Staff Announcements (Updated February 17th, 2024)

The staff have a few announcements to make with consideration to recent happenings on the site and with the Beta SLIU. Some of these are new, some of these are rules that have been in effect for a while now and should not come as a surprise. With the introduction of Discord, the staff have found that it's becoming a bad habit for us to discuss things in the general Discord chat and forget to make a corresponding announcement on the forum, where these things should be clearly posted. Since this problem has reared its head a few times, we're going to work to make sure that the Temple is still the place to go to refer to staff announcements.
With that being said, I wanted to reiterate a rule that has been in effect since about August of last year; no describing an item, ship, or piece of equipment as something in RP and then substituting it for something similar into the generator. For example, if I wanted to use a Mandalorian Ripper in RP and then, when the time comes to generate a battle, use a Westar-34, that would not be allowed. Generations must use SLIU equipment, and if you are not using that specific piece of equipment in the thread, you may not use it in the generation. The simple reason for this is that it causes confusion for those that you're RPing with, may grant an unfair advantage to the person using the "special" piece of equipment (ex. Mandalorian Rippers can bypass Personal Shield Generators), and that weapon or piece of equipment may show up in the SLIU3 update. Jay has the burden of balancing over one hundred weapons for black market or regular store use. Those weapons will have their own attack values, and the process of substitution serves to undermine that complex and time consuming endeavor. What you can do to make sure that your favorite blaster makes it into the game is send a suggestion to the staff and we'll add it to our list.
Somewhat related, I'm sure many of you have heard that modifications to weapons, equipment, and ships are going to be a part of SLIU3. What this means is that you may not implement any sort of performance modifications to your weapons, equipment, and ships until those modifications become available on the SLIU. That's something that Jay is going to have to balance himself, and I can guarantee you that if you RP your TIE Fighter as having powerful shields and and extra laser cannon, you're not going to have that modification grandfathered in once the modifications system is implemented.
The next rule has long been in place, but the system for notifying the staff has not been kept up. If you share a PC with someone else or if someone living with you also has an account, you must notify the staff. The forum has been sending e-mails about users sharing IP addresses for a while now, and most of the time, a simple search reveals that it's just a new account referred to Sithlore by a longstanding veteran of the site. It saves us a lot of time if you just tell us that your girlfriend or roommate created an account on the site. Remember, there's a strict one character policy on Sithlore, but if you let us know that you've got a roommate or significant other that plays on the site, we can make accommodations for that.
That's all we've got for now. Please post any questions or concerns below and we will address them.
