Another Town, Another Train. (Corp Sector. Roonadan. So Imps?)

Post by Remi Bayer » Sun Nov 25, 2018 11:01 pm

You find yourself alone on a train.

“Apt, as usual, dear.” Remi Bayer spoke quietly, gently rocking with the motions of the aforementioned train, in her hand a magazine.

The noxious thickness of the industrial fog seems to caress the glass.

“It is rather miserable, I will admit.” she flicked to the next page after a cursory glance out the window.

Dark jagged spires can barely be seen in the distance, as the dying sun struggles to make headway through the oppressive grey.

“While I appreciate that you’re bored, I would have expected you to put some effort into your scene setting. Oppressive grey?” she tutted, flicked another page.

The Train Conductor listens awkwardly as you talk to yourself.

“I beg your pardon?”

He clears his throat again and says…

“Ticket please, miss?” Bayer snapped her eyes up at him, a flash of blue tinged with disorientation and then a flowing smile.

It is at this point you realise you left your ticket in the Varlo City station ‘Fresher.

She checked, patted the pockets of her jacket, awkwardly reached an arm into the more discreet inward pockets as well and then her trousers. Her painted lips pressed into a thin power blue line and she cast her gaze to the only carriage beyond.

Decisions, Decisions. Hmm?

“You really are getting on my last nerve…” she huffed in frustration.

“I’m sorry mi-”

“Not you!” Remi snapped as her pistol rose up and fired a bolt through the underside of the conductors jaw. She was on her feet and in the aisle before his body flopped onto the rodian passenger in the seat opposite. “Excuse me!” she yelled as the expected commotion of noise and panic began to fill the carriage.

“You!” her blaster sent a flare of orange with surprising accuracy, she thought, toward the door control panel at the far end of the carriage. “Are being very rude!” It sparked and sizzled, and the passengers that had ideas of fleeing found themselves trapped.

“I feel like I’m stating the obvious here but for the hell of the thing it should be known that this is a robbery!” she pointed at the upraised pistol for emphasis. “If you’ll be so kind as to turn out your pockets of jewelry, small change, and anything else you feel worth less than your life we can get this over with and be on our merry way.”

They don’t seem to be getting the message, Rem.

“Well, what more can I do? I just shot a poor man in the face.” the eyes of the potentially robbed were well and truly on her now.

Give it a minute. Always one.

“One what?” a human, could have been 30’s or 40’s launched from his seat, his hand dipping toward the blaster slung low on his hip.

One him.

Remi fired like her blaster was on a hair trigger, the bolt caught him in the shoulder and she fired again, advancing up the aisle. This one took him square in the chest and he went down.

“He.” the blaster flared “Tried.” a bolt thudded into the lifely corpse. “To.” another for good measure. “Shoot.” now she was over him, point blank and the smell of ozone and charred flesh was palpable as her finger continued to pump the trigger. “Me!” one final bolt, her heart racing with the adrenaline spike, and then she caught herself. Embarrassed for a moment, she took a calming breath and composed herself.

“Did I forget to say please?”

You did forget to say please.

“Rude.” Remi chidded herself and then turned to face her captive audience. “Would you please give me all of your valuables?” she slipped her free hand into her inner jacket pocket and produced two medium sized sack bags. “Deposit. Pass. Simple as that dears.”

"Approaching target."
Prazutis stated blankly, walking to the train platform of which the target, a hijacked public transport, was headed towards. The one good thing about these types of crimes, is that they moved predictably. There were no turns, there was no chance of escape. At least not without heavy attention.
Prazutis had been merely passing the time when he was alerted to a homicide and armed robbery near him, and was directed to the station, now filled with security and in the process of citizen evacuation, waiting for the train to make its way there. Prazutis clenched his mechanical fist, sighing and making sure the ends of his gauntlet were sharp as he saw the train far into the distance, narrowing his eyes.
"Target approaching." He spoke, patiently waiting for the train to pass through the terminal.

"Thank you." Remi smiled moving down the aisle as the bags were filled with loot. "You're all gems, I really can't stress that enough."

Tick, Tock.

"Quite right." she said, snatching up both sacks and then stuffing one into the other. "Don't let this experience sully your view of public transport. It is the most economical and environmentally friendly way to go in this day and age." with that she turned, thumbed the door panel behind her and found herself standing in a dockingesque tunnel which connected with the muscle of the train. Before her another door, but unlike the rest was restricted in access.

Can't have the small folk or potential robbers waltzing on through.

"Not something i'd do," she said, bending over to examine the control panel before holstering her blaster. She slipped a laser cutter from a fold in her jacket, and set it to work on the outer casing which took a few seconds and then a set of needle nosed cutters snapped away at the mess of wires within. She twiddled a set together, set them back inside the box, punched the release and shielded her face when sparks spat from the panel.

Open sesame.

There wasn't a sentient driver in the cabin. Just a bank of monitors and panels. Automation was always at a premium for menial tasks. She cast her eye around, found the emergency carriage release and set them to decouple from the head of the snake. A hydraulic clunk and hiss from beyond the door told her that was done.

"Are there any track splits we can manipulate from here?" Bayer asked as she scanned the trains automated route.

Thats a big negative on that one rubber ducky.

"Well we cant slow down, those carriages will just slam into us and I think those poor people have suffered quite enough."

Pedal to the metal?

"Only seems sensible!" she grinned with a clap of her hands and set about disabling the simple automation that made the train slow and stop at each assigned station. Her hands danced over the control board and she felt a lurch as the train began to pick up speed.

So what do we do now?

"I hadn't thought that far ahead. Its a coin-flip between death at speed or escape at speed."

I like those odds, Rem.

Prazutis' eyes widened as he watched the front of the train slowly leave the rest of it behind. He had to make a decision now, either focus on stopping the back and letting the culprit, who he assumed would be trying to escape in the front, or go for the culprit and let the passengers ride the train until physics made it stop on its own.
The front came careening through the station
Prazutis made his decision.
Balling up the energy in his legs, he exploded from the train station, matching speed with the train's head and sending a wall of telekinetic force behind him, both slightly propelling him forward to the door of the engine and jolting the passenger cars, not enough to stop them but enough to slow the rest of the train to a managable speed, so that if it hits a curve ahead, there's no chance of it tipping over... unlike this car he now entered, throwing open the door and bringing his lightsaber into his hand, the blood red blade igniting. This was nothing but a petty thief, but if it was someone who had already killed one person, then they were willing to do it again.

I think that man has a lightsaber.

Remi spun, clocked the contained beam of plasma and immediately threw up her hands.

"I do believe, you are right dear." she said quietly as said plasma sword wielding chap made his way into the engine of the beast.

Tread softly with this one.

"Don't I always?"

There are questionable occ-

"Right! I get it." Remi huffed, hands still firmly raised in the face of cauterized death. "The chances of calling this a totall misunderstanding are...?"

Prazutis only stared at this woman a moment, hearing her words. She killed a man in cold blood, took hostage a large group of civilians, but now faced with an adversary... she merely gives up like this?

Before he spoke back, he reached out with the force... her blaster... the energy, triggered by the trigger with which she now held a finger over. Usually, he would simply hold the trigger back. But with such speed that this train was going, he didn't care to hold his focus on it.
Rather, he sensed the wires moving from the trigger to the energy cell. With a quick brush of his fingers, the wires were pressed together and almost crushed, making the blaster useless without sparking or otherwise making the fact known to the holder of said weapon. It wouldn't stay that way, but for a while, that blaster was mere scrap.
And with that fact, Prazutis smiled.
"Was it such that it costed a man his life?" Prazutis said, walking forward.
"I'm not sure how you view the inquisitors of the empire, but I will personally explain. We are usually fighting with force users, large groups, and large threats to the empire,"
Prazutis walked forward, his blade brushing the ground, the hiss of the plasma burning the metal quietly ringing out around them.
"And at least in my case... not many who face us live to tell the story. Whether they fight back... or not."

"A man?" utterly innocent.

The man you shot he means, although you did shoot two so I'm not entirely sure which one he means.

"Oh that one!" whatever Remi Bayer was, she wasn't suicidal. Unhinged, yes, possibly schizophrenic..who could say but she wasnt in any frame of crazy to stare such a committed individual in the eye and make with the smack talk.

SMACK TALK HIM REM.

"I don't view them at all sir. Until yourself I always felt the ISB to be the lowest ranking, In a low ranking division of super secret peoples."

Not that much smack talk...

The saber wielding manic kept speaking and Remi, for her part nodded.

"I do tell such marvelous stories. Honestly, at the children s home? Bedtime stories? Me. Top Brass. 100%. Can't be beat."

Prazutis thought a moment, his smile fading from behind the iron helmet he donned. Was this woman mad? She dared to talk down to someone like Prazutis?
"Well... you can tell all the stories you want in the next life!"
with that, his lightsaber raised and swung with a mighty force, Prazutis measuring in an instant and making sure that his swing wouldn't hit the control terminal behind her. The last thing they needed was this thing going any faster or being any more out of control...
As he thought this, his blade raised, Prazutis' sight aimed to hit the woman's hip and slice the sentient in half, if she be so unaware as to stand still for the blow. But even if she were to dodge, he shifted most of his weight into the blow in order to jump up and attack again, although it wouldn't be a lethal shot, of course.

Ah. He's one of those baddies.

"The cringey kind?"

Exactly. Now up or under?

Remi answered by dipping down and turning rapidly on her heels with her back against the console. The saber blade claimed a few strands of dark hair atop her head and, her squatting pirouette complete, she came back to her feet just as Neive rose from the metal flooring underfoot.

Well, that was just silly. Jumping in a vehicle traveling at high speed? When your enemy has the emergency break so close at hand?

Bayer got the meaning immediately and found her index finger rubbing against the conveniently placed button.

Don't forget to hold on.

Rem obliged, finding a handhold on the array of screens and control mechanisms before she smiled up at the airborne villainous cur and jabbing her finger into the emergency break activation. Now, several things happened next; Remi near lost her internal organs via the soles of her feet -such was the sudden application of g-force-, she screamed several unladylike words while her body was thrown perfectly horizontal and finally she heard a pop in her shoulder and screamed.

What the jumping madman was doing during all this was his business.

Seeing the application of an emergency brake, Prazutis had to think quickly.
As the train began it's skidding deceleration, he threw his hand down, another wave of impetus pushing the front of the train forward a bit while simultaneously slowing his momentum to a degree, while shattering the glass of the front of the train. his foot repositioned and contacted the metal siding of the train, on one of the sides meant to help keep the now broken glass in place. As soon as it made contact. he made a small burst of energy with the metal, putting a dent in it and stopping his movement. The train hadn't hit a complete stop within the time however, and he ended up slamming against the back wall near the door, breathing heavily from performing the actions. He believed that he had just cheated death... perhaps. Or perhaps just serious injury. Either way, there was someone else there whom he needed to make sure didn't do the same...
Looking up, he observed the scene, grabbing onto a stability bar as he looked for the woman who had caused all this ruckus in the first place.
