That's not good

Post by Rhys Redmane » Fri May 28, 2021 11:13 pm

A tiny speck, a ship no bigger then an apartment. Hurtling through the endless void at unimaginable speed. And the pilot, a Kathar with red and blonde fur, was taking a catnap, or at least he was.

"Hyperspace Tunnel Stability is dropping.
"Rhys!    Wake up! Something is w..w.rong"
A tinny voice with a slight British accent screamed with all the concern it could muster.

I-19 was an older droid to be sure, and patchworked together from other scrapped droids, A golden arm here. A welding attachment there.. But he was a good droid, and the only companion Rhys had.

Rhys groggily opened an eyelid and saw the beauty of hyperspace in front of him, Which would normally be fine, except he never signed off on one. "I-9 Why are we jumping, how many systems have we passed while I was asleep?"

" 19 and counting... Something has overridden all navigation systems I caNnnnnn--t stop...bebob..three top mep mop." His normally stable voice became chaotic and warbled as the tin can of a ship started to shake.

*Good great my only company has started to ramble on. This had just gone from bad to worse*

The Empire had been sending patrols throughout its space comprised of forces not yet assigned to fleets for defense or offense. One of these patrols contained a brand new ASSD, right off the line and patrolling deep imperial space.

The ship was just west of Mandalorians space, observing the passing of ships through the hyper lanes when it discovered a single vessel, soaring through hyperspace away from any charted course.

“Unknown vessel, this is Imperial Allegiance class 11873. Is everything alright? You seem to be moving wildly through hyperspace.” One of the lieutenants on board the bridge messaged to the ship, hoping it gets the message before it shoots itself into a star. It wasn’t the empire’s place to stop rogue ships, but one flying in a random direction could possibly lead to a more pressing discovery...

Rhys had never experienced this many jumps one after another. After this long, things were starting to get weird. He looked behind him and saw flashes of himself pacing through the cabin, Talking to himself.
Singing admittedly poorly, the viewscreen showing a wider view of the crack in space time. .

Tinting a bit of sickly purple... But not exactly he wishes there was a word for it. Then he recalls the dead drop sitting in the hidden hold. Rhys picked it up from the agreed stash point. The other pilot who left it was long gone, but that kind of thing was normal practice. Made ops harder to track.

It was sealed in black, he was only told not to open it and given its next destination of Narshada. But after loading it and hiding it away, he put The ship in dark mode to sleep before the haul.

Below him the comms light started blinking, but getting to the panel may be, tricky to say the least.

"I-19! What are our options buddy, I know the whole inability to sleep may be wearing on you... But I could use some input here."

They had been here a better part of a day, the Kings entrusted with the recovery of something strange. It was a thing the Dark Council wanted, and that somehow they would know would be arriving here, around this rogue planetoid of a gravity barely strong enough to be detected by navicomputers. They had to make a series of incredibly short jumps between hyperspace beacons off the Perlemian. Their sensors were silently, ridiculously dead. Hey, maybe the Dark Council decided that they didn't want the Kings anymore, so they were sending them off piecemeal into the void to go mad and eat each other.

The Chief had her helmet on, but the visor open. Had to be ready to go, but she was reclined in the commander's seat in the cockpit of the ATR-6. The pilot was regularly checking the sensors, nearly tearing their hair out at the frustration of cold, unholy nothing. When the blip appeared, the pilot nearly ignored it, convincing themself that they had simply imagined it. But it didn't go away, and the Chief saw it too.

"Hey, looks like the creeps knew right after all," Emic said, standing up and calling to the crew. "Ready up, boots! Pilot approach, the rest of you, prepare to board!"

Known to that freighter or not, something wicked this way came. It was on that scrapper's boat, and the Kings were there to get it back.

With no reply from the ship, and the triangulated course setting it towards deep GA space, the captain of the ASSD frantically got a message to the defense force near the border with the Alliance.

“This is Allegiance Class 11873, requesting any Gravity well generators in the area. There appears to be a rogue ship about to jump towards Alliance space, we need to stop it. Cargo and crew unknown, but the ship has reportedly been jumping wildly around the mid-rim.”

There was but one gravity well generator, near the dockyards of Kuat.

“Copy that. Gravity well generators are preparing activation, will monitor for this rogue ship.” The words came over the comm.

In relief, the captain moved to the navigators, ordering them to follow that ship towards Kuat. When it jumped, the captain could only hope the Gravity Well generator would be up and running, and they could rip the runner from hyperspace and board it before it did end up jumping into something solid.

The pirate captain patiently awaited further report of the cargo freighter. As the genderless sentient reptile gazed through the main viewport of the Besh-class facility under the command, they idly felt a pang of regret for the pilot or pilots at the helm of the transport that had been hired to ferry the precious cargo. This was not the first time that the Blue Star Pirates had covertly tampered with a ship's hyperdrive in order to scramble the true destination where valuable cargo needed to be delivered. Occasionally, the volatile jumps through lightspeed would render the unfortunate pilot mad with a condition popularly known by spacers as hyper-rapture. This was all an acceptable cost in exchange for maintaining the safety and security of the Blue Star Pirates' operations.

Had things always been this way? The pirate captain attempted to recall just what had set about the near-obsession with security within the criminal organization. Of course, their second personality reminded them, it was the destruction of the underwater facility on Nejdiv, which resulted in the deaths of thousands, including the families, women and children among them, of hundreds of Blue Star Pirates and associates. How could anyone forget?

A technician whose responsibility it was to track the wayward starship now spoke from her station, which consisted of a transparent panel with the galactic map etched on it, which she probed with a sensor tool periodically. The pirate captain didn't understand how it worked; it only mattered that it did work for someone on the bridge. The ship had just passed galactic west of Mandalorian space, headed for the Perlemian.

Excellent, the captain thought to themselves with a satisfied flick of their tongue. Everything was coming together as planned.

I-19's eyes just stared at Rhys, for how long he had no idea. All he could wonder was "Will this go on forever, am am I still dreaming?" The bulkheads of the ships popped and groaned. The lights in the cockpit turned red.. And blaring it felt like the ship was being pulled in two directions at once.

Rhys quickly slipped to the cargo compartment. Looking back at his only companion through the sealing door.
"Protect the cargo... Seal the bulkhead... Hold on tight." The purple faded for an instant replaced with the normal yellow his voice sounding almost sad. "Goodbye Rhys and thank yo.."

In that instant in a sound like thunder, the ship was torn apart, Rhys and the cargo dropped into a system with no star, drawn in by a sith beacon.

While I-19 and the now fried components of the cockpit were forced out of hyperspace by imperial interdiction.

"Chief, the target ship is coming through. Well, part of it is."

"What do you mean part of it?" the Zabrak posed the question to the pilot, who was observing sensors.

"Well, according to readings its got almost half the weight it should," the pilot explained, before adding a teasing remark. "And if you'll look outside, you'll see it appears to have been torn right in half."

"What the hell?" Emic pondered. "Bring us up to its broadside. We'll seal the cockpit door against its hull and cut through. You had Karlisle inspect our oxygen recycler right?"

"Yes, Chief. We shouldn't have an incident with the air getting thin, like last time."

"Good."

The ship did not hail the floating cargo bay; after all, it likely didn't have any comms. So the Solemn Quiet just hovered next to the ship, sealed its cockpit exit against the hull, and opened. The specialists got to work cutting through the hull with plasma torches, but it would take quite a while. If there were anyone in there, they would have a lot of time to get scared. Or do something brave.

(OOC: I believe there was some confusion. If I’m not mistaken, the cargo hold and Rhys are now with the Sith while the Cockpit and droid pilot continued until the imperial Gravity Well generator stopped it. Please let me know if I’m mistaken)
