The Wrong Path

Post by Corban Jalaar » Thu Jan 02, 2020 3:56 pm

It generally did not rain as hard as it was now, and Corban Jalaar had already regretted disembarking before reaching his destination. He had seen some gardens with an old structure in the center. It tugged at his curiosity which got the better of him, he had disembarked to take a closer look. Corellia was not normally a world known for its ancient looking structures. He approached it slowly as he did so he examined it in detail. He had studied ancient architecture while in university. A study curriculum he was on the verge of flunking out of altogether. The structure had the appearance of what was an ancient corellian building but the metals used gave it away and this was a reproduction. Corban's disappointment rose as his fascination sank. He was not going to waste any more time here. The rain was unrelenting in its assault. He was soaked through. It was time to go. He went to turn to find his way where he could get back on a tram.

Three men stood blocking him, all dressed in rags the rain showing no favor with them as they too were getting the weather's assault "Are you lost" one asked,

another one said to the speaker "Yeah he's lost" One of the men stepped forward with the other two standing behind him.

"You are on our turf, rich boy and therefore you must pay a fee"

Corban looked at the men, he was not wealthy, he had only a few credits on him. "I don't want any trouble" he said his voice a bit shakily as he felt himself in real danger as the other two had moved in behind him he was now surrounded.

Corban took out the few credits he had and offered them "This is all I got, please I don't want any trouble"

The leader of this group of thugs counted it. "This is not enough, if this is all you have then you have yourself a problem"

With that one of the thugs had pulled a lead pipe and with it struck Corban in the back. He fell on all fours, groaning as the other joined in the assault both hitting him all over with lead pipes. Corban felt helpless as the two men were beating him, he could feel the bruises forming, and a sickening crunch as one struck him around the knee. He let a howl of pain out as he knew his knee was either broken or dislocated.

"P-p-please" he pleaded he could not fend them off, despite his futile efforts. The lead thug stood over him looking down on him.

"Giving me 2 credits is an insult, an insult that must be paid" he paused as he looked at the beaten young man in front of him. "With your life but first you must learn what pain is" With that he drew a small blaster pistol and took aim

- Somewhere on Corellia -

The weather on Corellia was not at its finest, with pouring rain and slightly cold winds roaming across the landscape. Evelyn had come here for a reason however - to find her missing sister. While traveling with her Master Ben Kenobi, she had been given a lead from one of their sources. Young Miss Swann knew that she had to find her as Force Sensitives had become somewhat of a target these days. It was like a swoop race to find them and get to them before anyone else did that had bad or selfish intentions.

The Council had sent Ben out on a more dangerous mission that Evelyn herself was still training to become a part of. So still with that inexperience, she was sent elsewhere on a more less dangerous mission. This also meant that she had no contact with her Master as it could risk blowing his cover. So here on Corellia she was all by herself, with only the Force as her guide and aid.

The young lady was soaked in these weather conditions, but she didn't really care much. She had her task to think of and to complete her task at hand, Evelyn let her connection to the Force stay wide open. This was to help her find her sister. As a Force Sensitive, her string of life through the Force shined differently from the rest. So she followed the glowing thread that worked as a beacon. After several hours of walking, Swann stopped abruptly to feel what the Force was trying to tell her. Tremors in the Force could be felt as the glowing string began to get dimmer. Oh no you don't! She shouted out in her mind before she began to run. Something was wrong. With these clues, she could only imagine that the Force Sensitive meaning her sister, was in grave danger for whatever reason. She had to hurry.

Merely minutes after she had the feeling of danger, she could sense as well as see figures further ahead, this was her cue. There were four people, humans like herself, all males. No sign anywhere of her sister, but the Force had led her there to find a Force Sensitive. Was the lead about her sister wrongly given? Blinking rapidly, she snapped out of it to look at her options. One was severely beaten lying on the ground helplessly as the three others had surrounded him holding weapons. Two with lead pipes and one with a blaster pistol. She had her vibrosword with her as well as her own blaster pistol. She would be able to defend herself well enough with the aid of the Force and her skills. The man with the pistol seemed to want to do further harm upon their defenseless victim, and Evelyn wanted to interrupt. She had learned to control her emotions since Kashyyyk, and knew that this was not a natural cause of events happening. This was someone in need of help. "I would not do that if I were you!" She shouted out to the thugs looking people as she approached slowly but giving off an aura of danger towards the thugs as they could not see her face. Her Jedi robes and hood had cloaked her identity, so for all they knew she could be anyone. "You all three do realize that what you are doing right now is quite illegal, right?"

Coming to a stop a good ten feet away from them, she revealed her own weapons that were hidden underneath her robes. "You now have two options, or rather a choice for that matter.... Either you leave right now, and leave this young man alone... Or..." She then drew her blaster pistol aiming it right at the leader, her aim being at his hand wielding the weapon ready to shoot it out of his hand if he tried to pull the trigger. "You will have to deal with me, and I will be sure to drag all of you to the local authorities... Your choice."

Separation was in truth part of her training. To show not only her Master but herself that she was fully capable of operating quietly on her own and in a safe and suitable manner for a Jedi Padawan. Even then being deployed to a high profile world such as Corellia which was near the Imperial-Alliance border was risky. She would have to be careful and avoid over playing her hand in the open for a lone Jedi Padawan would surely be a target to a great many persons of interest these days. Even though Ben Kenobi wouldn't be far, he would be unable to attend to great issues of immediate peril should she find herself in one whilst he dealt with the pressing matters at hand; the Underworld of Corellia was the opposite of its beautiful and modern appearing surface. It was a dark lair of criminal scum and back room cutthroat dealings.

"What do you think?" The accent was Arkanian and it flowed from the collector with grace. She was mid-thirties perhaps, raven black hair and tall of build with eyes of near violet. Her attire was appropriate though extremely expensive of taste and while she was unarmed one didn't have to look far to notice at least for largely built bodyguards in the room and no doubt several more very close by.

"I think," Ben began, rubbing his bearded chin in one hand and handling the holopad in the other, his eyes studying the images intently. A trio of beings in their youth, in tattered rags and chains. This was troubling to a great extent. The Jedi Master had been tracking down the source of this sentient trafficking ring for weeks and the images he'd seen were several of the same few beings... these images were new, fresh faces. It suggested that the stockpile of prisoners was far more extensive than he had assumed and he may have already been too late to stop the sale of at least six innocents into this underworld of darkness. "I think that I will have to see more quality specimens, clearly these dregs aren't trained as the one's we've discussed previously."

He was reaching for time and for a better angle to see if there were more slaves. Of course he hated playing the roll he found himself in, of the purchaser of slave labor, but it was one of the best positions to be in when it came down to finding every victim possible. "Yes, I apologize. The stock we spoke on last week went to another buyer that spoke of urgency in his purchase. But these specimens, I assure you, are of even better quality than our last batch."

Ben frowned and returned a displeased grunt. "This is highly unusual and inappropriate. I was guaranteed those choices. No, I will have to make my selections again." He waved his hand dismissively. "Send them away and I demand to see your entire stock in the morning as well as any potential candidates that may be incoming."

For the high amounts of credit totals this exchange was to be considering, Ben's persona held much authority in buying power and the collector nodded apologetically. "Of course. We'll have your information brought to you at once."

"See that you do." He snapped, walking with annoyed strides back to his suite...

The Blaster pistol was aimed at Corban, the lead thug’s finger resting on the trigger, all he had to do was pull it and the life of Corban would be no more. The rain was slightly lightening up but the wind did not make it any better or any more comfortable or any less for that matter.
One of the man’s cohorts urged him to do it to kill the young man. The other telling him suggesting that he might fetch a good price on the Slave markets. It would not be the first time that they had sold people to the slavemasters. The hand was steady and he had made his choice and he was about to carry out that decision.

"I would not do that if I were you!"

Came a voice coming from behind him. It startled him and he was quick to turn and swing the blaster towards the voice. Even in the rain from the pitch of her voice and appearance knew it was a woman. Surprisingly he could not pull the trigger as this interloper approached. He wanted to but something prevented him to take action.

Deal with YOU” he said with the emphasis on the last word then he started to laugh.

You are outnumbered 3 to 1 lady, so I give you the option to just turn around and walk away or we’ll deal with you and sell you to the slavers” with that the other two dropped their pipes and pulled out blaster pistols as well all three locked on the mysterious woman. Their attention from their victim averted

Of course they knew what they were doing was illegal, but they were homeless, and starving and they survived together any way that they could doing whatever it takes. Anything less they would starve and eventually die like so many on this world.

Corban laid there on the ground, beaten, bloodied even in the unfriendly weather but he was still conscious laying on his stomach as the new person turned their focus off of him and on to this stranger. He did not dare to hope that this new person would help him. The darkness threatened to overtake him. He did his best to not succumb to the blissfulness of unconsciousness. All he could do was watch the events around him. He was pretty sure his leg was broken, and he had several bruises, cuts, contusions, he did not feel like lifeforce ebbing away but his will and the strength were fading fast. Soon he would be at the mercy of whoever would emerge the victor of what was sure to be a fight.

The lead thug had made his choice and he squeezed off a blaster shot at the intruder, at this the other two also began to unload their power packs in the direction of the mysterious woman. As the confrontation played itself out Corban moaned out a single word before darkness dragged him down to the sweet abyss of unconsciousness.

The leader's reply caused Evy to raise a brow under her hood. Was he being serious? So they were those kinds of people, participating in human trafficking? How disappointing...

As she stood there in front of these bullies, she closed her eyes and allowed the Force to flow through her and around her, letting go and just feel it guide her body and her mind. Her breath steady and slow, taking in all of her surroundings. Suddenly she felt the small tremor of disturbance in the Force, telling her to react. She pulled the trigger and a blaster shot was fired directly at the leader's hand holding the blaster. As his shot was fired it missed right past her shoulder as it was shot out of his grasp. "I see..." Young Miss Swann said calmly before pressing on her belt buckle activating her personal energy shield as the other two opened fire. She had deliberately bought it for a situation like this. The young lady thought that there would be a risk of getting into blaster fire here on Corellia, and she hadn't been wrong. Boy was she glad she had a good teacher. Grabbing onto the hilt of her vibrosword, she ran to her left to hide behind one of the large rock formations nearby. She was not stupid enough to go all in and just fight them all at once. She would be tactical about this, well as much as her knowledge could muster anyway. Right then and there her main objective had been to lead their attention away from their injured victim, and so far she had been successful.

Jumping behind cover, she deactivated her energy shield once more to reach out through the Force to sense them. She crouched, her grey-ish robes getting a nice mixed colour from the rain and the muddy dirt. Evelyn went around the rock formation to hide behind some of the trees there. She was circling them, using her environment, making sure she was as silent as possible. Her heartbeat still steady, she tightened her grip around her vibrosword. It was her best tool in a fight after all. Taking a deep breath, she made her move when she had a feeling that they had gained enough distance from each other and placed her blaster back in its holster. Running out from behind one of the trees, she came quickly behind one of the cohorts, her blade ready. Her intention was not to kill them but to immobilize them. She wished no harm upon them, but that was just who she was, alas she knew minor damages could not be avoided.

Coming closer to reach her first target, she aimed her sword and first strike at his arm wielding his weapon, to give a non-lethal cut before striking another attack at his leg and finally a blow aimed at his ankle to give a cut to his joint to immobilize him.

Returning to his suite and locking the door behind him, Ben Kenobi moved to his room and knelt down with his staff before him. His hands rested on the cool metal and he focused his mind on his adegan pontite crystal, it was a soothing feeling and enough to help him concentrate. The meditation took away the difficulties he was having in controlling his emotions. Even as a Jedi Master one was always under the internal conflict of human nature.

His emotions saw him leaping into action and freeing the slaves in this facility. But his mind and discipline kept him firmly set in stone. He knew there was more slaves out there. Additional holding sites, warehouses, even nearby clients that would go dark if he moved too soon and if he did that then there was a chance the victims would never see their freedom.

No, he needed to be extremely careful here. Only through patience and reserved concentration would he successfully break this trafficking ring down and free everyone possible.

Within the hour he came from his meditations and even though he departed the cool touch of the Lightside of the Force, his staff kept his thoughts from wandering too far. Up to his feet he moved to the terminal and accessed his secured operational files; his astromech R6-D4 was still operating within the lower portions of this facility and it was still hard at work cracking security systems and observing the comings and goings of the bowels of this underworld. While checking status was one thing, he couldn't contact the droid yet without risk of blowing his and his droid's cover.

Turning the terminal off he breathed deeply. Patience was not easily found and he needed to keep that in mind...

The blaster bolt hit the pistol, which caused it to spark and sizzle, the leader dropped the pistol in shock a result of the now dead blaster. This woman was not an average citizen, he began to think maybe she was Corsec or even military, with that kind of precise aim. He would have to change his tactics.

The Blaster shots by the other two thugs had missed their target badly. One of the thugs had been advancing towards the interloper when he tripped over Corban, seeing the unconscious young man the thug kicked him in the ribs hard, and then pointed his blaster and shot the defenseless young man in the chest. Corban did not cry out, he was already out cold. But now the blaster wound was a very serious wound which now most likely put the young man in mortal danger.

He looked around and did not see the woman anymore, the rain had not let up, but then turned around violently as the blade craved across his arm and leg, he dropped the blaster , he was hurt but not subdued, he threw a mid kick aimed at her midsection the balance was a bit off and not as much strength as he would have normally put into it due to the wound. But then thinking better of it decided to make his exit from the fray, as the pain in his wounds began to set in. This left the leader and one of the thugs. The 2nd thug had his blaster out still but tossed the leader his lead pipe, he had caught it with ease and now it had gone down to 2 against 1. A sound could be heard getting closer, the thugs recognized it as it was the sound of Corsec , the authorities were on their way and the sounds of their speeders caused the remaining two thugs to turn tail and run. As one thug ran he fired blaster shots in the general direction, his aim was wide.

Corban was bleeding, his condition deteriorating, would have caused a tremor in the Force to any who were near would feel it. In the dreamless void , Corban was inching closer and closer to the afterlife.
