‘Scanning the area for hostiles’ ‘turrets are running hot, stopping counter fire for the moment’ ‘Battle damage at current is minimal’ “Good let’s keep it t’at way then shall…” BBBZZZTTT. Sparks flew over the control panel in front of Tex for a moment, not that it mattered much. He wasn’t as reliant on physical inputs as normal pilots and neither did the low voltage sparks cause him any discomfort but what they meant didn’t change because of that fact. “What was t’at” he demanded of the twins via their link. ‘Shield fluctuations from multiple strikes meant I was trying to compensate to maintain, unfortunately we took a glancing shot off the hull as one punched through the weakened shields.’ ‘Damage in, we’ve not gotten any breach in the hull but a cascading short has caused havoc on the cockpit controls.’ “Kid ain’t going ta be hap’y ta hear t’at, he’ll blame himself fa the weakness.” ‘Unfortunately Master is the one to blame here, it’s a known flaw in his design that he’s trying to rectify’ ‘Captain said it was low priority as he was trying to ensure other functions were maintained and that if anything bad happened he’d trust you, Scrap and us to make sure we fly straight while he fixed it.’ “’onestly t’at Kid I swear he puts taa much trust in us sometimes.” ‘No need to hide the contentment you feel at that, we can both sense it in you when we’re connected like this.’ “Yea’, Yea’ how’s the Kid doing anyway” he mused to himself as he scanned the sensor panels to once more take appraisal of the situation.

Xerxes had taken to making zigzagging runs over the foremost transport taking quick shots at potential defence instalments. He couldn’t risk another showy run like the one he had aborted and he didn’t trust himself 100% not to be swayed by the force once more. So for now he was trying to weaken the defences of the prey, harrying it like a pack animal to allow another stronger member of the hunting party to come in and go for the throat so to speak. He just hoped what he was doing as enough.

Buggie juked his starship to the left, just as a burst of laser cannon fire shot past him. As he corkscrewed his ship away from the fire, his Helix-class light interceptor passed by one of the escort craft, hot under pursuit by Jynkyns' StarViper-class attack platform. Buggie knew from the communications that he had received from DeCola that his Firespray was pursing the Sith on his tail, which prevented Jynkyns from momentarily breaking off to rescue him, as the firing solution that Jynkyns had would have put DeCola in risk of catching any fire that missed its mark. All these thoughts flashed through Buggie's mind in an instant, as he continued his weaving evasive pattern. If he would have had a moment to dwell on his situation, he would have found it ironic that Jynkyns wasn't willing to take that risk, while DeCola was blasting away with laser cannons and no targeting computer, which meant that Buggie was just as likely as his pursuer to catch a stray bolt with all of his maneuvering.

The call was repeated over the comm for the raiders to disable the transports. As Buggie accelerated toward the transports, he could already see the friendly YT-2000 hammering them with its lower turret. Buggie didn't know if he could make it to the transports with the enemy on his tail, but perhaps the friendly turret could convince his pursuer to peel off.

"Heading that way!" Buggie called, as laser cannon fire flashed around him.

How much more can those transports take? Buggie wondered, as he kept the enemy freighters within sight of his cockpit viewport.

He had been harried the entire time by the enemy, but Buggie was nearly in range of the transports. As his fingers danced along the shipboard controls, Buggie dropped his starship down, nearly into the fire being levied against the enemy freighters by the YT-2000. His ship crossed through the line of fire by the friendly YT-2000's turret, a maneuver that nearly dared his pursuer to follow. As his Helix-class light interceptor twisted around the friendly stream of fire, Buggie then punched the thrusters and cut right, slicing a path between the heavy transports. Feeling the inertial compensator struggle against the maneuver, Buggie hoped that the ship's equipped Arakyd LBE flight control computer, which contained programming that prevented any maneuver that would cause the ship to tear itself apart, was fully functional. Darkness began to fade into the corners of his multifaceted eyes, but the starship held true, and Buggie found himself blocked off from any pursuit by way of the large freighters.

Buggie's ship shot out from between the freighters and passed by a small starfighter that was reminiscent of a Kamino saberdart. The unusual ship was beginning its attack run, swooping in where Buggie had once been.

"Lost my pursuit," Buggie announced, "I'm now beginning my attack run on those freighters."

Buggie began to wheel around to reorient himself behind the enemy transports. His hope was that by targeting the enemy freighters' engines, he could force their hand and make them dump their cargo before their ships were rendered entirely disabled.

"Heavy fire zone developing around these freighters!" Buggie called, though anyone could see it for themselves.

The final act of this raid had commenced, and all parties were either preying on the freighters or, in the case of whatever brave or foolhardy escorts remained, were trying to buy the freighters enough time to escape. If the freighters escaped, they would no doubt be headed further into the Gordian Reach, where even the most courageous pirate would think twice before plotting a course. As Buggie popped off a few shots before he came under fire from one of the remaining escort craft, he hoped that the raiding craft armed with ion cannons had been putting them to good use. One call to the sector fleet would turn this raid on its ear in no time. In fact, this raid had dragged on long enough that the escorts that fled previously could already be at the nearest system checkpoints reporting to the local patrols. Even if the freighters dumped their loads of cargo, there was no guarantee that the raiders would be able to claim all of the precious cargo before enemy reinforcements started to arrive with weapons ready.

"Let's wrap this party up and get those freighters disabled. They've probably already called for help, so let's get the cargo and go!" Buggie reminded his allies as he came around for another pass, eyes warily scanning the scopes for enemy escorts.

As Rane had hammered away at the fighter that had been trailing Buggie, it seemed that the sheer volume of somewhat inaccurate fire was enough to get the fighter to break off its pursuit. With that matter settled, Rane then took up his place amongst the ships that had once more refocused their efforts on the freights.

“Moving to block any exits!”

Rane knew that if he could position his ship in between the freighters and any calculated exit vectors, that he would cut them off from escape. Traveling through hyperspace wasn’t like being some farm boy dusting crops. Without precise calculations the freighters could fly right through a star or bounce too close to a supernova and that'd end their trip real quick. Rane hoped the scheme would work and that he would soon be able to reap the benefits of being a participant in the well-coordinated attack.

Xerxes peeled away from the concentrated firestorm now being poured onto the freighters to join another craft in blocking off the likely jump point in an attempt to force the actions V’s to weather the storm longer. “Scrap is the warhead reprogrammed yet” an indignant blurt of binary whistles from the astromech droid told him he was asking a stupid question. The second warhead had been switched over to a timer detonation rather than proximity. “In that case get me a firing solution on the bridge” a tweedle of affirmation told him Scrap was already working on it. He didn’t know how effective this would be much he wasn’t fool enough to believe he’d be able to get a good hit in but, he was hoping to use the warhead to physically blind the ship for a split second. The idea was to disable the rockets on the missile and just allow the propulsion from its ejection from the fighter’s tube as it headed towards the freighter to launch it to the enemy and have it explode close to the bridge, hopefully undetected having been launched dark to give them a fright but, he had no idea if it would work or not. He kicked the Mytil Starfighter back whipping out of the engagement zone as fast as he could to loop back in as Scrap sent him the coordinate and timings he’d have to follow. “Here’s hoping luck is on our side this evening” he murmured as he pulled back into the attack run but, he had to abort before starting as he took a spray of fire from an escort that had decided to follow his apparent retreat. Cursing he pulled off and cancelled the attack instead getting pulled into a twisting dogfight with the escort trying keeping it busy while his fellow pirates completed their tasks.

Sometime before the raid...

The blue clouds of hyperspace began to bleed sapphire into bright white starfall moments before the YT-2400 light freighter The Sunflower's viewscreen was filled with the view of a derelict space station floating in random orbit. They were within an inconscpicouous sector, coming in for an inconscpicuous task.

Assembling a crew.

While Ashara was formally a member of Buggie's crew, she had been assembling her own team of ragtags for a while now. Even the Blue Stars had an heirarchy, and even though Ashara loved Buggie and loved serving under him, she still wanted to move up the ranks eventually and so, she had been assembling a team of her own for a while now.

Ever since the incident at Ord Mantell actually.

The YT-2400 light freighter The Sunflower docked at the derelict space station, a pitstop til her rendevouz with Captain Buggie at Yavin Prime.

Sometime before the raid...

Captain Jek Sparro was perturbed.

On the one hand, the Captain of the Black Corusca wanted to be nothing more than that, for therein lay his entire honour and glory and reputation that he had amassed over the past decade or so: he was the Captain of the Black Corusca. He would always be the Captain of the Black Corusca. His darling. His baby. His dreamboat.

On the other hand... he had no Black Corusca.

The ship had been stolen by none other than his once wingmate and First Mate, Hektorr Blacklek, in the infamous 'mutiny of the Black Corusca'. Not a very nice tale to tell, at least not from Jek's perspective.

So his only option had been this Ashara Rys person. She needed a crew. He needed a ship. Granted, the only ship she had to provide, at present, was a YT-2400 light freighter. Not really Captain Jek Sparro's style. But the two had met, and struck a deal, and the Nautolan had been offered by Ashara a chance to reclaim the Black Corusca. She had the Force, she was one of Captain Buggie's First Mates, and she had Lieutenant Pyke of the Blue Star Pirates of all people willing to be her First Mate.

And Captain Hektorr Blacklek, being of the Red Key Raiders, was one of her sworn enemies.

Yes... he could use her. The only question would be deciding who could actually captain the Black Corusca in the end once Ashara had procured it with Jek's help. Ashara needed Sparro's connections. Sparro needed Ashara's ship and influence.

Yes. This deal could work, the Nautalan thought as he twirled a tentacle around his finger.

"'Ere she comes, Jek!" Gybbs' voice snapped him out of his musing, his decision made.

"Let her dock, assemble the men!" Captain Jek Sparro ordered, and Gybbs nodded, running across the docking bay to do as told. Apparently, Captain Jek Sparro's once infamous crew - the loyal ones who had been marooned on Jabiim alongside him, anways - would now be serving as Captain Ashara Rys' own nakama. The settlement was temporarily, Jek had reassured him, but as far as Jucaymi Gybbs was concerned, it might as well be permanent.

Captain Jek Sparro needed to get out of the delusion that he would get to be a real captain anytime soon, aye.

Sometime before the raid

The boarding lamp lowered as Ashara Rys and Qui-Gon Pyke descended it onto the docking bay of Jek Sparro's little hide out in the Unknown Regions. The coordinates were unfindable unless provided; Sparro had been at this for some time, and he had plenty to offer. Ashara only hoped he wouldn't try any funny business, but for the most part the Nautolan seemed quite dependable.

"Greetings, Mademoiselle," the Nautolan engaged in the usual false pleasantries, taking Ashara's hand and kissing its back.

Ashara sighed. "Dae ye have the men?" she questioned.

Jek Sparro simply smirked and bobbed his head aside.

Ashara's eyes widened.

Those were quite a few men. And women. And droids. And a child too.

"At your service, my lady," Jek's beady black Nautolan eyes narrowed over, while his face retained the smirk. "Just remember, I'm still the Captain. This is a partnership, not a service," he stressed.

Pyke smirked. "Of course it is." Sarcasm was literally dripping from his voice.

Jek glared at Pyke.

Pyke smirked back.

"Awright, awright, we're on a schedule here, c'mon ye wee scunners!" Ashara shouted before signalling everyone to ascend the boarding ramp, which they did, one by one. "Captain Buggie be awaitin', ye ken!" she hurried them all up into the YT-2400 light freighter, before being the last to ascend the ramp herself, behind Pyke and Sparro.

Time to get to Captain Buggie. She only hoped the fun hadn't started without her.

5/10

Ashara Rys and her ragtag crew were now once again amidst the blue clouds of hyperspace.

The once deserted YT-2400 light freighter The Sunflower was now filled with an actual crew. The freighter itself was obviously not a capital ship, and, hence, did not need more than two people to function. The crew was, in fact, for whatever capital ship that would eventually become Ashara's own, once she ascended to Captaincy. Per the pirate code, that seemed like it would happen sooner rather than later.

Especially now that the new directives - the same ones that had reached Master Buggie - had been received by Pyke and deencrypted for her.

"Haud yer wheesht 'n' listen up ye wee scunners!" Ashara shouted over the noise behind her. The congested cockpit - hosting five people in addition to her when it really didn't have space for more than four, quietened down at the sound of her voice.

"Our orders are tae join Captain Buggie and assist raidin' a shipment of tibanna gas from deep within the Gordian Reach!" she explained.

Silence.

"Ain't that deep within Sith space?" a purple-skinned female Twi'lek that Ashara had yet to put a name to spoke up.

"Aye it is. Anyone o' ye feelin' like chickenin' out, can get outtae the airlock this instant!"

Needless to say, no one spoke again, though a few audible gulps could be heard.
