-Kashyyyk Sector-
The unmarked freighter registered only as 'Arbiter's Gaze' soared into the upper atmosphere of the green and blue marble commonly known as Kashyyyk. It was to be more than that to the Jedi, who shared a lot of the fortunes of the natives in recent decades, and as such a bond had developed. Wookies would always be friends of the Jedi, and that was a contributing factor as to why Jarak's starship had set course for it three days ago. He had received no orders, no mortal method of communication.
Yet when he dreamed, when he cleansed his being in meditation and even in combat, he felt that had traveled far from where the force needed him. Every Jedi, or anyone who served the force rather than seek control it, found themselves 'pulled' as if connected by a cord to others they've met, shared moments with or had moments still to share. In a way it was a summoning, and some of the older Jedi had experienced this before. Jarak himself, a Jedi Knight, had experienced it before now. He learned a few things from that experience, but the capital lesson was to never ignore it. It was an evolution of the basic ability of a Jedi to sense other force users, but more like sensing a change in the wind or current in a sea.
An audio message came through the speaker resting just above him to the right, rewired and repaired several times over. The initial static caused him to tap it slightly, as if he knew it was a weak connection on his end, rather than poor comms from the sender.
"Arbiter's Gaze - confirm passengers or transmit manifest before we clear you to land."
The hooded man laid back in the chair, nodded the required confirmation to the reassembled pilot droid. An essential bit of kit, for those with a tendency to jump out of moving vehicles. Jedi fell into that category more often than not.
"Passenger: One. Jarak Kai. Jedi Knight, starship name Arbiter's Gaze." The droid stated, factually only and without any musical swing in his voice, like the more expensive models.
There was a slight pause.
"Pilot droid, confirm Jarak Kai, Jedi Knight is passenger?" The female voice asked.
This caused Jarak to turn his attention to the droid. He had only been awake for two hours, having finally received some uninterrupted sleep when he turned back to the rest of the Jedi. The dreams apparently relenting now he was on the correct course.
"Confirmed. Passenger is Jedi Knight and is looking at me right now. I would not attempt to package a Jedi." The droid replied, causing Jarak to smile a little. He liked the simplicity of this unit. The lack of personality was it's own in a way, giving it an oblivious charm of a simple man. An excellent travelling companion for someone who didn't want to share his experiences in the long hours between destinations.
"That's great news. Please welcome Jedi Kai home and tell him he's expected." The channel closed immediately after, offering no chance to question the latter. The droid turned to Jarak.
"That sounds nice." It said, not fully understanding what he was saying. Jarak raised an eye at him, causing the droid to contain it's attempt at small-talk for later. Instead redirecting it's attention to landing the ship.
The Jedi had left known space sometime ago, feeling drawn to areas that required his attention. Even in the waning days of the Old Republic, there were Jedi who didn't actively perform standard duty within the Republic, but instead wandered like the watchmen of old, applying justice and offering mercy to those who needed it beyond the boundaries of temporary borders and civilizations.
His attire had not changed however, though his hair was a little longer and tied behind his head in a thin rope, which hung loosely and almost untied. His robes consisted of a heavy grey wrap from the right shoulder coming down to the waist and wrapping around his upper legs over a navy-blue tunic. The only really recognizable thing on him was the typical belt of a Jedi, an old badge of the Old Republic enclaves instead of a buckle, and an ornate lightsaber coated in impressive, valuable metals, though it was clear they had seen a lot in the short years they had been attached to the hilt. Jarak himself felt the weight of the journey away from civilization, the scars the darkside continued to wreak upon him, thankfully from other bearers rather than himself. It was difficult to keep emotion at bay, as these encounters brewed a strong contempt within him for all he had seen.
The Jedi had managed to stop his spiral into self-loathing and resentment, but this had manifested itself into an apparent cold and ruthless take on the darkside wherever he encountered it. To a non-Jedi, he would often explain that it was like a smell that simply provoked your worst feelings to the surface with little effort. He had thought it was a reaction of the darkside, trying to throw him into an old pattern of battle and conquest, but he realised this wasn't so, for the darkside lost, each time this happened. Jarak wondered if this was perhaps the force flowing through him, passing it's judgement on the corruption it had deemed a perversion of it's intent.
All these thoughts disappeared as Jarak heard the familiar sound of the birds nested in the massive trees around the landing pad. A slight breeze blew through his hair and robes. His cloak flapped as he moved off of the bay, towards the center of the Enclave. He lowered his head at a young Jedi, leading several mechanic droids to the Arbiter's Gaze. The young Jedi bowed much lower, and he wondered if he had mistaken him for someone else. His intent was to talk to the boy, but a strong, familiar current washed over him, reintroducing itself to him and truly bringing him back to the past. Jarak turned to the source of the tremor he felt in the force, his previously grey eyes, now blue like the crystal in his lightsaber would appear unfamiliar to those who had stared at the orange, then grey eyes of the Sith Lord who threw it away, to instead listen to the force.

Kashyyyk was a pleasant stroll through the Force when one came here and was in search of it. The natural beauty was bountiful and thriving in every way, the wildlife was vivid and strong. Certainly the world carried its darker corners as most worlds do, often Kashyyyk more than most. But here among the Jedi Enclave it was a broad spectrum of the full definition of peace. Every aspect a welcoming venue for the Jedi soul to rest and recover from a Galaxy filled with more strife than every before.
When the ship had touched down, Jedi Master Kenobi had been standing by. He had known Jedi Kai was on his way and the Council had instructed Kenobi do deliver a message. Typically Ben was not utilized by the Council as a courier. Usually in fact he was off at the far reaches of Alliance Space and beyond seeking out Darkness wherever it hid. Though he did not mind. Particularly in this case as he had been involved with the recruitment of Padawan Ranah Jansen.
Patiently awaiting his queue to approach once the wash of the engines died down, the elder Jedi approached Kai from behind. Ben too had grown out his hair somewhat, opting for something just beyond shoulder length and tied back. His moustache and beard had also extended but not too far to cause for additional grooming. The look almost made him look like a hermit. The vitality in his green eyes did not argue with this notion; he had traveled far and wide in his duties and his eyes held intense life but also an experienced story behind them, one filled with much loss and friends left far behind. This however was not sullied for his smile was genuine and as warm as the sun that scattered its warmth through the canopy.
His robes were traditional and tan though in contrast his cloak was a charcoal gray and riddled along the edges with burns, holes, tears and the weathered cloth that had been underneath the light of a thousand stars, striding through the rain of a thousand worlds. A simple lightsaber of black alloy and chromium sat attached to his belt, the golden yellow adegan pontite crystal within it, even deactivated, brought a soothing and cool feeling to Ben’s inner state of mind and always gave him an anchor with which to settle on.
Leaning on a simple metal rod, more or less a walking stick than anything, Ben viewed Jarak Kai with a welcoming smile. The aged Master inclined his head deeply to the youthful Knight, he was not beyond bowing at the waste but his back often hurt and this saved him a modicum of pain through remaining upright. “You’ve arrived! I trust your trip was not too eventful. Come.”
His boots fell to the rhythm of his walking stick as he made his way leading Kai through the entryway of the Enclave where hand carved doors that stood sentinel yet open permitted them entrance. “It has been a very long time since you’ve gotten this far to the interior. I’m sure you’re expecting some down time,” Ben paused as they arrived to the entrance way of the training chambers, “I’m both sorry and pleased to announce you’ve already gotten a new assignment.” Turning back to the doorway it slid open and both Jedi were given over to the view of an older Padawan with red hair, her Padawan braid slinging around with her swings and slashes as she went through the motions of a smooth orbit in the Shii-Cho Form…

Re: Kind Omens (Ben - Jedi)
Ever since the events of Nar Shadaa Ranah Jansen had spent alot of time in meditation and study to heal and learn , she had relayed the events of that battle to the council. It was from then that she learned that the one she engaged in battle with was a Sith. Given the fight Ranah had deduced that the woman was an apprentice much like she is. Once she had healed the council had sent her to the wookie home world of Kashyyyk where the Jedi had an enclave. The wookie home world was teeming with life and it was something that always helped Ranah. Communing with life always had a way of centering her. Ranah had been put to work which she had not mind. She did not know the purpose of the relocation, and she in her wisdom did not question it. She even got to engage in a Lightsaber training sparring session.
She had stood across from the Wookie Padawan, he was young for a wookie but at the same level of development as Ranah. She bowed her head to her opponent as a sign of respect, the Wookie growled in his native language. Ranah understood Shiyrook enough to know that the Wookie had wished her luck.
“You too” she had said to her fellow padawan
“Master Kenobi” she said with a respectful bow , and then approached the pair. “ What brings you to Kashyyyk?” she was glad to see him, as she had scantly seen him since she left the hospital what seemed like another life time ago. She looked at the other Jedi she did not know she bowed her head to Jarak Kai in a show of curtesy and respect
“Hello” she began “I’m Ranah”

During the battle Ranah had been aware of being watched, only one presence felt slightly familiar to her. She clipped her training lightsaber and fixed her hair as some of it had fallen out of her ponytail she had put it in earlier. She turned around and saw the man who had brought her into the fold of the Coalition.
=Begin Advanced Lightsaber Combat 300 words=
Ranah cleared her mind and let go of her emotions she would let the Force flow through her freely, unhindered. The Wookie wasted no time in starting the duel, he was on her fast. He moved fast for one of his size, he was in Form I , Ranah had been pronounced proficient in Form I it was the sole form she had known, but proficient or not Ranah barely had enough time to power on her own training lightsaber to defend herself. Ranah would swing and block with the grace and skill of someone who was comfortable in the sequence. The Force flowing through her she could not anticipate her opponents attacks but she was getting better at recognizing when the Force prompted her to react. In the most basic of forms, she had moved with the style and grace of a proficient adept. Her grip on her training lightsaber felt comfortable in her hand it was at last familiar in her hand it no longer felt like an awkward weight. Her comfort in handling the signature weapon was obvious in her body language as she repelled her opponents fast brutal attack, She would not match him for brute strength as that was a losing battle.
Ranah finally found her opening as she went on the offensive, she had blocked the Wookie’s initial attack using Form I, but Ranah had been studying the other Lightsaber forms and had even spent time with the sparring droids trying out the initial sequences of Form II, and IV, she also had guidance in the form of the more experienced Jedi who had been guiding her since her recruitment, the Human woman Jedi Knight Pellan. Ranah with some effort changed forms and went into Ataru ,Form IV. Her footing adapted the change easily but her stance felt to Ranah clumsy. She had initially taken to Ataru for its aggressive in nature style but it was measured and perfect for duels such as this. She had swung her lightsaber towards her opponent in measured, focused strikes. Her fluidity was not as smooth as her defensive gambit had been and it had showed but her ability to switch forms with spoke volumes, any senior Jedi would be able to tell that she studied and practiced. In her sloppiness she was fortunate that her opponent was not a Knight or a Master as the battle would have ended there immediately. The Wookie had easily blocked each of her strikes but the look on his features said he was impressed and surprised at the switching. In the past the duels would have ended by now, for Ranah this was the longest spar she had been involved in. Each wave this spar added would build up Ranah’s stamina,
Neither side gave ground. Ranah wore an expression of determination, and a ferocity but her features showed no hatred, she felt no anger within her. She felt nothing as she dueled her hairy opponent. She acted and reacted with each block and strike. She was starting to sweat, her padawan’s braid swaying and swinging as she attempted to land another series of strikes in Ataru. The sounds of clashing lightsabers filled the room. They had orbited each other more and more as the battle continued, a sign of fatigue in both. Ranah bit her lip and with what reserve she had left called upon the Force as she went into a flurry of strikes, swinging high, low, mid level, feigning high then going low again. The flurry were all moves she had learned associated with the most basic of forms. Her opponent with less fatigued limbs blocked and danced around each strike. He was not fooled by her feints just as she was not fooled by his. Finally the bell chimed which signaled the end of the spar. It had been the first time Ranah made it through an entire spar.
She powered down her training lightsaber and once again gave her opponent a respect bow of her head at the neck. This had been the first time in her training that she got to try the few initial sequences of Ataru she had no illusions she had a long ways to go , but she personally felt she had improved alot since the first time she had used her training lightsaber. She had much to learn.

Re: Kind Omens (Ben - Jedi)
The pair of familiar Jedi descended into the enclave, as Kenobi had said, far deeper into any Jedi complex that the wandering Jedi had ever been. He had a strange aversion to gatherings of Jedi - some suspected it was guilt from what happened with 'Krynn'. Others embraced the more romantic version that the former Sith Lord, now free from heavy chains of anger and the Darkside, wanted nothing more than to be free to roam following no instructions or orders except those that flowed direct from the Force.
This wasn't true of course - Jarak operated with a single order usually for extended periods of time. He liked it this way, because, despite the exaggerations, he did like to wander free of any bind to any location.
Jarak dropped back slightly from Master Kenobi, part out of respect for the Jedi master, but partly due to habit. The last time he had officially walked the halls of a Jedi enclave, the jedi had perished millenia ago, and all that remained of them was echoes of distrust and anguish. Here however, there were plenty of Jedi and the last time he had been around the living, he was still a Padawan. So, he fell in line as such.
They came across the hall where the Padawan's repeated precise strikes and combinations of such, until they were engrained by memory and carved into their essence or 'soul', as some cultures called it. This was something Jarak could actually call his own. He hadn't had to go through much lightsaber training with the Jedi at all - in fact, it was the part of him he brought to the Jedi. As a Sith, he was a talented Swordsman and since becoming a Jedi Knight, it was safe to assume he had only grown in the ability. What began here as routine and a form of physical exertion, became a dance for the truly skilled. Appearing unpredictable and impossible to read, it could still be broken down to the basics that were on display here. Jarak felt a tint of enjoyment in seeing the Jedi Padawan's in a healthy number. It had begun to feel like the Sith would 'breed' the Jedi out of the conflict, in a manner of speaking. He was relieved not to find another Jedi retreat, sparse of life. Something he had finally got used to.
He paid particular attention to the girl - after noticing Kenobi's attention fell solely upon her. The wandering Jedi already had a troubled feeling within, but he wouldn't say anything. He didn't want to unnerve the students and Jarak wasn't known for his quick jokes or ability to raise the mood. He carried a grim-ness with him and despite his instructors expecting it to pass, it never did. It turned out to not be of the darkside or force, but a natural defence created by his own personality to deal with what he experienced, and what was still yet to come. Jarak didn't blame Kenobi for focusing on this one. She had an experience of some kind as the Jedi Knight began to take note of her stance. Her feet were just the right distance apart that she had been caught off guard in the past and learned that lesson. Had her feet been any wider, she would be slow to retreat. Any narrower and she'd likely fall, and falling in a lightsaber duel, usually meant a quick and easy defeat. She had learned a lesson and he began to wonder under what circumstances it was taught to her, when Kenobi summoned her over.
The girl formally lowered herself to the Master and Jarak stood only a little to the side. She turned and introduced herself and Jarak had to use all the energy he had left to return any effort of a smile.
"Jarak Kai." He said plainly but friendly enough for most. "Though some refer to me as 'Kai'."
The Wandering Jedi looked to Kenobi. He felt that twinge in his stomach that something in the immediate area was due to interact with his path in someway or form, a reason for alarm, but the look of Kenobi's face, told Jarak that whatever was coming, would be of his doing.

Returning the bow by inclining his head to her, it was her joyful emotion that brought an incredible warmth with it. There is no emotion, there is peace; but to not feel and think took away from one’s humanity. It was the balance of this tenant that made one find that true sense of harmony within the Light. Ranah was learning of it and she was doing very well. Producing a smile he happily answered her inquisitive address. “Well I only arrived yesterday, refueling my ship and getting some repairs in that Aliclair couldn’t handle herself, we’re set to depart tomorrow morning. But while I am here I was asked by the Council to meet Jedi Kai here,” he motioned to the stoic man beside him, “and introduce you to him.”
Again Ben smiled as they both exchanged names. “Come, let’s take a walk then.”
Together the trio departed the worn grounds of the training wing and found their way through the hard wooden carved corridors to venture onto a high balcony. Offset from one of the mighty worshyr trees the balcony presented them all a magnificent view of quite literally everything. Dominating the view was a vast forest of the massive trees that seemed to span on forever. “I’ve received reports on your progress, but I have no read them. Preferably I would take your word to ear. How have you been getting along out here? I know the Enclave has been keeping you very busy.”
He turned to Kai, “But apparently not busy enough. Ranah here has already found herself in some trouble. But I am pleased to make mention of her success. She recently had a run-in with a Sith Apprentice… and survived the ordeal.” His words held slight worry, but could not deny the fact that he was proud of the effort Ranah had put forth to find victory even when one of those devious fiends were involved.
“But she once was a Lieutenant in the Alliance. Special Operations. Most of what she worked on was classified but what we do know is her last mission ended bringing her to us and ever since she’s excelled.” He eyed her carefully. “The Council made mention she was too old to begin the training, but we managed to convince them otherwise and Ranah continues to prove she can handle the workload.”

Re: Kind Omens (Ben - Jedi)
Ranah fell into step with the pair of Jedi having grabbed a face towel so she could wipe her face and then putting the towel on her shoulder. She nodded at the question about the Enclave keeping her busy.
“The Enclave does keep me busy, with training and studies and meditation all of which I am more than happy to throw myself into.”
Then the question about her progress she thought she was progressing well she was learning and getting better in the Jedi Arts with each training session. “There is always room for improvement and growth” She began “But from what my instructors have been saying I am progressing quite well but I still have much to learn” She conceded.
She had been a soldier so a lot of the recklessness that been taken out of her through military training, but in a sense she was starting over again. When the remark about the Sith came up her expression turned into a frown.
“I had gone to Nar Shaada to meet an information broker who had contacted me with information about my brother and sister but he never showed” She began “That blonde woman I fought was fierce and obviously further along in her training. While I am sure I displayed prowess and maybe even leaving a lasting impression on her, it was not my finest hour, I am sure the council told you that I had shot a bystander” she quickly added “ It was on a low stun setting, and if I hadn’t the woman was going to kill him so I did it to take him out of the equation, I did not even know she was a Sith until the council told me when I relayed all of this to them, but I learned something from that fight. I had acted as a soldier facing mounting odds, I don’t know if that was right or not, the man did live as I had saved his life. ” She had only her initial training when that fight occurred
She looked between the pair as Master Kenobi told Jedi Kai about her time in the military and the memory of the mission that brought her to the Jedi. She smiled at the praise he had said about the workload
“Coming to the Coalition saved my life” she had said, she was determined to be the best Jedi she could be with what she had to work with. She knew she could not ever be a diplomat or a healer, she was a fighter, she felt it in her blood in her very core. It had been bred into her. She listened as the pair discussed matters. She overlooked at the landscape before her, she had been to Kashyyyk a couple of times on missions, the Wookies always helpful to her unit. She always made sure to show them the gratitude and respect that they were entitled. Kashyyyk was most agreeable with the former Special Forces Operative.

Re: Kind Omens (Ben - Jedi)
Jarak followed Master Kenobi quietly, yet held a curiosity at the obvious centerpiece of the meeting. He had suspected she was more than another Padawan in training, as Kenobi rarely brought Jarak to interact with other Jedi. Not because it was awkward, though, it was, but because he didn't like to fabricate reasons to talk to his fellows and Kenobi knew this. What he didn't know was Jarak still held some shame for his origin, or guilt. Despite the fact it was taken out of his hands to begin with, but in response he harboured a silence that only be called a penance.
This made him a good listener. Useful in many ways, but it allowed him to learn far more quickly about others than he used to. Jarak rarely ended up the emissary or diplomat, but when he did, he was noted as bizarre for often making sector-guiding conclusions without conversing with the effected party's. He felt that they told him all he needed to know, and that nothing an outsider would say, could meaningfully contribute. He had felt that way about a lot of the more traditional Jedi occupations, that it wasn't for him. He never shirked his duties or avoided the subject, but his talents would always sit firmly in the martial category. He wondered if this was a natural thing, or something birthed of the life he abandoned.
Ben Kenobi's re-telling of Ranah's engagement with a Sith apprentice felt all too familiar for him, and he found himself looking at her in a far more judgmental manner than he would've liked. He promptly looked to dilute the gaze.
"A survivor at heart, or, more likely the Force had other plans for you it seems." Other's would've described it as luck, but not the Jedi, not Ben and definitely not Jarak. He believed if there was such a thing, Force user's had the power to negate it with training and discipline in equal measure. He made a point he felt wasn't always apparent in the Jedi Enclaves and other places of learning.
"Sith and the lesser manifestations of evil will always try to stretch a Jedi's empathy and compassion until it becomes so thin, so that it's no use to anyone. Jedi often get so distracted by the pain and fear of others, that our enemies are able to use it as a stun-grenade to our senses. This is a common tactic employed by them, and, unfortunately, an effective method to kill Jedi." He paused, before delivering what he believed to be a critical learning point. "When a Jedi meets a Sith - they must be your absolute focus of attention. They will attempt to harm innocents to slow their reckoning but if you remain focused on the ..." He thought for a less aggressive word, ".. defeat of your foe, then you will occupy them to the extent that they cannot harm others, or, if they do, you successfully slay or apprehend them, preventing countless others from falling to their whims."
"One day's apprentice, is another day's Dark Lord." Jarak said calmly. It was a difficult lesson to teach another - it screamed of detachment and lack of empathy for others, but in reality it was pragmatic and efficient. It was also a surprise for the last Sith Jarak faced. So confident in their longevity, that they employed a similar tactic by grasping an innocent with the force, though they quickly learned that Sith, like Jedi, needed to be disciplined enough to focus on their opponent.
He would have plenty of time to reflect on that point in prison, as the server droids operating dining utensil's fed him his meals, washed him and assisted in the trivial daily tasks. Trivial tasks indeed, for those with any hands or forearms.
