The Way of the Worlds (closed, Zas)

Post by Darth Fett » Sat Sep 21, 2019 2:15 am

A tad bit longer ago in a galaxy far, far away...

Happy's Landing. That was what the faded text on the wall above Axl's head said. Not surprising, as that was the name of the establishment. It was a quaint tavern with its own sort of charm. Small, out of the way. That was also positive, as the Sith Lord did not want his dealings to be noticed by anyone who thought they were worth noticing.

He sat at an oversized booth in the corner furthest from the entrance The distressed logo behind him seemed to dance and flicker, as there was a busted ceiling lamp above him which gave alternating degrees of light. With each flicker, the deep depressions of his face became engulfed in shadow and he appeared half human, demonic, and much older.

The citizens of Druckenwell were mostly hard working, decent people. They did not ask for handouts and they did not pester those who they by all logic should not pester. Axl had found on too many other worlds, people had a tendency to get too close to danger out of a morbid curiosity. That trait more often than not lead to regret on their part, or whatever parts of them were left as the case may have been. Not the people here, though. The working class did not speak to offworlders unless spoken to. They were friendly and accommodating, just not in a hurry to disturb those who they generally oughtn't. He wished that other planets would take to their example, he wouldn't have had to work so diligently to rid his Varonat jungle of adventurers, hunters, and the plain idiotic.

The planet itself, as Axl had noted, consisted of dozens of medium sized continents sprinkled over vast oceans. It was a far cry from all of the planets on which Axl had lived, mostly land all of them. Still, he found something comforting about it. There was a great deal of balance here, a thing of which the galaxy saw little.

Axl saw, through the constantly alternating light, a figure approaching confidently. It sure as hell wasn't a local. As the approaching figure came into focus, Axl gave him a friendly nod of acknowledgement. He extended his hand to indicate that he wanted his guest to sit.

"I was beginning to wonder if you would show," he spoke slowly as the flickering light above suddenly fixed itself and illuminated them both fairly well.

"Yes, well..." Zasabi started with a smile on his face as he took the indicated seat. "How could one as I turn down an invitation from the Infamous Darth Fett. Especially after the favor you granted me, so long ago."
He kept his arms above the table, the sleeves of his long coat oddly clinking with a metallic sound as they came to rest. The reason for the clinking became apparent as he flexed his wrists, exposing the two lightsabers hidden there.
Fett would more than likely realize that this was not a threatening gesture, instead realizing the symbolic meaning of the two weapons. He had granted him permission to make those two blades back when he had first joined the Corporates, leaving him indebted to the Sith. It seemed that now would be the time to take Zas up on that debt.
"It has been a long time. How've you been?" he asked, closing his hands back toward each other and pushing the sabers back into their holsters. "I've heard much in the way of chaos and destruction lately, so business must be good," he said with a lopsided grin.

"I trust they've been kind to you?" he did not waste his words, the question doubled in meaning for both the lightsabers and the Shadow Order.

Axl's hands also remained above the table, steady and prepared. It wasn't that he distrusted Zasabi anymore than the next person, but he knew all too well that the unexpected did occur and those who left themselves open to attack deserved everything that happened to them. His father had instilled the philosophical principle of survival of the fittest in him at an early age. The key, of course, was to condition oneself into observing one's environment until it was second nature, intrinsic. Then one could learn to go about everyday life and at least appear at ease. Axl rarely seemed on edge, and for all intents and purposes he rarely was. He practiced the fine art of juggling his more relaxed, untouchable persona and his naturally heightened sense of surrounding. One could argue that those senses were what allowed him to remain so collected.

His loose dark robes concealed a great many secrets, between the deep folds were several weapons and items useful in a scrape. Included were his long, sturdy dual lightsabers, one on either side of his waist. They were not outwardly visible, but Axl did have direct access to them. Also unseen was his full body armor, minus the helmet, plated around him like a second skin. To the average onlooker, he was simply dressed and unarmed. To anyone who knew his true origin, which were a select few, every fold in fabric, every inch of space on or around him, he would utilize when the opportunity called for such.

"This isn't about repayment of debts. It's about power, it's about protection, and it's about sacrifice," he emanated an air of matter-of-factness, "and we are about to test how good business can be."

"I trust they've been kind to you?"

Zasabi's smile slightly widened. "One could say that I've found religion through them, so yes," he stated almost playfully, once again referring to not just the Lightsabers, but the Shadow Order.

He folded his arms as he listened to the Sith Lord, studying the figure carefully while he took stock of what the man was saying. He also did not come unprepared. Underneath the clothing he wore was his Mandalorian armor, hiding his lithe figure by benefit of making him look rather bulky, although the large coat minimized that in most cases. However, he also knew that no matter how much training he had endured, the Sith was simply better. It was a bit of a hard pill to swallow, but he could tell that even through the heavy robes adorning the figure's body. He would simply have to step carefully across the path of this ancient.

"Power, Protection, and Sacrifice, eh?" Zasabi asked, putting an emphasis on each word. "Well, Lord Fett, you've at least gotten me interested. What's the plan?"

"Did you know I helped to found your order?" He spoke of the matter with a reverent tonality. It was in fact true. He had aided in forming the foundation of their branch of the ancient religion. He helped to structure the group, secure funding to get it off its feet, and lead construction to make its original temple a grand sight to behold. He had taken great pride in it, yet tried little to seek recognition. Once Death had fallen from power, why would any of the others admit to Fett's involvement? He was the Dark Lord of the Sith, a man who was wrapped more in legend than fact. admitting his hand had helped to create them would be seen as a black mark by the remaining body who wished to create as much space between themselves and the Sith as possible.

This was intensified by the new direction the Shadows had taken after Death had gone. They became more docile, much like the Jedi. Only they became even more Jedi-like than the Jedi order, which had initiated rambunctious apprentices who were always in a rush to fight and had joined militarily with the New Republic Forces. The Shadows had lost their way. New more ambitious leadership was needed. That was not necessarily to say a new leader, but a new direction where they were no ones lapdog. They could then once again walk their own path, one leg in light and the other in darkness.

"We must find a way to stir the galaxy into recognizing your people for the glorious nature they once had and will once again have. They can no longer be confined to subservience."

Zasabi watched Fett carefully, the conversation having reached a dangerous valley. He would have to watch his footing, lest he mis-step into volatile territory.

"I agree that the Shadows must be seen as independent, yes, but I disagree that now is the time for a public display. We are still recouperating from the errors of leaders past, vanishing and leaving us with substandard leaders and even less purpose. If anything is to be done, it must be done subtly, as the namesake of our belief states. We cannot eradicate the life from a planet, as the Empire might, or hoist our flag onto a conquered enemy ship, as the Pirates could. We must do what we do in the darkness, away from prying eyes- and those who wish for retribution."

Zasabi looked to Darth Fett, his fingers steepling before him.

"The aggressive mindset may have worked when the Shadows were first founded, but it is a different time. We have taken too many losses to be a direct force. Dathomir-Destroyed, Sekot raped and scarred, our leaders as scattered as leaves in the wind. To act openly now is to throw away all that we have gained since those dark times."

Zasabi cleared his throat, looking to the dark man's eyes.

"If you have a plan, Lord Fett, then I will hear you out. However, if I deem that it is too risky for us to attempt, then I must, very respectfully and graciously, decline."

Zasabi was no fool. He had already begun to hear of the insanity that had resulted from the Leaders of the Shadows being Impatient. He had no wish to end up the same way.

Zasabi was no fool.

Perhaps Zasabi was more difficult to please than Axl had hoped. Still, he had anticipated, even invited some skepticism. Only a fool would jump to join someone like Fett without knowing what was in it for him.

"And what, pray tell have you gained since those times?" he asked sincerely. He had also in a way witnessed the destruction of Dathomir. About the time of the blast, he had been involved in an intense duel with Jedi Master Corran Horn, a battle which he had incidentally won. They were aboard the Death Star when it targeted the planet, and the Dark Lord watched the footage several times afterward. Although he was not crushed by the cataclysmic event, he was disappointed in a sense, over the loss of what he had helped to create. He had held out hope that the order would return to their prior code of ethics, instead their home was obliterated.

He would elaborate on his plan soon enough, he just felt the need to gage Zasabi's opinions a bit more before divulging anything too involved.
