Present time...

Pilot Liroi Jynkyns pulled the control yoke to his chest as he attempted to shake off a pursuer. The StarViper-class attack platform responded sharply, perhaps a little too sharply, and Jynkyns could feel the inertial compensator strain slightly, pressing him firmly against the back of his flight seat. Jynkyns was never a finesse flyer; what he lacked in style, he made up for in aggressive and bold piloting. Back during his time with his home system's defense forces, he was always the first to lead the charge, and that eventually wore upon his squadron leader to the point where he was drummed out of the force altogether. It made little difference, he fell in with one group after another before eventually ending up with the Blue Star Pirates, specifically assigned to fly wingman to Captain Buggie in raids such as this.

Prior to the lasers crisscrossing all around him, he had spared a moment to wonder why the Verpine had not arrived at the rendezvous point. Captain Buggie was kept very busy by the Pirate Council, an organization that seemed to only be a concept in Jynkyns' mind, as he had never been introduced to the decision making body of the criminal group. Perhaps he had been pulled away; perhaps some ill fortune had befallen him. It wouldn't be the first time that had happened to one of Jynkyns' wingmen. Cruel rumors had always circulated about him and his style of flying, and how his headstrong approach got everyone else around him shot up, shot down, or entirely vaped.

"Jynkyns, where in the dozen hells are you going?" an unfamiliar voice called over his helmet-mounted comm.

Right into the middle of the fray, that's where! Jynkyns thought with a smirk as he corkscrewed his fighter between the Action V transports.

The timing was perfect, and it was as if he and Captain Buggie had planned it all out from the beginning. Reverting from hyperspace, an aggressively styled interceptor popped out directly in the path of Jynkyns' fighter. Diving down, Jynkyns got out of the way, and the light interceptor squeezed off a concussion missile with almost impossible reaction speed, before maneuvering away itself. Captain Buggie had arrived, and it seemed he had brought his best stuff!

With a hoot of excitement, Jynkyns made to maneuver his starfighter around for a celebratory pass on the convoy's haulers.

Something slammed into the ship, either that or the droids sent to pilot them were the worst pilot droids ever assembled. Starr cursed as his hands stung form the skin tingling shots of electricity that burst from the upper turret he had been using. Clear the system was shorting out and faulty as well. This meant only one thing for him. Check the blasted ships himself even if his captors took a displeasure to it. Crazy was one thing, like being deliberately taken prison and enslaved. Stupid was something altogether different, like sending two ships barely fit for flight into a battlefield hoping the other party involved will see that your ships return with a sizable profit regardless of how useless they are.

Change of plans tin-beaks, we need to use our ships as best we can. And since no one bothered to mention they're broken pieces of slag that are barely held together you're going to have to play mynock with those freighters.

Excuse me, mynock, that does not compute.

It's real simple wires for brains, you place our ships directly in front of those freighters, so close they can read the broke and can't attack label plastered all over these things. So they can't make a jump to hyperspace and flee. No clear path no hyperspace jump keeps them in one place. And stay in front of them no matter what!

Affirmative... in the mean time!

In the meantime I'm going to work my way to the lower turret and hope it isn't as high quality as the rest of the crew and ship.

Rane worked the controls of the Steel Rain alongside Medic but despite his best efforts to maneuver through the fire fight and avoid taking any fire, his ship was struck by an errant ion bolt that wreaked havoc on the Firespray’s comm systems.

“Sir, comms are down.”

“I see that, get them up and quick. I don’t want to lose Outback 02.”

“Yes sir.”

Rane wasn’t used to working with droids as his only copilots. He would need to find a crew if he was going to keep this type of work up. Besides, with his already demanding schedule with the Blue Star Pirates, there was little time to maintain his own side operations with Outback Trading.

Despite its damaged comms, the Firespray otherwise responded well to its controls.

“Sir! I’ve managed to re-establish comms!!!!” the droid excitedly blurted out to Rane.

“Good job Medic. Get the uplink to Outback 02 back online and let's get back into the fight.”

Unstrapping from the harness Starr was flung first into the controls of the blaster turret then out of the seat halfway into the shaft leading down to the lower turret. Half righting himself Starr made the descent passed the corridor leading into the ship and down the ladder to the lower turret. Being jostled and bounced against the narrow access shafts walls as he progressed the entire way.

Swear that droid is trying to break my neck on purpose. They'd probably write me off as a business expense.

Starr shrugged the thought off as he ran a quick systems check on the lower turret, everything seemed to be ok as he doubled checked the system last thing he wanted was a repeat of the upper turret. Of course that was out of his control, much like the low standard of business practice the Kessel Rock Trading Company seemed to keep for it's under the radar business practices. No standards it was almost embarrassing being stuck under the thumb of such ineptitude.

All systems checked out clean but so had the upper turrets Starr lined up his first shot hoping the droids would get into position to manually block the capital ships from making a jump to hyperspace. It was always a gamble.

Buggie's blind-fired concussion missile shot off between the heavy freighters without hitting any enemy targets, but it was an effective enough deterrent to allow his wingmate enough time to break off from the enemy pursuing him. The missile itself would carry onward on a straight path without homing onto anything and, eventually, it would detonate some distance away from the fray when its timer expired. It was already out of Buggie's thoughts by the time he maneuvered around to chase after one of the convoy's escorts. With power still transferring to weapons control, there was little Buggie could do to the enemy vessels, but perhaps having his light interceptor fall in behind one of them would cause them to veer off into the sights of one of his pirate allies.

Buggie's three-digit hands danced along the shipboard controls as he toggled his starship's shields to level out. Stealing away a quick glance at his weapons readings, he saw that he had power to pop off a few low-powered shots.

As his focus shifted back to his sensors, he realized that there were fewer ships showing up on his scopes. A sensor log reported that several of the convoy's escorts had already fled to hyperspace, leaving the freighters behind, at least for the moment. While it was unusual for the escorts to flee a combat engagement before the ships that they were protecting, Buggie didn't doubt that the freighters would be right behind the escort craft that had jumped to hyperspace.

"New objective! We need to keep those freighters from jumping away!" Buggie called out into the shipboard comm unit, directing the raid group to focus their attention to disabling the heavy freighters.

As Buggie's Helix-class light interceptor wheeled around and the sight of the twin Action V transports filled his cockpit viewport, he was satisfied to see that one of the unaffiliated friendlies in the raid group had already taken the initiative of maneuvering in front of the transports.

Good thinking! Now all we need to do is keep the convoy's escorts from clearing the transports' path, Buggie thought.

While the friendly YT-2000 did have turrets that it could utilize to pound the convoy's unarmed transports into submission, for some reason, it was not firing. Either the crew didn't realize the opportunity to fire upon the enemy transports, or it had sustained enough damage in the dogfighting that its turrets were rendered inoperable. Judging by the carbon scoring all along its battered hull, Buggie assumed the latter.

The violent bucking of his starship's controls broke Buggie's concentration, as a series of laser cannon bolts impacted his shields, seriously reducing their power. Buggie realized immediately that he had been flying in a straight line for too long and had picked up a tailing enemy. Breaking off his current heading, Buggie dove and began to maneuver himself to the last known whereabouts of his wingman, Liroi Jynkyns. Perhaps it was the enemy attempting to get in one last parting shot before fleeing with their allies, perhaps it was an enemy hungry for revenge and looking to dole out retribution. Either way, Buggie had no intentions of being a willing victim.

"I need help over here!" Buggie called on the general channel, as he grimly surveyed the shield readings.

Banking into position the YT2000 freighters lined directly into the paths of the convoys largest ships, crazy but effective if he lived long enough to reap the rewards. Starr squeezed the turrets fire controls as he let first one volley then another out of the lower turret. The problems with the upper turret was enough to make him go a bit slow to be certain he was going to suffer worse injuries then he already had. All seemed to be going well as the YT held it's position with marginal changes of course to maintain a blockade effectively stopping the far larger ship from safely making a jump to hyperspace.

The tension was mounting in his mind as flares shot through it recognition, the Way. He had no desire to step into that form of being though at the time he had his reasons to continue the subterfuge he was involved in. Sometimes the ends were just that, the ends. He eased his grip on the controls for a moment as a jolt of electricity arced into his palms.

If it wasn't for bad luck... This is going to hurt!

Starr glared at the controls for a moment the fire from his turret coming to a halt for a few moments as he relaxed his hands fully anticipating the coming storm of pain, burnt flesh and electrifying awareness. He clutched the turrets fire controls with a death grip bracing for the coming torrent of electricity depressing the fire controls he let the turret fire freely into the largely vessel as both pilot droids began firing with the weapons linked to their controls as well. Slow as ever Starr figured as the space in front of him lit with blaster fire and a stray concussion missiles or two from the two freighters. Figures they were cheap on the weapons systems and munitions. But it passed quickly all the thoughts as the electrical surges began to storm his hands pushing through the pain to hold out as long as he could in order to maintain the blaster fire on the capital ship before him, before both YT's

AHHHHHH!

Rane heard a familiar voice over the comm system. It was Buggie. He hadn’t seen the Verpine since they had last met up on Outback Trading’s last convoy a couple of months ago.

“Hang tight, I’m coming as soon as I can,” he signaled in response to Buggie’s call for assistance.

Bringing the Steel Rain around, Rane managed to locate Buggie’s interceptor. He flew the ship to attempt to come in behind the enemy craft, but the effects of the hit from the ion cannon seemed to have some additional lingering effects.

“Targeting computer is screwed my friend, and besides I’m too close for missiles, I’m switching to guns!”

Rane worked to disengage the targeting computer and keep up with Buggie and the enemy ship in his Firespray. With the targeting computer turned off, Rane wasn’t going to have much luck hitting anything, but he unleashed a volley of laser bolts from his ship’s weapon systems hoping he wouldn’t hit Buggie and that he might get lucky and hit the Sith ship.

“Medic, any luck with that uplink?” he asked his RX-24 droid who had been fervently working on trying to repair the comms that controlled the slave circuitry with his StarViper fighter.

“I’m working as fast as I can sir. There I think I’ve fixed it, however sir, it’s very possible this uplink is not stable.”

Stable or not, Rane knew that his ships needed to hang in the fight long enough to ensure that the freighters didn’t make the jump to hyperspace.

“Good enough for me. Engage, Medic! Engage!”

Tex closed his metaphorical eyes for the moment, entrusting the Twins with feeding him data from the scanners. Instead he rerouted power from processing those visuals and reactionaries to instead connect and intercalate disparate parts of his programming, trying to further enmesh his security, battle and piloting droid programming to concoct manoeuvres from experiential data and theoretical inputs from the combined strategies of that he had been outfitted with and built upon. He imagined this was what organics meant when they referred to situations as flying by the seat of their pants. No sooner could he come up with a stratagem that he was trying it in practise. As he did so he focused on not flying into anything else and so far seemed to be outwitting any shots fired their way since taking the first few glancing hits. However this hampered his ability to come up with the next plan of attack but, he would be damned if he didn’t get at least one more attack run in.

Xerxes pulled away from the convoy, jinking and juking in as random a fashion as he could contrive as he reassessed his situation. He had realised that there were other Force users here, but hadn’t comprehended what that meant. He was currently shielded from their senses so he wouldn’t be identified as one of them but, his senses were especially sharp. His Master Rhys had made similar comment and his ability in regards to sensing had advanced significantly quicker than any other. This was also a weakness, the very same weakness that had driven him to get training in the first place and although he doubted that outburst of chaotic energy so suffused with emotion was actually meant to be an attack he had still overreacted to it. He pulled himself back in and dove back into the melee taking another perpendicular strafing run taking pot shots at any enemy that crossed his path as a means to sow confusion and slow the convoy while he tried to figure out how to best attack the freighters once more.

Medic beeped frantically in response to Rane’s command. Rane hoped the droid was working to get the StarViper’s slaved fire controls on board in hopes that the smaller starfigher might be able to its targeting info to Rane’s somewhat larger Firespray.

As he waited for a firing solution, Rane unleashed a hail of blaster bolts on the ship that chased after Buggie without avail. As he continued to chase, Medic perked up and alerted Rane to a new issue at hand.

“What do you mean they’re going to light speed?”

Rane wasn’t necessarily looking to edge on the fight, but allowing the ships to run to hyperspace, especially the bulk freighters with their full cargos was not an acceptable option to him at this point in the game. Switching over again to comms, he radioed the small raiding fleet.

“The Sith are getting away! Disable those bulk freighters before they can make the jump into hyperspace!!!”
