Location: Onderon (Grid: O-9)
City of IZIZ

The World of Onderon held alot of rich history, specifically for the devotees of the Dark Side. The Freedon Nadd uprising, the Sith War, the asencion of the Krath, to name a few, this planet was a treasure trove of historical knowledge and data. The world contained secrets, no doubt. Warvanus had done alot of studying on Onderon, and even considered establishing a compound here but in the end had decided against it. There was political division, some had sympathies towards the Sith Empire, but the world was not a Sith world, officially it was under the Galactic Empire with whom the Sith had a cease fire in place.

Kinta Vetasa , the apprentice of Lord Warvanus had been successful in applying the Force Mask technique. She had been going under the alias of Jannella Kass and had even changed her appearance. Her normal shoulder length black hair was now blonde. Contacts changing the color of her Iris to a hazel. She had arrived on the planet of Onderon, having used civilian transportation she had no intentions of making trouble or causing unrest. Knowledge was her primary goal, she still had to be careful here. While the sith had some influence here it technically was not their world. She had landed in the capital city of Iziz. Her Master had sent her here to search the records, as he was searching for more information on Holocron construction and was convinced that this world contained nuggets of knowledge that he sought. Warvanus had told his apprentice about attempt to create a Sith holocron and his failure. He was not about to undertake this effort again until he knew exactly why and where he had failed. She had wondered why he would not do this himself. She did not question him on this but would learn he had a mission of his own, his too was for knowledge. Say what you will about the Sith, but they agree on the one universal truth, and that was “Knowledge was power”

She walked through the streets observing peddlers with their wares. Food-stuffs, trinkets, even animals, she had no interest in any of it as not even the Beast Riders of Duxn that flew overhead from time to time impressed her. The Beast Riders and the Onderonians had made strides in their relations but there was still tension, she knew this from her studies of this world that she had undergone before setting out. It was said the tomb of Freedon Nadd lied somewhere on Duxn. Duxn was a unique moon, its’ orbit from time to time was graze the outer atmosphere of Onderon, which was how the beast riders had crossed over. Another interesting note about Duxn she had read , and that was for a brief time the Mandalorians used it as their home. Clan Ordo had sought to reunite the clans. Duxn was a site that might be worth checking out she had thought to herself but no doubt the tomb had probably had been looted so many times over that there was probably nothing left. She was also certain that the place the Mandalorians had their base was reclaimed by the jungle and the life on the moon. It had been about 4 millenia ago. Despite her curiosity she was certain that she was not here for a trip to Duxn. She knew this world was rich in history, even Darth Bane had been rumored to have come here shortly after he destroyed the Brotherhood of Darkness. She had approached what looked like a town square. A Statue stood in the center, no doubt it was one of Onderon’s rulers of the past. She scanned around then seeing the building she sought, she approached it and entered it.

Inside was a man behind a desk “May I help you Ms?” he was polite and professional.

“I believe you have a room for me” she said “Would be under Jannella Kass” she slipped her ID card to the man.

He studied it and checked a few things , the reservation was there and it showed it was already paid in full for a week’s stay. He entered a few things in his terminal and then gave her a key. “Your room is S-291 on the 10th floor shall I have someone show you to your room?

She shook her head “That won’t be necessary thank you” she said

She had no problem finding the room, once inside she put down her bag and sat on the bed. She had been instructed to look into one of the halls of records that was nearby. Warvanus had made her memorize the keywords to search. She would freshen up and get her bearings and then she would start in the morning.

Kieran Reyes, sat in his usual seat eating his usual meal at the usual time in the usual cantina. It had been another long day working at the usual job for the usual pathetic pay. How had he come to this? His spoon churned the gritty yet cheap priced gruel - at least it was hot. Up came a spoonful and he downed it easily, chasing it with a measure of some non-label spiced rum that he broke his ‘usual’ palette for. Typically he drank just water but decided he’d go expensive for once and bought a cup of the rum. He tipped up the cup and nearly coughed in reaction - it had been a long time since he’d indulged. How on this frakking world did he find himself here? Stuck up to his ears in debt.

The banks had foreclosed on his home, confiscated his pilot’s liscense and he never owned a ship himself, the expense was too great. The mine just didn’t pay enough but the foreman didn’t care. Onward Kieran ploughed through his day just like any other. Onward he kept putting one foot in front of the other.

In the past this would have never happened. In the past he had been a proud Irregular, serving the Mandalorians with distinction and hope that one day he’d be taken in. But they had left Dxun and Kieran behind. They’d had their reasons sure - and they’d told him they’d return, that they needed a scout to keep the door open. But they never did. Rumor had it that the Mandalorians of Dxun had gone to a world called Belsavis where their Chieftain was killed, the rest returned in defeat to Mandalore and here Kieran sat.

He wasn’t sure whether to be upset or not. Beeping brought him back to the forefront of his attention, his time card was chirping at him. It was time to head back to the mines. Sighing, he downed the rum and spooned one last portion of food. Sliding away from the bar stool he lifted his pack up to his shoulder and staggered out of the cantina, there wasn’t much to do here on Onderon and little pay to do it with.

As he exited the cantina he looked to the sky and saw Dxun looming overhead, bright and beautiful. He recalled being there before.

In better times.

The first day of research, yielded no results. She had returned to her room feeling exhausted. The next day also came up empty. She had picked the lodging she picked because of the Ysalmari, this gave her a break from employing the Force Mask technique. The minus was she could not touch the Force while under the bubble they projected.

She sat on the bed in her room going over her notes. One thing was for certain there was nothing to be found to further Warvanus’ knowledge of Holocron construction. In all her searching references kept coming up , Exar Kun, Ulic-Qel-Droma, Aleema Keto, Satal Keto, Freedon Nadd ,and the Sith. She found it odd that the Sith were mentioned she figured Jedi would have popped up more in her searches. She recognized the name Exar Kun and Freedon Nadd both were Sith, Exar Kun being the Dark Lord of the Sith over four millennia ago. Something to consider when she would return to the library in the morning. But right now she was hungry, and decided to head to one of the local establishments as opposed to eating in the hotel's eatery.

She had walked out and noticed one not too far from her, she made her way in that direction.
She had just about almost bumped into a man exiting the cantina , not looking where she was going.

Excuse me” she said

she looked at the man who looked like he was about down and out. She wondered if he had been a local, maybe he could give her some insight on what she had sought.

He noticed her coming - how could he not. She stuck out like a sore thumb, beautiful and radiant, certainly not of the local ilk and that alone brought even more intrigue since he too was not of this world but a foreigner in a common land. Regardless of his notice he was lost in thought and her shoulder came swiftly - he tried to jump aside and only managed to jump right backwards into something solid.

That something got covered in hot gruel and gripped the back of Kieran’s neck with one massive hand - it was so big a palm that it covered the nape of his neck and both shoulder blades. A Besalisk! The four armed giant lifted the miner up with relative ease and brought him face to face. “You spoiled my meal, I think I’ll just beat it right now of you Reyes!” Kieran indeed knew this man, an enforcer of the Red Walk which was a very powerful gang in the area and while he dreaded a pounding he was thankful that he wasn’t just stabbed and tossed in a ditch somewhere.

Up came Kieran’s arms in a crossed defense as instinct kicked in and the first hammering blow thumped against his defense but the power was immense. It didn’t matter how skilled you were - if someone was holding you up in the air and slamming a punch as hard as a sledgehammer into you - you were going down. Kieran’s armed defense broke and if the Besalisk had only two arms he’d have been fine. But Besalisk had four. Twin balled fists came back in place of the first and destroyed Kieran Reyes’ valiant and woefully unprepared defense. The clinching hand released him and the momentum of the twin punch sent the miner easily six meters away to crumple to the ground.

The Besalisk rose to his feet, he was flanked by a stout Gran, its three eyes looking over the girl that had been the start of this fiasco. He crossed his arms and watched her carefully that she wouldn’t intervene. On the other side of the Besalisk stood a Human male but he seemed uninterested in the sport taking place though he was obviously prepared to defend the huge alien if needs be.

Kieran slowly climbed to his feet, “Houk, listen - let me get you and your friends a round on me.”

Houk, the Besalisk strode closer, kicking the discarded pack Kieran had dropped aside. “Not this time Reyes, its been too long since the last time we roughed you up.” He rolled his neck around and it cracked many times, “I need a warm up today before I make my rounds through Iziz.”

He swung a fist down towards Kieran and the miner twisted his body to avoid the strike then swept his hands forward to trap the hand in a wrist lock. Another hand came in, Kieran shot up his left foot and struck the blow aside in a side kick, a third blow came and then a fourth but by now Kieran was maneuvering. He swept the trapped arm up and over his head to achieve full arm control on the outside of the guard and he sent his knee into the backside of the elbow, the joint flexed and popped, inverting and Houk let out a pained bellow in return.

Kieran ducked backwards underneath a backhand but it was just the feint and a diagonal haymaker slammed into his chest and pulverized him to the hard ground. He fell in a heap, out of breath and coughing for oxygen. It was obvious from his maneuvering that Kieran wasn’t just a civilian but he knew how to fight in more than a brawler’s form. He’d been taught by trained soldiers. Granted he was on the floor now, but not many his size could take on a Besalisk so easily.

Jannella was not having a good day, and it did not look like it was getting any better, as she almost clipped the poor guy , and almost immediately after she saw this poor soul was In trouble. She eyed the Gran who was eyeing her. She had half a mind to draw her lightsaber which she had concealed and slice off Those eye stalks. Then her attention went to monster with four arms. The poor man did not stand a chance against such a beast. She Was not in the habit of doing acts of charity but something told her to make an exception, she knew by doing so she would have limited Time to get off this planet and she was not any closer to finding what she had sought. One thing was for certain, the guy who looked like he was down on his luck was having a much worse day.

She took a breath, she dropped the Force Mask and then approached the Gran, in her previous life she had been a soldier but her sadistic
Tendencies won over her what she called “Soldier Common Sense” she drew her lightsaber, glad she did not leave it behind this time, ignited the blade and with an exacting swing aimed for the creature’s trio of eye-stalks, her intention was to blind the creature, She was not going to waste time. When she got past the Gran, assuming her attack was successful she approached the big ugly four arm freak. She drew on the Dark Side and using Telekinesis she shoved the monster hard as her focus could muster.

Now she waited to see what would happen next. If she was successful and this man lived, he would owe her. She needed a guide on this world, and he seemed to fit the bill. That is if they both came out of this alive. She knew she would, she was the apprentice to a powerful Sith Lord who was hand picked. She knew how to take care of herself in a fight. After she applied the shove She taunted the beast

How about I rough you up Ugly” she sneered she was ready she was hungry, and like her Master her bloodlust knew no ends.

The Gran didn’t stand a chance. Had it even an inkling to expect this unassuming gal would have a lightsaber of all weapons - he still wouldn’t have stood in the shadow of chance. He’d never fought against one much less ever seen one ignited. Perhaps he’d viewed an inert example of one behind the glass in a museum but the live real thing certainly not. The blade tore through all three eyes as if they were but fog on a misty morning, the Gran screamed and fell backwards clawing at his face and writhing in exquisite agony. His cries were not alone as the patrons within the establishment viewed the beaming sword of light screamed in horrified terror for their lives and began flooding in every direction to escape the wrath of an angry darksider.

As for the Besalisk - when the blast of telekinesis hammered home it sent the being flying across the street, through two tents - wooded supports included - and into the far wall. Bones shattered and he crumpled to the ground heaving from loss of breath but his intent was no longer of beating the brains out of Kieran but to survive. He began crawling away with one set of arms, the other set lay lifeless and likely broken or disjointed. Finally the human stand in jumped backwards, drew his knife and then he thought long and hard about what was going on. He tossed the weapon down and sprinted away into the crowd to live another day.

Kieran struggled to his feet holding his bruised body, nothing was broken but he could feel the bruises inside - likely some organs got jostled around from the impacts. Oh how he wanted to puke. But more pressing he wanted to run away. The beauty he’d nearly shouldered earlier turned to be an Adept! She’d already chopped one guy and sent ole Houk a special delivery that he wouldn’t forget. Now here he was standing in the middle of the street with his mouth wide open from the sheer awe of seeing an Adept in action. He could hardly believe it - but he couldn’t escape the fact that he felt he was next.

If this lady wasn’t going to off him then Houk was just one enforcer. Kieran had just been seen in a scrap with boys of the Red Walk. Before the night was out others would be ransacking his pitiful apartment and trashing everything he owned and then roughing up anyone he knew. He was as good as dead.

Either right here right now at the hands of someone he’d only have dreamed of meeting, or later with a knife in his back - time was ticking. May as well find fate head on. He stood straight and wobbled his way towards the lady, one hand still on his chest. He fought to pained cough down as he arrived in front of her - he bowed his head in acceptance. If his doom awaited him, he had indeed presented himself to face it. He had no weapons and was in no further condition to fight. To raise hands in any such gesture would have been an insult.

’Here we go.’ He thought to himself as he looked back up and into the face of his executioner or savior.

She looked at the lone man who had been almost killed. She closed down her lightsaber and placed it back under concealment. She did not know what to do next, she did not know why she helped the man but she was supposed to be incognito after all.

Are you hurt” she asked him.

She had no intentions of killing the man, she could almost feel the Force nudge her to this person. Maybe she would have need of him, maybe he was a stepping stone, right now she did not know.

She noticed that things were in disarray and that people fled in all directions. No doubt the local authorities would soon be here to find out what exactly was going on. She scanned her immediate area for a way to escape, and when none was visable she sighed.

Can I get you a drink?” she asked him

as she was heading towards the cantina where he had just exited from. But as she asked him her walking stopped as if she was waiting for him to answer her question. When he did, she entered the cantina and sat in a booth and ordered her drink. She ordered Onderonian Ale and the staff droid who had taken her order waited for the man to give it his.

Was this some kind of game!? Kieran was incredulous and he stood in utter disbelief at how casual this woman was about this whole situation. Killing people, displaying incredible powers and a lightsaber to boot! Then heading to the bar and asking for a drink! He didn’t know how to respond, how to act, how to think - dumbstruck. Absolutely taken off guard. Something though took him back to reality and when he next saw he was sitting across from her in a boot. Part of him was nervous, part of him said the heck with it all - he was sitting across from a powerful and beautiful woman, if this was to be his last day then so be it.

Yet, he couldn’t shake the need to warn her. “Listen,” he began as he accepted the water from the droid and gulped it nervously down. “I really appreciate what you did back there,” he warily glanced back to the entrance where the Gran was still writhing and moaning as death’s embrace began to cool its heart. “But we can’t just sit here.” He really didn’t know how to say this so he gulped down his nervous attitude and grit his teeth, summoning up the tenacity the Mandalorians had taught him. It was a good feeling, it made him want to stay and fight the reprisal that he knew was coming.

“My lady, you have skills and weapons I could only dream of. But you’re obviously not from these parts - with all due respect. As I am in your debt of life, I will do as you command. But I recommend you come with me. The Red Walk - the men you just tossed around, are part of a notorious gang,” he motioned around, “these people - they weren’t running from the authorities coming or from you, they are clearing out because they know the Walk is coming to clean house.” He also gestured to the bar, the host and bartender were gone as well - knowing what was coming. “I don’t think you’re a Jedi by the way you did that Gran in, but” he held up a hand and prayed she wouldn’t chop him next for this, “even someone like you can only take on so many thugs. They’re coming, and whoever is in this building when they get here are as good as dead.”

He was weaponless himself but he’d also retrieved his discarded pack, if she so commanded then he would equip whatever he could which simply amounted to a laser pick that he used in the mines. It wasn’t meant to be a tool of warfare but in trained hands it could be a deadly weapon indeed.

She could hear the urgency in his voice, she could also feel the fear rolling off of him. She drank it in. She listened to his thanks, and his pledges, she saved him because the Dark Side willed it so “I agree we need to get going I’ve risked much already and not what I did back there but my mere presence” She then lowered her voice

Her danger sense began to prickle as she rose from her seat, two beings approached her, both of them weequay “Where do you think you are going pretty” one snarled at her.

Jannella looked at Kieran and then back to the Weequays “I don’t think so” she said casually, as if she was offered an ice cream on a very full stomach. While her powers were limited, she was an apprentice afterall. She couldn’t draw her lightsaber again, she would rely on her martial skills instead, and with that she delivered a kick to the face from one, which sent him stumbling back, the other one had no chance of making a move before she was behind him and put him in a headlock, and with a hard twist she broke his neck. The time it took to do all this, the first one recovered enough and was advancing on her. She pulled her hold out blaster and jammed it in the gut and pulled the trigger. The second one slumped to the ground dead. She looked at Kieran,

I think we have overstayed our welcome” and with that she beckoned him to follow her, as she walked she tossed him the hold out blaster.

You might need this” she told him. Now was a good time to make a departure. Only could they reach her shuttle

A blaster! He took it in his hands and expertly checked the charge and the prime, both were set and he brought the weapon barrel down to the ready, it was just like riding a speeder bike. With her easy dispatch of the xenos breeds Kieran slipped out in front of her, if a sniper was watching he would take the shot - needless to say there was not though the roar of speeders on the approach was deafening - they were already here!

Around the corner came three large speeders. The front two were racked with troops, eight each transport and the rear car held four though was equipped on the rear pintle mount by a large repeater. “May I have your name my lady?” He inquired uncharacteristically calm - at the outset of battle his fear was melting away and adrenaline was taking its place. “If I am to die, I would have it. I am Reyes, Kieran Reyes.” The speeders were coming closer now and slowing to disgorge their contents. “This way,” he snapped and took off down the side street, away from the oncoming arsenal they were against. Certainly though is she chose to stay and fight to a glorious yet pithy end - he too would charge into the barrels of their weapons.

To his surprise she was in agreement and he charged his way into the alley. It was narrow and cluttered of which he was thankful as the pounding of feet behind them was accompanied by shouts that cursed their names. They raced down the length, feet splashing through the puddles of rain water and jumping across tumbled crates as the first strings of tracer fire leapt out to sting at their heels. Behind them the enemy were closing in and had just entered the alleyway. Poorly aimed as they were also on the run they loosed stray rounds that perhaps they’d take down their prey - a few came all too close as Kieran felt the heat through his britches leg on the left side. It only made him run harder.

To the corner of the end of the alley they came, the sound of a speeder was approaching but with the advantage of a speeder it could be above the buildings and for the echo they’d never know where it was. They broke to the right down another alley, shouting was ahead - the Red Walk were making an attempt to cordon the block - if they were fast enough they could break the cordon and vanish into the city.

Ahead came a small bazaar and Kieran burst into it full bore - he accidentally ploughed into a youth, papersalesman. Fliers went everywhere and Kieran went and tumbled forward through a flimsy stand. Shouting occurred as angry peddlers announced their brutish entrance and from across the small bazaar the authorities began paying attention. Kieran was on his feet and in the chaos somehow managed to find Jannella. “Move!” He shouted above the din and they began to race along the edges of the bazaar. An officer made attempt to impede them but there was no time to play this game - Kieran had to make a choice.

Jannella was important that much was clear. He barely knew her and shooting and killing a law enforcement officer was akin to suicide in Iziz. But she had powers and a lightsaber. She wasn’t Jedi. Was she Sith? No the Sith wouldn’t have bothered to save him. She was something more or so he estimated. But one thing was crystal clear - her survival was now his sworn duty.

Extending his hand the pistol barked and put the officer down with a smoldering hole in his knee - a swift movement that displayed two things to Jannella if she would notice - for one he was a crack shot which meant he was trained well, secondly was that he was no murderer as he had the chance to outright ambush and kill the officer. They passed on beyond the screams and added fire of the officer’s partner. Managing themselves onto a street they looked ahead and caught the glimpse of a large speeder truck. Kieran flashed her a smile and began running towards it.
