Artifacts of a lost era

There were a lot of self-aggrandizing figures involved in the plentiful squabbling factions within The Galaxy. What began as the start of something new, would surely become what was intended to have been solved. That was the way of things. The Galaxy moved in needless cycles of war, death, rebirth, and repeat. Though unlike some stories- progress is always lost along the way. Then they come along. Someone (or several someones) always thinks they can do better, create something more meaningful- pave a way for better futures.
It was all hubris.
--Somewhere in the Galactic Southwest--
A wedge-shaped corvette tore from hyperspace outside of a wheel and spoke- shaped fueling station, and slowly crept toward it's destination.
On the bridge, an exhausted figure covered in a black cloak stood staring out the wide viewpanes behind the pilot and copilot of the ship. Quiet blips, and a low rumbling white-noise filled the otherwise silent affair, as they all watched on. The figure reached over and patted the back of the pilot's seat, and they turned to exit.
Marching through a dimly lit black and polished-white hallway, the figure's full helmet reflected some of the lights fluorescence as they passed. They were greeted several meters away by a tall near reptilian-looking alien wearing a gray tunic with black armor plates accenting the shoulders, arms, and legs. It bowed it's head with closed eyes, and spoke as the cloaked figure approached.
"Master, we have found some surprising leads. One of the Practical teams may have recovered something." The alien's voice was masculine, and flanged. As if two were speaking at once, in similar deep tones.
They continued walking together, as the alien matched the cloaked figure's march.
"Once we are finished refueling, speak with Commander Reaves. Plot a course for their pickup." The cloaked figure's voice was also masculine through the helmet's vocoder. Hollow, young, business-like.
"They were last heard from near the Yavin system."
They both rounded a corner, passing two black armored soldiers, who stepped aside at attention while the two passed.
"Good. Travel on the Perlimian will make things easy." The man stated as he turned and slid his heels together, stopping their walk near a trapezoidal doorway. "As you were, Vulnus. Keep me updated if anything else comes in."
"Of course, master." The alien bows after being dismissed and walks through the nearby doorway as the door hisses open, revealing a circular room with a few crew standing at nodes.
The cloaked figure continues their march through the internals of the ship in silence, going down a turbolift and exiting to another black floored, white-walled hallway. Their boots rap lightly along as they reach a door that requires a passcode entry. A black-gloved hand reaches out and punches in a series of buttons before the lock ignites green, and hisses open.
The room inside was dark metal with spartan furniture. Though on one corner was a large communicator pad. A white circle amid otherwise drab colorless dark environment. A nearby node flickered to life, and a light blipped off and on occasionally. The figure stepped into the room , and the door hissed closed behind them, the lock flashing 'red' again.
The hooded figure went to the node and pressed the lit button, and a figure on the communicator fizzled upward to life in light pale blue hologram- the figure of a very familiar individual... They spoke in an uncharacteristically pleased tone.
"Ah. Dastan. It has been some time..."
It was all hubris.
