The venture into the mountains was arduous to say the least but this was the true test through adversity. Evelyn's task was to discover the truth behind what the Eocho Mountains and the Force had in store and she was bound and determined to see this through to the end. Together they hiked into the unknown and together the survived through the bond they shared.

Each night they spent out there in the wilderness, Ben watched the clearest skies that he'd ever seen; unpolluted by lights and twinkling as bright as ever. For those precious few nights they spent out there, the Jedi Master took stock into the calm and let go of the worries he'd held for so long. For a moment there was no ongoing war between the Alliance and Empire nor were their Sith prowling in the shadows ready to strike as soon as your guard was down.

For a moment, it was just Ben, Evelyn and the Light.

Having Evelyn along and waking up before he had was nice. It was not often someone made the caf for him! He thanked her graciously and they spent their time wisely while on this trip. Not a moment was spent poorly.

Finally after three long days trudging through the snows and uncharted mountain sides, they arrived at what appeared to be just another hollow in the stone face of the Eocho Mountains. Though through closer inspection the carvings straight from the ice and stone delivered a much more different perspective. Designs that were clearly ancient by any stretch of the imagination, the carvings held pictures of many things and many different languages were scrawled across the surfaces, many of which were in strange dialects and alien tongues long lost to history.

As far as that though the alcove brought them into a cavern where the ice was hewn down to smooth surfaces and a room had been carved. There were old artifacts here covered in frost and age, many pointless save for fantastic pieces to be placed in museums.

Other than that and three large pillars in the middle to create a circle large enough for a sparring ring, there was nothing at all. No trace of anything else. No treasures, no scrolls, no people there to guide them, there was simply nothing. To the naked eye. Ben knew the truth and now he needed Evelyn to know this truth. Underneath their feet was a deep cave where her true victory would be found.

First though Evelyn would have to touch the Force in a new way. A deeper connection, a growth through the Force.

"It is time to take another step Evy. We've gone a long way to get all the way up here. Now we need to know why we are here."

He took a seat. The icy ground was very cold but he mastered the discomfort quickly and settled his mind on the task at hand. "As any meditation, begin with a calming exercise. Let the Force flow through you and listen to it as it speaks in this place. We are near where the Lightside gathers, a sanctuary, a location where peace is found. Focus on that place and remember your training up to this point. When the mind connects to the Force, the Force will open the way."

Still catching her breath and calming her mind, Evelyn was proud to be there. She had come so far, and in a way she wished that her mother could see her now. She had kept her promise of always having goodness in her heart, to help others without asking for anything in return, to fight for what was right and protect those who couldn't protect themselves, and help them grow stronger. With Jedi Master Ben Kenobi's guidance as her teacher and good friend, Evy had come far. She had kept pushing herself and her limits to grow and evolve over time.

The narrow path of a Jedi wasn't an easy walk in the park, but young Miss Swann knew this was what she needed in her life. A purpose for herself to fully live. This was it for her, and she wouldn't trade it for anything else in the galaxy. Even though her socks and the inside of her leather boots were drenched in cold water from the melted snow that had found a way in, and even if her feet were freezing, Evelyn took it as a part of the experience. The more she pushed her boundaries the more she could withstand in the end. So far their hiking trip up the Eocho Mountains had been a marvellous insight into what she was to expect on common missions in the future.

With the Light Side of the Force by her side, she knew she'd be fine, as long as she listened. So far Evy had followed the soft whispers through the Eocho Mountains from the Light and it had led her to this place for a reason. This was where they were supposed to be. She just knew deep down.

Regaining her posture, she entered the alcove with Master Kenobi and discovered that the path took them deeper into a cavern. The room they entered was carved out from the ice itself, and Evelyn was in awe of such dedication that was put into all of this. There might not be much there, it was simple, but with the Force flowing through so effortlessly, the brunette knew this place was special in a way. How, she was slightly uncertain, but with patience and understanding Evelyn knew there'd be more for her to discover here, she would nonetheless find out more about herself and be guided further towards the Light Path of the Jedi.

Her Master's voice emitted a small blurred echo throughout the cavern as if the ancestors of Ossus were listening in as well. Giving a small smile, she nodded in agreement. Miss Swann did not know why they were there, but what she did know, was that it would reveal itself in due time with a little patience and maybe even some meditation. As the Jedi Master took a seat in the middle of the cold floor made of solid ice, she listened intently to his words, her mind savoring every piece of information given. With the last sentence cryptic it was a challenge of figuring out on her own what to do in the very end. She understood. This had been a journey full of tests and understandment to the Jedi history, Ben, herself and the ever living Force connecting everything together. Without it, life wouldn't exist in the same way.

Evelyn's features revealed her calm but curious mind as she joined her Master in meditation. Her deep slow breaths caused the air in front of her to form a small mist every time the brunette exhaled. It was very cold for her in here, mostly because of her body's exhaustion from the hike, but she refused to give in to something that in the end would be trivial for her body as well as her life experience. She had been able to withstand the cold nights for a few days already here on this beautiful planet, not to mention some of those obnoxious nights back on Permafrost that would leave everything not in the Jedi Enclave in a solid ice form during some of the cloudless evenings when she'd be staring up into the big black void being the galaxy filled with small lights glimmering endlessly and helping her sleep as she wondered how her Master was as well as her missing sister, wishing them both well.

Everything up until now had given her preparation of what was to come. Nothing was ever easy and if it was, it wasn't the right path. She had been taught to take the path that would lead her down a hard life, but which in the end would pay off for her and bear fruit once she was ready, giving her more fulfillment in life than she could ever even dream of. The Light Side of the Force was her anchor here, and she welcomed it to embrace her, to help her let go of thoughts and concentrate on the here and now through the Force itself. The Living Force had whispered and the Unifying Force had beckoned Evelyn to this moment, and she trusted her life completely to the Force. It was her companion as well as her friend. She could always trust in the Force to get her through what she needed to go through despite what situation it was. All she had to do was to ask and it would lead her through the web of strings called life.

(OOC: Force Level 3 - 300 words required)
(OOC: Begin)

Closing her eyes finally, she continued with the meditation. Feeling all life around her within proximity moving about in unison through the Force itself was always an indescribable feeling. Like on Kashyyyk, she followed the strings through her mind’s third eye outwards as well as inwards. The beating and pulsating life everywhere, protected by the Light Side of the Force here in this place was remarkable to say the least.

Young Evelyn almost did not know what to do with herself due to the extreme sensations of Light beaming through. Even as her eyes were closed it felt to her as if she was blinded by this. The mountain itself breathed life everywhere even if they were surrounded by thick ice. There seemed more to it, and Evy was at a loss for words at this state.

However, it took the young lady several hours of deep meditation before she felt she even got anywhere. At the moment it felt as if she was frozen to her spot, not allowed to move. Was her mind not focused enough?

Then the breeze smacked Evy over her head, or at least that was what it felt like. She could merely follow the Light Side through the cavern, back to the cave, outside, and feel every living creature close by. Her mind wandered further, and she could feel how light her body had become, as she went out further through the mind's eye to look at the mountain itself.

She remembered the feeling of flowing in the air, and the same emotion came to her again as it had that many nights ago now. She felt peace… serenity, happiness, relief. There was no pain, nor any suffering, only positive things through the Force, as if it was holding her hand through this, leading her towards the right path she had to follow now.

Evy’s mind went further into the void of the Force itself. Further down the rabbit hole she went. Her body felt lighter and lighter for each moment passing by. There was no negative aura surrounding the Jedi pair.

Wondering what the Force was trying to tell her, she heard the distant choir and whispers back inside almost beckoning the Padawan to come near. Evy decided to look closer through her strong connection to the Force and her mind’s third eye swiftly led her mind back to where she started.

Only, something had changed… It hit her like a light, warm comforting summer breeze. Her surroundings glimmered and shined even brighter yet. The Force had embraced her and showed her a deeper sense than the normal eye could see. There, around her on the three pillars, the carvings, some were brighter than the rest carved into the thick symmetrical pillars.

Evelyn opened her eyes and slowly rose from her seat on the cold ice floor to move over to the first pillar. Through the Force she felt it, and placed a hand on the brightest symbol. A bit away, near one of the cavern walls, the young brunette heard the ice formations change and crackle softly. She knew what she had to do now.

Moving to the second and third pillar, she did the same to them and from her actions came the same reaction as the first time. The rock formations almost sighed relieved by this action, and had left a gap big enough for a buff person to move through.

Choosing to keep her connection to the Light Side open still, she ventured quietly through and ended at a blind spot. A wall in front of her, but, this made no sense to Evy. She heard the ice only moments before. Raising a curious brow she lifted her right hand and placed it on the wall. What in the galaxy…

(OOC: Force Level 3 complete - words 631)

Bringing up a little bright smile Miss Swann took a few steps forward, right through the ice wall. It was an optical illusion, a place hidden in plain sight, hiding a small narrow ice pathway that took her further into the Eocho Mountains. Where it was leading her to she did not know. "I have found something Master Kenobi… the Light Side of the Force wants me to follow this way, please, join me." Her soft and heartwarming voice echoed gently out through the cavern and pathway to the meditating Jedi Master.

Once again Evelyn Swann had failed to disappoint and her Master could not have been more proud in that moment for the task he’d presented to her had not been easy even in the slightest of margins. Sure it had taken some time to accomplish but Ben had known of full status Jedi never having achieved what Evelyn had just done. Pride in his Padawan was an emotion and while it was contrary to the Code, he did not care as the success of the younger Jedi was what he truly wanted. To see her succeed was a reward in its own.

Afterwards, once the Force had given her a way through the ice, she had asked him to join her and normally he would have sent the Padawan in alone but this was unnecessary as the most difficult portion of today had already been accomplished. This next step was not so much a new test or trial but rather a milestone in her journey. This was something that Ben Kenobi would most certainly enjoy to witness as it was not every day that a Jedi found something that was a great key to their training and even to their ultimate career as a Jedi Knight.

Without any further doubt in his mind he rose from the icy floor with the assistance of his staff and from there he brushed away the cold from his robes. Ready to venture forward he set a smile to his face and approached the entrance to the caves below. “In these next steps you will be seeking your future. I would be honored to join you as you find it.”

Together they stepped through the not-wall and he then simply followed her in relative silence, observing her reactions and sensing the thoughts on the surface of her mind, he was experiencing the joy of this accomplishment with her but not being intrusive. This was her achievement, not his.

Within moments of travel through the narrow pathways they were opened up into a vast and glittering cavern. Frost covered every square inch of every surface. There was, through the center of the room, a wellspring of crystal clear water. Being a spring it was warm enough to resist the frozen temperatures and keep flowing throughout but it was the brilliance of what was within that was the true marvel. Purely rounded stones, as polished as glass, covered the bottom of the stream and within the heart of these stones lay a florescent core that glowed with brilliant teals and sapphire blues.

Enough of these stones littered the belly of the stream that the entire cavern was lit not with gloom but with a soft vibrancy. It gave both Jedi just enough view within the cavern that they could comfortably see visually without having to squint or utilize any artificial lighting.

Ben had never before been within this crystal cave and once he entered after Evelyn he stopped and silently took in the scene of magnificent beauty. Quietly he was ever thankful that this place had survived the Empire’s devastating attacks on the world. He was also thankful that he hadn’t brought a device to steal images of this place… he believed places like these were unique and belonged to the Force itself. They were not for the eyes of everyone for treasure hunters and looters would surely have a hay day within these walls and such elegant natural formations such as these would be gone forever.

All along the walls were stony protrusions and glittering crystals. Stalagmites covered the ceiling and even some were fully extended from the top all the way to the bottom floor. A pool sat in the center of the room with a tall standing pillar with many crystals surrounding it as a prickly tree. The reflecting pool had a large portion of the shining stones in the bottom and kept the center of the room nice and bright… or at least brighter.

Ben did not feel he needed to give any instruction here and so he remained ever silent.

To him he witnessed this beautiful cavern for what it was. A blue and teal sparkling wonder. But to Evelyn Swann the cavern would be flooded with a whispering call as if on the wind and it would pull her to a specific location within this cave where she and only she would see a stone among one of the walls or the cavern or perhaps it would be on the ceiling or among the floor or even within the sparkling crisp waters… this stone would call to her and she would see within the stone a glowing verdant core. Within this core, of which only she would see glowing, would be something very special to her.

A gift, from the Force itself.

The young Padawan waited patiently on her friend and teacher, still smiling at her resolve. She wasn't one to boast, that wasn't in her nature, but she had to admit to herself that she was proud of what she had found out. A hidden secret passage leading to the Force knows where. Evelyn had a feeling that Ben too was proud of how she had handled the situation, in which she was more than glad. Ever since Kashyyyk, he had been a role model to the young brunette, and his personality as well as his kind heart had made her feel as if he had been a second father to her. It was nice. Yes, she was aware that Jedi weren't allowed attachments, and she had never let her emotions take control of her again after Ben had helped her. So of course Miss Swann believed that seeing him in that kind of role wasn't anything bad or wrong. It was if the attachment itself had become stronger and deeper there would be a problem. Thankfully this wasn't the case and Evelyn was merely thankful to have a good positive bond with Master Kenobi. Without him, she might still have been roaming around in the galaxy on the run from the Empire, trying to find a place to belong while searching for her sister.

Taking a deep breath, she allowed the Light Side of the Force to flow freely through her as well as around her. As Ben joined her and spoke about her future, Evelyn couldn't help but blink rapidly a few times slightly confused as she tilted her head wondering. What did that mean? Being curious as usual, she just gently shrugged her shoulders, knowing the Force would show and tell her itself in due time.

Venturing forward, Evy allowed herself to take the lead as she sensed this was a part of one of many paths to come in the future that her mentor wanted her to go through as she found out the solutions by herself along the way. And as they both continued to follow the narrow pathway further into the Eocho Mountains, her hazel orbs were met by a bright glittering light coming from a cavern a few steps further ahead. The bright light glimmered in all its glory in teals and deep sea blue colours. They had been led to a cavern filled to the brim with crystals. Evelyn's mouth was wide open in surprise and in awe to this beautiful view now all around her. Looking around and taking it all in, it was truly a remarkable sight. The Light Side of the Force flowed freely here and was connected to everything and the sight she was allowed to see could simply not be described with any form of words. Basically everywhere she looked, there were crystals glittering and shining through the cavern in a fantastic hue of blue and green. Thankful to be witness to such wonder, the young Padawan felt the life streaming through the cavern. It was as if the shiny stones and crystals breathed life themselves through the Force.

Closing her eyes she felt a soft chilling breeze gently caressing her features as it played with her brown locks of hair hanging loose to a bit past her shoulders in different levels. Her Jedi robes swayed lightly near her feet as she took everything in. Every sound echoing through the mountain itself. Each crystal in there had their own story and own time. Swann had studied about lightsaber crystals back on Permafrost briefly and knew every Jedi would find one if they were worthy to create a specific bond and connection with it. Like the calm and serene feeling she felt back aboard the Talon when she had practised her first wielding of a lightsaber, Master Kenobi's lightsaber. It had been an extraordinary experience and since they were here, she now knew the true purpose of their journey here. It was to gather the most important component to her future lightsaber. Her own lightsaber crystal.

Basking in the almost shimmering and glittering light, still with her eyes closed, the young lady took a deep breath as she gave herself to the wind, letting it guide her through the crystal cavern one step at a time. Her muscles relaxed and her mind open. Soft whispers and murmurs could be heard all around her from different locations, some near the walls, some near the stalagmites, others close to the wellspring of crystal clear water in the center of the room. Everywhere around her, it was beautiful as could be, but something led her closer to the tall pillar formed naturally like a prickly tree in the middle of the wellsprings pool. A warm, soft and lovingly feeling washed over her the closer she came like a welcoming embrace. Opening her eyes, Evelyn looked down into the clear waters at her own reflection in the vibrant beam emitting from the sapphire blue and teal coloured lighting. It was as if the Light Side itself breathed through. Looking up at the crystal formation in front of her, she noticed one of the teal crystals glowing brighter and more eminent than the rest.

Then it felt as if everything else around her went silent and went out of focus, the crystal beckoned for her to approach, and so she did, as if in an addictive trance unable to stop. Stepping down into the pool it reached her knees. The comforting warmth from the waters brought back some life to her freezing toes and made her robes feel heavier. However, this was it. That tear-drop shaped teal coloured crystal called out to her. The brunette reached up to carefully wiggle it free from its former home. Evelyn plucked it and as soon as she had it in the palm of her right hand, she felt dizzy and lightheaded. Though at the same time she felt confident, humble, happy, calm, patient. Was this what the bond created between a crystal and yourself felt like in the beginning until further preparations and meditations had been current?

Sensing a bad headache sneaking up on her, she chose to tread through the waters and back up on the ice floor. Looking back to Master Kenobi, she smiled relieved as if a missing part of her had been placed within her heart. Once closer to Ben, Evy spoke meekly, the headache surrounding her mind worsen. "This place is beautiful beyond what ordinary words can describe. Thank you for sharing this experience with me Master Kenobi. I have been taught an important lesson today, as well as been granted a wonderful gift." She reached out her right hand to reveal the tear-drop shaped crystal in a warm and soothing teal colour, gesturing for the Jedi Master to inspect it closer. The crystal itself emitted restfulness, mental and spiritual balance within, optimism, and healing, as well as elegance for a calm and reflective mood. It would be a reliable and independent tool and an important part of Evelyn from now on. It would aid her with her temper, should it ever get out of hand, and boost her creativity as well as her meditation skills. One thing that the young lady would have to be mindful of however, was the fact that it could be slightly prone to have Evy overthink certain situations before taking action.

Regardless, so much had happened that day already, and she needed to relax and get used to the new born feeling and senses with the crystal. "However, my head feels as if it is about to explode, so could we take a small break, please? I don't feel too great."

Re: The Eocho Mountains

Post by Ben Kenobi » Wed Dec 16, 2020 4:49 am

As he quietly observed her in a task that only she could accomplish, he was beaming with checked pride. This was a great success of which only a precious few had ever accomplished especially since the time of the New Jedi Order and its passing in history to the time of the Jedi Coalition of today. This was a good day and if Ben had to be honest with himself, he didn’t have enough of these days. Lately he’d been surrounded by so much darkness that it had weighed on his soul. It was such a heavy weight and it wanted to drag him down but he was stubborn as he was determined. This wasn’t the key to defeating these emotions however; it was the downtrodden feeling he held in his heart of all those that he’d left behind him that mauled his mental and spiritual stamina. But to have a good day like this… it was refreshing.

It wouldn’t wash it away but perhaps it’d help him last a bit longer before the end came to swallow him forever. Ben wasn’t pessimistic but he knew it in his heart that he couldn’t keep outrunning his destiny forever. He’d been among the first generation of Jedi to be brought up after the Battle of Endor through the machinations of Luke Skywalker himself and Corran Horn. He was also the last of them all and even those that had come after his day were gone. They were all gone.

His tired eyes never left the beauty in the crystalline pool. She gave him hope for tomorrow. Yet the great darkness on the horizon of the day after tomorrow… it birthed fear in him. He would need to meditate on these things for even the hint of such fear when in the presence of Sith or even the Dark Lord himself would spell terrible things to come. Yes, he would have to master these things in time.

She approached him and revealed to him the gemstone in the palm of her hand and with great care he accepted it from her. In that moment when his touch took it up and away from hers, the stone lost its radiant glow. But this was a connection of the Force issue and only natural. Each and every crystal would respond to its true owner and not to just anyone. To Ben or anyone else the stone was but a rare stone of great value yet to Evelyn it was so much more than that.

He took it up and examined it for a generous moment. It always amazed Ben how these crystals typically never had to be cut or fashioned any further than they were already. This stone was no different and it was beautiful. He could sense the Lightside of the Force within the heart and core of this stone and it was incredible to behold. After he returned the stone he admired it with her, “You have taken your first steps in a great challenge Evelyn, and you have done well. But it is I who should be thanking you for allowing me to share this moment with you.”

In that moment he never hesitated and he bowed to his Padawan and held himself there for a long moment. “You will become a far greater Jedi than I, Evelyn.” He rose up to his full height and smiled at her request. “Yes of course. Let’s get those boots dry before you catch your death out here.”

He led Evelyn back up and out of the icy trail and out of the cavern into the lee of the large stone formation where the wind was being blocked. From there he instructed her to rest and meditate on her crystal for these moments to the Jedi were important. The budding connection between the Jedi to their crystal would make the item truly unique.

From his small pack he retrieved fuel in the form of a trio of small cut timbers. They wouldn’t build a bonfire by any means but they would certainly offer several hours of heat in which they would be able to rest and recuperate. Lighting the timbers the fire immediately offered up to the two Jedi its warmth and for a moment he warmed his own fingers before shaking them out and setting his pack up so that Evelyn could set against it and relax… of which he wasn’t about to entertain an argument in and he gave her the first direct order he’d ever given her, “Sit here and close your eyes for a spell.” He wasted no time in serving her to the best that he could. Cooking up the small rations they’d brought into something nice and warm instead of frozen solid, some nice hot caf which wouldn’t taste its usual roasted flavor but more bitter as he’d added plenty of electrolytes in the mixture, and then he took her swiftly freezing boots off for her and using his staff he suspended them over the fire that they may warm and dry faster. His staff was made of a phrik alloy and so he did not fear it to burn of scorch in any way.

Other than that there wasn’t too much more in the way of comfort he could offer and so he finally took a seat next to her and it was only then that he realized the view. From their perch up high on the mountain top they had a commanding view of the entire Eocho Mountain Range and it was absolutely stunning. Wind swept snow cascaded down the mountain side in sheets as the evening’s snow clouds gathered to prepare themselves to dump several inches on the peaks, even theirs. The setting sun was far away and cut shade of orange across the grand peaks of Eocho.

Taking in a deep breath he took up a bit of the ration and ate then drank from the bitter yet welcoming heat of the caf. He felt the heat of their dinner warming his core and he was thankful for having brought them. He had a desire to sit and watch the sun sink down beyond the mountains before he went to sleep.

“The sun is setting, yet the dawn will be brighter still.”

As soon as she was given back the crystal, Evelyn wasn't sure how to react to the kind and warming words from her Master. She was flabbergasted of his long bow and the words that continued to follow with. Blinking rapidly Miss Swann had no honest idea what to answer back. She didn't really think of it that way. That she would become a far greater Jedi than Master Kenobi himself. She saw everyone as her equals and not herself as someone above others.

Nodding thankfully to his answer to her request the young Padawan followed suit with a tired smile.

Once they were back outside she thought it was a good idea that they had taken cover behind a large stone formation. The ice cold wind threatened to take Evy’s legs away from underneath her, as the biting cold cursed through her pants that were wet from the knees and down. It was quite the challenge to remain focused but Evelyn did her best to sit down on her shins to rest and meditate with her tear-drop shaped gift in the palms of her hands and eyes closed. The connection with it was outstanding even though she was exhausted and her head felt like a busy nightclub on Nar Shaddaa with heavy beats pounding mercilessly loud. The small gemstone, not bigger than the size of her thumb, emitted a soft and vibrant teal green glow. Beautiful beyond words and with so much history to tell she was sure.

After a little while, how long she didn't know, as her focus had been on the crystal itself, young Evelyn came out of her meditation slightly confused when she heard Master Kenobi speak to her. His tone and choice of words were like a command and not up for debate, so of course she obliged with a short nod and rose from the freezing snow to sit up against his backpack. Her legs were shivering but the warmth from the fire helped tremendously. She put the crystal in her front pouch attached to her belt before warming her hands too. What Ben did for her then and there she had no clue how to thank him for. It was obvious that he went out of his way to make sure she was as comfortable as possible.

Bringing up a small smile Miss Swann couldn’t help but think how parently like this gesture of his actually was. Taking a deep long breath, she didn't mind really. He had been like a father figure to her for a while now, so him being her mentor and friend meant a lot to her. The food smelled delicious and the freshly brewed caf worked wonders as she took a sip. "Thank you for this kind gesture Master Kenobi, but you shouldn't spoil me so much." The brunette chuckled softly before taking another sip of her caf. Her legs had slowly stopped trembling after getting warmed up again. Her pants and drenched socks were slowly but surely drying up once more too. It felt nice and Evelyn was proud of what had been accomplished today as her hazel coloured eyes looked out at the amazing view. The mountain tops were magnificent with the setting sun, snow and ice. Never had she ever seen something like this before and she would cherish it like she would with the experience in the hidden crystal cave.

Evelyn took a small portion of the freshly cooked rations Ben had made and felt how her stomach suddenly craved the food. Finishing up her caf she ate and savored every bite as it was much needed. Thanking her teacher again, Evy watched how the wind played with the snow. "That is true Master. Once we have rested and regained our strength we can continue. I sense that you still have more than plenty to show and teach me here. So I might as well prepare."

Frost had laid down a sheet of ice crystals over night as the fire had weakened and left the Jedi duo with little protection, Ben though was up before the dawn’s light and he was already in the throes of meditation, taking in the solace of the peace within these sacred mountains. It would be a generous hour into his exercise that he would finally turn his attention to Evelyn Swann; his ever diligent Padawan Apprentice. He tapped into the surrounding Force and used it to touch upon her mind. It was a gentle touch, a wake up call. Once he sensed that her mind had taken aware of his subtle touch he retreated and patiently waited for her to stir and wake the rest of the way on her own.

The fire still crackled in the dawning light and her boots were now completely dry and toasty as well, surely a welcome fact in this frozen range of the Eocho. He gave her a long moment to collect herself and fetch her boots before he spoke at all. “Good morning. Though there is no time to rest. Before we set off down the mountains there is something you must learn and learn well.”

Opening his eyes he captured her in his sight and smiled. The sun was behind her and it made her brunette hair shine, almost glow in the morning light. He stood up and moved to his pack that was still on the ground and he took out some dry socks for himself and changed them. His own were near frozen and wet, a dry set would help to prevent cold injury. Once accomplished he took up his staff and he unclasped the weapon component just as he’d done aboard the ‘Talon’ and from there he kept the staff while handing Evelyn the lightsaber hilt itself.

“For this lesson you must learn to defend against the influences of telekinesis physically and an assault mentally. The Sith are very keen to attack using the Force and this is but one of the many ways in which they may try and assault you.” He motioned to her to prepare. “Your goal here at first is simple; keep the lightsaber in your hand.” He allowed her a moment to prepare herself and once he felt she was ready, he reached out with the Force and touched his lightsaber hilt and through his own telekinetic ability he stole it quite easily from her hands regardless of her physical strength. The hilt flew to him and slapped into the palm of his upturned hand. He smiled gently. “It is important here that you do not mistake physical ability with a defense of the Force. Through the Force we may shore up our minds and bodies to prevent such basic attacks. Should our weapons be pilfered then they could be used against us or worse yet against an ally or an innocent. We must ensure that as Jedi we have a sound foundation with which to defend ourselves that we may defend others.”

He tossed the lightsaber back to Evelyn and began the lesson anew. “Focus your mind now and listen to the Force, let the Light guide you in this Evelyn,” he paused a moment and let her prepare further, “draw the Light of the Force towards you and into your center of being. Once you have an amount of energy within you it is time to channel it from your center and construct a barrier. Start to weave the energies of your mind together into a firm barrier and after a time you should feel the Force you’ve built up as a dense layer. You can focus this shield into a directional defense or allow it to cover you as a whole. Either is situational and you should experiment with the differences as part of your training.”

Again he allowed he a moment. “For this exercise, I want you to focus your concentrations to your hands and establish a connection between your hands and the item you hold. Let the Force flow in harmony between yourself and the lightsaber. Focus, and protect it from my intrusion.”

Finally it was time to get to the active portion of the lesson and so once more he reached out and with his telekinetic ability he pulled gently at first upon his lightsaber. The intrusion would come slightly at first but progressively it would grow in strength to allow her the sensation of a more powerful opponent. This was an excellent exercise and would help her grow immensely through the Force.

Once she had finished eating, the young lady had gone to sleep. Her energy was drained and her mind unfocused. After what Evy had obtained, she needed the rest and she was vast asleep while Ben sat meditating. In her deep slumber, Miss Swann felt a subtle, warm breeze in her mind. Almost like the Force letting out a whisper. One she hadn't felt before, and it made her roll over to her other side. Her body had been made aware as well as her subconsciousness. Her consciousness began to wake up, and her senses became aware of her surroundings even though her eyes were closed. The winds had calmed down and the small fire still crackled softly. Taking a deep breath, Evy opened her eyes and rose to sit up. The snow crunching louder than the day before due to frost covering the surface like a blanket. Her hazel orbs gazed over at Master Kenobi. He seemed to still be meditating, but she had a feeling that he was still quite well aware of his surroundings. Smiling at the thought, Evy changed her focus and reached forward to grab her dry and warm boots. Yawning, she stretched and made sure to ready her muscles for the long trip down the mountains again. She put on her boots, happy to feel them warm up her feet and drying her socks completely instead of them still being damp.

Shortly after, she heard Master Kenobi speak and she turned her attention back to him. She knew there still were a few lessons left for her to learn up here. She returned the smile before rising from her seat as well, listening intently to what this lesson would be. The young brunette couldn't help but look slightly confused. She was to learn what? Standing there with the lightsaber hilt, she glanced down at it before looking back up at Ben, blinking rapidly a few times in further confusion. As Evy was asked to prepare she felt a lump in her throat. This was more serious business. One which she felt slightly uncertain of. She had a strong connection to the Force yes, but would she be able to succeed with such a thing that is more physical and mental than what she has previously trained and been good at? Taking a deep breath, she relaxed her mind and body, preparing herself for what was to come and reached out to the Light Side of the Force to help her and guide her through this as it had done all along on this journey of hers.

Even with the Light Side of the Force with her and her mind open and prepared, Evelyn was surprised at how quick and how easily the hilt was snatched from her hand even though she had a tight grip around it. Clenching her teeth, she exhaled sharply through her nose before taking a deep breath while calling to the Light to surround her in its embrace and help her understand this. Nodding slightly to what Master Kenobi said, she began to understand what he meant. She knew what he meant regarding this lesson through the Force, she just didn't know how to actually do this as it was a completely different level and area for her to explore.

As she was in her own strain of thought for a moment, trying in her mind to fully comprehend and understand this, her reflexes through the Force were shown when she catched the lightsaber hilt just as she returned her attention to her Master to listen. She knew she could manipulate with the energies, that was physics in itself, but like this. This was something different. Her connection to the Light Side had stayed open but Evelyn hadn't been sure how to deal with this in the best possible way. Her understanding hadn't been present, until know. Closing her eyes for a moment, she took another deep breath and allowed her connection to the Force itself to expand further, like she had done the day before.

She felt how the Light Side of the Force guided her down the everflowing strings of life around her. A path she knew too well. She then looked inward at her own energy and connection, embracing the Light around her like a safety blanket. It tingled and felt warm, soothing. Evelyn could see the energy before her, like small golden fireflies surrounding her as well as her own body. She felt safe and began to mold the energies in her mind. Young Evy couldn't help but feel the tingling sensation grow more apparent for each moment that she allowed the Light Side to twirl around her being as well as her mind watching the Force energies through her mind's third eye.

Now where she fully understood and could see it, it was merely a matter of practice and trial and error to get the hang of it. Her mind continued to reach out to the Light Side of the Force to grasp more of those golden coloured particles floating everywhere around her. Manipulating them gently to embrace her form as well as inside her form, Padawan Swann concentrated and began to mold them in her mind to a shield around her thoughts and then her mind itself. There after, once she felt comfortable enough through the Force with the shield she had created, her focus changed to her entire being as well. She imagined it like an energy shield consuming her and protecting her from harm. The more she kept herself determined, the thicker the shield became around her in general.

Once she had achieved this fully after a lot of concentration, Evelyn moved her focus anew to her hand holding the lightsaber hilt. She firmly kept her grip around it before placing her other hand on it as well, using the hand as a current to the Light Side of the Force itself and the hilt. The energies swirled immensely fast like a tornado around her. It felt right through the Force, like she was doing this correctly. Her mind was on full power and ready, like a waiting thunderstorm of energies. It was slightly tricky at first, getting the feeling of the hilt in her hand as a part of herself. It had been done before when she had practiced the lightsaber training. The same connection she felt again when Ben manipulated with it. The soft pull was felt through the Force quicker than the pull from her hands themselves, but she kept the energy barrier up. She continued to build on it, creating layer after golden layer of energy around her, making sure the hilt itself stayed within this shield at all times.

The stronger the pull the more the young lady moved into the strings of the Light to aid her in keeping the tingling energies around her thick, constant and out of harms way from the telekinetic manipulation. It was very challenging keeping it up however, and after a good long while, Ben's abilities went past her own. She felt the hilt slip from her grip, like a slippery eel, but she refused to just give in and continued to still hold on even as it moved its way out of her hands bit by bit. However, Evelyn embraced the possibility of failing this task of holding on to the weapon, but she kept going when it came to creating more barriers around her mind, body, soul and lightsaber hilt.

Taking a deep breath, the young Padawan opened her eyes to look at her teacher, her features revealed her focus on this task and that even though she was close at losing the hilt again, she refused to give in or give up voluntarily. She remained stubborn, thanking the Force for helping her through this difficult challenge so far as well as admiring the beauty of the flowing energies the Force were.

Ben’s smile couldn’t be held back as he witnessed his Padawan trying with great effort and succeeding to hold back the offensive energies of the Force. She had done nothing short of impressive work here and she had done very well. Releasing his influence over the lightsaber hilt he approached her and both hands landed on either shoulder of Evelyn Swann and he gave her a firm and confident shake. “Well done Evelyn. Again you manage to achieve the goal I set and I am certain you will grow beyond it in time.” He released her and took back his lightsaber where he attached it back to the head of his staff.

“We should be on our way, we’ve much ground to cover and now we’ve ran out of provisions the trip will be more taxing.” Again he smiled and turned away to quickly pack up their tiny campsite, snuffing out the fire with his boot and covering up most of the trace that they were ever there in the first place. “Stay mindful my Apprentice, on our way down as you fatigue from the journey I will be testing you a probing your mental defenses, use that which you have learned in the Force Shield to ward yourself. This training and familiarization will strengthen your own ability and prepare you for the future.”

So they set off on their journey down the mountains, fortunately downhill was always easier and faster. Alas such a trek was arduous and severe for anyone. During this time after approximately an hour Ben sent away his first mental probe. This effort was obtuse and he doubted Evelyn would miss it. It was a blunt intrusion to read her surface thoughts. Later during the trip his intrusions would vary in strength and severity from further harsh entry attempts to very subtle brushes of her mind that may have felt like nothing more than the breeze; she would have to identify the Force surrounding these efforts and act accordingly. The Force Shield was a technique of great value to the Jedi Knight, her expertise in the field was essential to combating the evils the Sith may throw her way.

Their journey would take them many hours again through the mountains. It took three days to climb these mountains and again three days to descend safely down to the ship by the frozen lake. As the dusk settled in on the first night it was clear that they’d met their first great obstacle.

With no food and no firewood to comfort them, Ben guided his Padawan to another rock formation into the lee of the stone where the bone chilling wind was to be blocked. He stopped here and shook off the snow from his cloak and gave her a confident look. He was exhausted and he suspected she was the same. The only way they were getting off this mountain without help… was with the Force. Ben took a seat in the cold snow and set his staff down on his lap; motioning for her to sit as well. “We’ll get no further today. The nights are unforgiving up here. For now, we rest.”

The obvious trouble was now that they had no shelter and had no fire to keep them through the night. “Tonight it is time that you learn about alteration. It is the third tenant of our studies. Control is the Force within us, Sense is the aspect surrounding us, Alteration is the manipulation of the Force itself; be it in others or even within ourselves but it is the change of the Force by our will.”

He closed his eyes, he was going to go through this exercise right along with her for he too was freezing from the cold touch of the Eocho Mountains. “Calm yourself down now. Settle your mind and listen to the Force around you as it moves along the mountainside. Fill your senses with its touch and center yourself.” He gave her a long moment to focus herself as he too needed a moment. “Narrow your focus now to your own aura. Feel the Force within you; it is strong here and so will be your task, to move it.”

“I don’t need to go into anatomy and what happens to our bodies when we get cold. But understand that it isn’t the body we are changing… or manipulating. It is the Force. Look closely with your senses and see it. Let the Force guide you here. Touch the Force that is within you and surrounding you. Where it dwells and sits dormant in a gentle flow, you must reach out and push it further. Increase the flow’s speed to a more rapid state and create energy within the Force just by the simple movement and friction. Get the Force moving. Once you have done this use this energy that you’ve created and guide the Force to the parts of your body that is most cold. Your ears, nose, arms, hands… even your toes. Everywhere most affected by the cold. Settle this energy onto these targeted areas and feel the warmth of the Force. Let your concentration guide the extent of your manipulation.”

“This lesson is very much like a frozen cup of water. You aren’t necessarily warming the ice to melt it but you are using the Force’s energy to touch the ice’s own Force energy. From there you are compressing this stored energy and creating simple movement with the Force. Two sticks being ran together create heat. The Force within yourself ran together with the energy you have gathered. It is something so small we may overlook it. But it is also the opening of a door into a larger room.”
