Re: Anyone Reading Anything Good?
I'm re-reading 1984, but my recommendation of the year (well, last year really), is the First Law trilogy by Joe Abercrombie... or just anything by him actually! I think you'll get more of a kick out of the other books after reading the main trilogy though.
As much as I loved the first Patrick Rothfuss book I don't understand the huge buzz around him, especially compared to a writer like Abercrombie.

Jay, I'm reading the first law series slowly, and youre right. Abercrombie is a fun writer!
I'm also finishing the Broken Empire trilogy.
Had to quit the bane trilogy for now in favor of those two. Karpyshyn is good enough buy I couldn't stay hooked.

Tried to read the first horus heresy book. Found it tough going. It's my problem with 40k in general- there's a lack of human scale to identify with/care about.

Re: Anyone Reading Anything Good?
A big thing I like about the fiction is how even the humans are wholly alien to everything we as a species currently stand for. I can see how that might be difficult in book form though, tough to empathize with characters and such

1984 is a fantastic read. I read it in my late teens when I was going through a "learn the classics to be interesting at parties" phase.
However, it suddenly seems all too relevant! So I thought I'd revisit it.
