first thoughts as the anthem played and he rose respectfully to greet the Noble Echani Lord. It had been more than fifteen cycles ago that the Imperial Officer had discovered Silas Karn on a far flung world, where instead of a sellsword or hired gun, he saw within Karn the potential to forge a kingdom. Now, here he was, a man without peer in his own house and his own society. Recalling those humble beginnings where they both scrapped the bottom of whatever barrel they could find to this very moment in time… It was refreshing to see that sometimes the Galaxy did deliver just results amid the endless campaigns, tragedies and wars.
Entering as a conquering hero, Silas Karn was a brilliant figure to behold and Argus nearly cracked a smile to see that his old friend hadn’t aged a bit, then he remembered that the Echani people tended to live rather long life spans and Silas was infact extremely young for what he’d already accomplished. Not once did Argus entertain the notion that Silas owed him anything or ever had. They had fought shoulder to shoulder together on dozens of worlds and across the stars. Lives that precious few would ever strive to become touched by their shadows.
Silas didn’t approach and shake Argus’ hand as they once did long ago, part of Argus didn’t expect it; the tensions were still there and he felt foolish for teasing the thought of a happy reunion. He also had to remind himself that kings did not consort with lesser men and Silas Karn was that, a monarch, royalty, where Argus was not even a diplomatic entity or a delegate. No, Argus Kraiov had held his role within the Imperial Military his entire career and despite countless offers for him to pursue another professional field, he’d declined every time. He was not the type to kiss babies and dine with planetary governors, he belonged in the field or on the deck of a Star Destroyer. Indeed to that point, he was but a military officer and while the status of his position afforded him the presence of a king, he held no such notion that this address was not at the pleasure of the House of Karn.
His words were without hesitation and well measured. Even though he’d destroyed the demons of his past, Argus could tell that they still haunted him, whether Silas would admit that or not… Argus decided that no, he wouldn’t. But this was not a moment of intervention, this was a moment of change. He needed to be truthful here, any detail left out, unintentionally or otherwise, could spell doom for this mission. Argus wasn’t here to deceive Silas anyhow, but that he was certainly not an Imperial Regent anymore forced Argus to mentally combat his instincts to inform someone without clearance to be privy of very sensitive matters.
The internal debate lasted seconds before Argus’ resolve took command, and he delivered unto the Karns the information he held. “This coming cycle, she would have been twenty-two.” He didn’t have to get specific, they’d know who she was. “It will have been a full cycle since she’d have come of age to rule from the throne properly. In all this time the Council of Moffs and many among the Admiralty and even a countless measure of the Imperial Citizenry, have not seen her. Before, it was easily concealed through the guise of security; over two assassinations attempts and even a literal kidnapping, it’d happen again. No one questioned that her many public appearances would have only meant more danger. Officially she’s been under protective custody. But now, she’s expected to surface.”
Already Silas could undoubtedly see where this was going. “Her lack of presence, now, has been nothing but a storm of issues. Many have begun to speak seditiously. While we have the capacity to silence these loud voices, it wouldn’t solve the legitimate problems we face; the throne is empty and without a steady hand to guide the Empire, we face a dire future.”
“The Council of Moffs have ruled in her stead. They’ve kept things running, though the Empire has suffered greatly from stagnation and bureaucracy. An Empire cannot be, without an Emperor. Levels of corruption are out of control, the political arm grows in power every day and everyone more restless. Director Sond has even confirmed to me that some of the Moffs have been courting high ranking Imperial Officers. We are on the brink of self annihilation.” Argus’ face fell from his typical confident stance to a more melancholy, the service he’d given was being threatened. Everything he’d fought for and the lives of those he’d left behind were all beginning to surface. Surely even Silas would feel this weight as he too sacrificed so much to sustain the Empire back then.
Recovering his wits, he straightened up and continued. Suspecting that Silas would suggest that Argus make the move and seat himself, Argus preempted that line of thought. “I cannot rule, I’ve not the means for it or the aptitude. I’m a soldier, and the Empire needs a ruler. Furthermore, I will admit that this is my final mission. Once I’ve secured the Empire’s future, I’m going back to Corulag. I’ve not been home for over two decades.” He wasn’t about to change the subject though and he righted his course.
“If I do not act and fill that seat, the Empire will splinter into a power grabbing war. It could be swift, it could span many cycles. But regardless of the outcome, if the Empire falls into that struggle then Eshan will have no friends. Whoever takes the throne will eventually notice how Eshan hasn’t been represented in the Council of Moffs, hasn’t paid full taxation, hasn’t participated in drafts…” the list went on but there was no need to make the setting hostile, “…when they do find out, you know as well as I that they will come.” He hesitated before adding, “And we also know that there is nothing either of us can do if they did. Eshan would burn again and this time an Imperial Governor seated. I do not want that. Eshan has been a place we’ve both fought to give peace to, the last thing I want is another conflict.”
“That is just Eshan, what would ensue in the meantime? What size of coup are we looking at? How many lives will be lost in the process? I’ve no answers to these but only the conviction in my heart that they are on the horizon. If we don’t stop them, the Empire will be the one to burn.”
He felt bad, that this was akin to ransom, but this was the truth as he saw it. “The Karns were a Dynasty in the beginning throes; I know there is an heir among you.” He became very sincere now, “Grant us an Heir to the Empire. Fill the throne. And you needn’t speak to me over concerns of your home again, rather you’d speak to the Empress.” No doubt Silas could also see this too.
Re: Heir to the Empire
She had a face of shock under her helm when she heard Argus's suggestion, it shifted from shock to anger at the notion of Silas ruling. 'I'd never be allowed to stay when he found out.' She thought. Everything she had attempted work towards would be lost, but then the suggestion shifted, to his daughter instead. 'Great another child.' She thought. While Kota didn't agree, she wouldn't question Argus, not in front of Silas anyway.
"Billions will die with a civil war and while the Empire fights itself enemies will destoy it. No one will be safe if such a thing would happen, not even the Eshan." She chimed in to support Argus's claim. She herself had seen it, thousand of fires would break out and not even she could stop them. A decision had to be made, whether or not the Galaxy would burn.

Re: Heir to the Empire
Her presence concealed from Silas, the very individual that might prevent Alissa from going down the same path as the empire's scientific abomination was completely ignored. All for the best as even as things stood Silas’s hatred stirred and sparks emanated from his fingertips. The unmitigated gull of his own ‘brother’ to show up after years of silence and propose the loss of the first born of Silas’s house to the imperial government was almost more than his regal demeanor could stand. Yet, in equal measure Idaan erased all presence of the Force escaping Silas’s flesh. Her firm hand still touching Silas’s shoulder allowed her the connection needed to halt such an emotional response.
Robbed from his vengeance tears began to well up within Silas’s left eye. As the first driblet ran its course down Silas’s face he waved Idaan off. Looking at this famed imperial officer Silas reached out and grabbed hold of Argus’s chest just below his neck. In response the soldiers that arrived with the Grand Admiral readied their weapons and trained them on Silas, prompting a similar response by the palace guards that had remained. “Arrogant as always I see. You truly believe the empire could truly lay siege to this system without immense repercussions? I haven’t been idle in my absence and even now the force you’ve arrived with could be swept aside.”
Silas vented in frustration but swiftly calmed down though maintaining his grip even as he allowed distance between them. Looking Argus dead in the eyes Silas then grasped the famed admiral’s left forearm with his right. “You were once my greatest ally and friend, a brother not in blood but bond. I have not forgotten nor have I ever held you responsible for the degradation of my heritage.” Finally, Silas relinquished his grip of Argus’s chest and blunted away the tears from his face. “Bravado will serve neither of us well this day. If the empire has truly continued to erode over the course of these last ten cycles and a true warrior such as yourself to retire from the bloodshed even for just a time then I must agree with you.
The throne must be filled and in such a manner as to preserve the empire in so much as the order in enforces within its borders.” Letting go of Argus’s forearm Silas turned from him and looked to face Idaan. “I’m sure you will have no talk of Zell fulfilling some role beyond our people. What then are your thoughts of Alissa reclaiming my family name within the Galactic Empire?” Idaan did not retort immediately or shout down the concept. Instead the years of leadership over increasingly greater matters shown through her face in quiet strength. “Even if your contacts were to engage the empire here and win it would be altogether far too costly, especially with their brand of preferred combat.” Idaan shot Silas a disapproving look.
“So to avoid that it makes sense on a cold logical level, to grant a single person to this host to satisfy their demands and see them depart from here, though I am loathe to relinquish my own daughter.” Idaan paused a moment before adding, “I would be more comfortable if Argus would delay his plans to return home and instead sought the seat of Regency until she came of age. If he could grant us that I could agree with this.” Silas narrowed his field of vision upon the ageless beauty before turning back to face Argus. “You seek neither a throne nor seat of government and that is an admirable quality in a man, let alone a leader.
However, I cannot simply give you Alissa lest you at least arrive at an accord on two potential misgivings.” Silas exhaled slowly and breathed in deeply to allow a moment before attempting to make his case. “First, as you are no doubt aware at least on some level my bloodline carries with it sensitivity to the supernatural. Alissa has already expressed interest to whit I have adamantly denied her. You know exactly how ‘she’ fell into such depravity as to endanger not only ‘her’ life but that of who served ‘her’ as well. Second, I would ask that you acquiesce to Idaan’s request and take the seat of Regency until Alissa comes of age. With your guidance and military bearing we can be assured of her safety and sound mind.” Silas had finished making his requests when he added, “After all, should this succeed you will not only have an Empress but one who will hold the throne for centuries yet to be seen.”

As soon as Silas grabbed Argus's neck, she grabbed the hilts on her side. She waited for a simple motion from Argus or his death and she wouldn't hesitate. Silas would die before he left the room, however Argus was dropped before anything happened. Kota wished she had the force, she would have prevented it. However no harm had befallen him, so she removed her hands from her hilts.
"Her talents are why I am here. I will ensure that she will be safe with guidance. It will be firm, but fair. I will do all within my ability to ensure she is not corrupted." She said. It was the truth, that was her purpose here other than Argus's safety. Silas was pushing it when it came to Argus's life. The grand inquisitor would do her task and ensure the future of the stability of the Empire. Though as herself, she wanted to punch Silas at least for choaking Argus. She stood still however, it would not be in good form for her to do so.

Re: Heir to the Empire
Vibrant sapphire hued eyes shot back at the interloper. "What right do you have to speak? Twice now you have offered unsolicited opinions." Silas then looked back to Argus, "Have the years lessened your military decorum? To allow your subordinates to speak on matters far beyond their rank. Such prattling seems far beneath the man you were, the man your renown claims you still are." Silas was furious with the insinuation of actually training Alissa in the Force and placing her own the throne.
Unchecked authority with potentially limitless and increasingly predominant supernatural power, that was a recipe for the last empress's fall. Silas had already relinquished Argus by the time he snapped at Kota. Though her threat of physical intervention matched the imperial soldiers that accompanied her, it was her willful interruption of proceedings that threatened the pact that had been but a sentence away from being sealed. Silas calmed his self once more and spoke in the powerful tone of an autocrat.
"As I stated before Master Kraiov, we cannot in good conscious relinquish our own blood and heir to you with the foreknowledge that your intent is to indoctrinate her in the same heretical teachings that were for so many long years illegal throughout the whole of the empire. I am sure you can see the very real danger of allowing a single individual to attain both nigh unlimited personal and political power at the same time." Silas paused a moment before drawing closer to Argus. "I believe you have already made such a choice and in doing so turned away from either outcome. Please, allow my daughter the same courtesy." Silas now placed his faith in his now long bereft friend. Silas knew from Argus's own personal account that the officer had a decade ago turned from his own potential within the supernatural realm. A decade ago, the famed officer had almost lost his life trusting in the same presence that to the very day still plagued Silas.

Re: Heir to the Empire
Silas snapped and Argus did not budge so much as a muscle nor did his unflinching gaze turn aside, he stared down the wrath of the Echani Lord before him and never once did the edge of his military bearing break. He endured; professional, courteous yet stern. It would take more than a raging Echani to unnerve Argus Kraiov. Even taking into account Silas’ own magnificent aptitude within the Force and further yet, his own martial prowess alone. Argus stood an oak before the wind of a flurry and even through the personal attack, he refused to partake in any exchange that would diminish this event; perhaps he was taking a card out of Idaan’s own playbook… but more than likely his stoic demeanor withstood the test of time and so he placed the mission first before his own personal feelings, that included his honor as it took the brunt of Silas’ verbal reprimand.
Only once the High King of Eshan was concluded in his tirade did Argus speak, and he did so without a hint of emotion to his words save for an informative taste. He turned slightly to motion to the red armored individual behind him. “My Lord, this may I introduce the Grand Inquisitor; of the subjects of the Empire the Grand Inquisitor is chief among our experts in the forbidden lore of the Force. She is charged with the examination of all fields within the Adept’s nature and knowing your infamous aptitude within the Force; it would have been foolish not to bring someone experienced with its knowledge to guide me in times of need. If you took offense at her outburst, that was not its intention but rather to remove your concern.” Indeed, with the lack of knowledgeable Adepts within the Empire, only the Grand Inquisitor could be known to deal with such matters.
“That said, I could not agree more; the Empress’ will be done, though…” he gave paused, closed his eyes as he briefly contemplated and weighed his concerns, within seconds yet before making the pause uncomfortable Argus had come to his conclusion. Service before himself. “…as the Lord Regent of the Empire, until her highness becomes of age to concern for her own decision, I shall also accept her guardianship and it is my word that while she will most certainly be educated and informed, the schooling in the arcane will be far from any of her studies.” This time Argus took in Silas’ gaze and matched it, “Your daughter will not become her.”
It was true, Argus had once touched the Force and his potential had been vast. Perhaps on a grand scale as it were. Though he’d come to know the temptations of the Force and how easily it could lead him astray to emphasize his already generous arrogance gifted to him by a life as a proven Imperial Soldier. It nearly killed him and indeed left him in a coma so severe were his wounds. That day he swore the mysteries of the ether away and never regarded them again. However, his studies had given him foresight in the combating of touched individuals and more than once this knowledge alone had given him quite enough edge to seek victory where there otherwise was none. But he understood Silas’ concerns and even if Silas hadn’t made these demands, it was likely that Argus would have made the call himself.
Tactically, he reverted to a more pleasant subject. “I accept and will take the liberty to inform the Council of Moffs that the Empress will make an appearance. I, as Lord Regent will ensure that the Council is within full compliance and that the acceptance of the Empress is mandated on penalty of death and furthermore those worlds that deny her rule shall be made examples of with swift retribution. This, all to make absolute sure that every knee is bent to her throne and that we may never see a civil war.”
He lifted his hand towards Silas. Surely it was odd for royalty to touch, even so much as shake hands with a commoner, though Argus knew not another way to secure this pact. “Please, we will return at her highness’ pleasure. A month’s time to get her affairs in order and set family concerns appropriately. At such time I will return and escort the Empress to Bastion.” He of course did not expect to steal away the youthful Empress from her family the day of; in fact she wasn’t even currently present to this meeting and her fate had been dealt. It would be a personal event indeed to inform her of the situation and the grave undertaking she was about to behold. Such gravitas thrust onto one so young so fast, it would take time to process and time still to fully accept. A month in the comfort of her family would help in the process most effectively.

Re: Heir to the Empire
After Argus’s acceptance of Silas’s plea to take regency the immense tension between the adjoined parties evaporated. Silas’s calm detachment returned to his eyes and he gave distance between his self and Argus. The monumental agreement which had just been sealed would not fully be felt until Alissa finally departed her home system. Yet, as Silas looked on at his former he warned, “I am counting on your guidance. I am by nature not trusting, but there can be no gain in allowing Alissa to be led astray.
Argus Kraiov would not sit idly by as the Empire was cast into ruin either by unsound campaigns or internal strife and corruption. It is by that truth that I will hold to the accord which has been struck this day.” Finished with his duties as a ruler and with the burden of his lineage still to be completed, Silas let out a weary sigh. “The weight of my position has prevented any attempt these long years in reconciling our differences. I doubt there will come a day to whit I shall ever again abide under the banner of the empire.
However, this may be the one chance, the single opportunity to regain my faith in what we once stood for. I hope some day we may both retire to a paradise far removed from such duties as we always seem to find ourselves in. Even if such hope floats aloft with no foundation, farewell my old friend.” With Idaan’s full influence drowning out the darkest reaches of Silas’s soul the Echani Lord reached out to the brother found in fire and duress. Silas’s allegiances to the Sith were largely out of convenience and perhaps as an act of defiance so many cycles ago.
Only the word of his daughter some nine years removed from this date might hold the sway to heal the fractures that separated Silas from the empire. Now however, it was time for the House of Karn to hold dear the short count of days that remained of their old life. It seemed no power in the galaxy could shield the children from the ravages of war beyond the borders of Eshan and Thyrsus. Idaan bade Argus farewell as the empire would soon depart to likewise make preparation to receive yet another Karn, this time of pure blood.
