Buggie's Galaxy Cup Adventure

Post by Master Buggie » Wed Jun 06, 2018 9:16 pm

I was speaking with Raphael Xandir about the upcoming FIFA World Cup (let's call it the Galaxy Cup from now on to avoid complications) and, while I still plan on opening up general means of betting on the most widely viewed and followed sporting event in the galaxy, we are also planning to do a more "pick 'em" styled version of betting on the tournament using in-game currency. To be clear, this idea ONLY is being offered in the context of wagering using in-game currency.

What I am proposing is that we do a snake draft of the 32 teams in the tournament and offer rewards for the teams that win their group, as well as teams that progress to 3rd place, 2nd place, and the biggest reward will be for the person who picked the team that wins the tournament. Specific payouts have yet to be determined; this thread is only to gauge interest, but we can talk money once I have an idea of who wants to play.

I referenced a "snake draft" earlier, and if you're not familiar with the term it's a process of picking teams where, for example, if we had four people drafting, each person would pick in order 1 through 4. Once the fourth person makes their selection, the order is reversed and the fourth person selects again, then the third, then the second, then the first, who makes two picks in a row as the order reverses yet again.

The structure of the tournament is that there are eight groups with four teams each in them. After the group stage, the top two teams of each group move on and play for the championship in the knockout stage of the tournament. We would require 2, 4, or 8 people participating if we wanted to split the teams evenly.

Do you need knowledge of sports in order to participate? No, not necessarily. I didn't know anything about the Galaxy Cup last time the tournament was held, but it's such a big event that it's easy to get into it, especially if you have something at stake, which I did. I will urge you that you should not be afraid to participate because you don't know about sports. It's more of an opportunity to do something fun and to participate with other people around the site during an event that only takes place once every four years. I would recommend that everyone participating do some basic research on the teams and who has the best odds of winning so that you're giving yourself a fair crack at winning the big money.

Let me know if you have questions or if I didn't explain what we're doing here clearly enough. I'd be happy to walk anyone through this more closely if it means that we can have more bodies participating.
