Spice it up(Zas, ask)

Post by Neive Undant » Fri Feb 07, 2020 5:41 pm

In the days since the battle on Jedha between Prazutis and the two Jedi, activity of Jedi in imperial space seemed to dwindle. While Prazutis didn’t like focusing on tasks not related to the enemy at hand, his presence near the Corporate Sector triggered a message from the ISB asking Prazutis to look into a Spice ring in the area. Ryll, Glitterstim, and other narcotics were a plague on the people’s minds and on their bank accounts, and with no taxes being paid from the transactions, the Empire watched these credits fall into the hands of a number of Crime Lords in the area.

Even so, with a problem this large in scale, it seemed strange for the ISB to ask this of an Inquisitor, not to mention a High Inquisitor with such a reputation as Prazutis’, ending most problems with his lightsaber. However, he supposed with his lack of collateral damage reporting, that they would have faith that he would not simply exterminate the ring in its entirety.

But just in case, he was told that a mercenary with connections in the area would be sent to meet him in Bonadon’s capital marketplace.

Prazutis didn’t ask questions as to why or how the mercenary was brought on board for the mission, but if we could assist in any way, Prazutis was fine with having an extra voice at his side... or an extra blaster.

From the Shadowhawk, Prazutis brought 2 stormtroopers with him, in case any arrests were made, and for a bit of extra intimidation. An Inquisitor in Mandalorian armor was a sight to see, but the recognizable Trooper armor and helmet would ensure nobody but those he had business with would approach the High Inquisitor.

From the loading ramp of his personal Lambda shuttle, Prazutis stepped down with the troopers, in a spaceport near the marketplace. As the three approached the rendezvous point, Prazutis only waited for the arrival of this “Mercenary” as the ISB mentioned him as...

It was funny how the easiest promises to break were the ones to yourself.

He had sworn to himself he wouldn't return to the Corporate Sector for anything short of a life debt. Too many memories, bad and good. More importantly, the Corporate Sector had a standing bounty on his head- a common problem with transitions from one Direx to another, but it had been politically convenient to blame him for all manner of problems over the years, inflating the original sizeable bounty to absurd levels, and he had no interest in spending the rest of his life in Stars' End.

But that was before he found out what was at stake. What the Corporate Sector had of his. It didn't really matter to him why they had it, but the fact that they did changed things, made him come out from the cold and risk it all.

This job was the perfect opportunity for him. If it took him where he thought, it would give him a shot at the target with the minimum amount of risk. The Imperials would get him into the Corporate Sector, and it would be up to him to get back out again. That required the Imperials to be entirely unaware of his true objectives, however. This meant that it required a disguise.

A shadow darkened the helms of Prazutis' escort, the murky sunlight casting a grim light over the massive figure. He appeared more machine than man, a titanic mass of armor that turned a humanoid frame into a living hammer. Nemesis armor was a rare sight, to be certain, and it left an impression on any with the questionable fortune to see it in action.

"Not a bad suit," admitted a deep, gruff voice from within the suit. Zasabi made sure to install the suit with a number of vocoders that would translate his voice into one entirely dissimilar from his own. "Certainly better taken care of than most of the suits I've claimed over the years."

As the troopers closed ranks around the High Inquisitor, Zasabi extended a menacing metal hand, palm upwards. A small smooth metal ring sat in the center, igniting into a holographic display that announced him as "Johrn McGrath, Guilded Mercenary" along with a set of identification numbers that would match up with the mission data the Inquisitor had received.

"Espos gonna give your boys any trouble?" Zasabi drawled as he nodded toward the armed Stormtroopers. "They tend to be pretty insistent on the whole "No weapons" law in my experience."

Prazutis gave a quick visual inspection of the man before him as the hologram lit up between them, the numbers matching with what he remembered from his intel. However, some of the first words he spoke were to inform him of the local rules.

While Prazutis was sure that Imperial business would warrant an exception from this law, he did not try and press the matter, and before they left the spaceport, he raised a hand to gesture the troopers back to the ship, in which they proceeded at the gesture gladly.

We’re supposedly headed to a Boss’ office called “taverin.” He’s apparently our informant.” Prazutis said, looking over the exit to the spaceport a moment.

Let’s get down to business.” he said, and began walking, ensuring his lightsaber was properly stowed away, concealed within his cape and belt, farther back than usual to ensure it was not clearly visible, even if he was to reluctantly open his cape.

McGrath stalked menacingly behind the Inquisitor, making it clear as the two men moved that they were not to be messed with. Were the Inquisitor's obvious nature as an envoy of the Empire not enough to dissuade would-be thieves and criminals, the hulking mass of shielded composite durasteel armor behind him showed that they did not need weapons to be extremely dangerous.

"What kind of heat are we looking at with this contact?" Jorm asked, deep voice rolling with a harsh metallic tang. "There gonna be trouble or are they friendly?"

Zasabi was also interested in this answer outside of his role as Jorm, as trouble early on would make his goals much harder to achieve. Hopefully the inquisitor wasn't too trigger happy.

Prazutis approached one of the smaller bars in the nearby area, taking out a small holo-device that pinged the second floor of the building.

Our contact is a reasonable fellow, as much as you can be in a filth-infested crater like this.

This much was true, Prazutis was told that this trader was more compliant with the Empire than most, and while he still performed small-time smuggling, he was more than happy with helping the Empire when a rival of his was wanted for getting too big for their boots, surpassing petty spice trade for a larger business of the trade.

As Prazutis entered the bar and headed for a stairwell to the right of the front doors, the scene was one that anyone could expect to see. Twi’leks and human females serving drinks, men of all species overindulging, and a quick-handed Iktotchi behind the bar.

However, as Prazutis made his way up the stairs, and the atmosphere below gave way to an atmosphere of smoke and laughter, Prazutis knew this was the right place.

The bar was like countless Zasabi had seen, filled with bored spacers and locals looking for a story, a deal, or just a drink. The Corporate Sector, however, had a certain unique brand of cruelty that he rarely found outside of their section of space. Emerging from a refresher, he could see what was clearly an indentured servant, no doubt forced to work to repay some debt or another. Rarely did such individuals manage to repay their debt- instead they would have their debt sold from company to company, finding themselves effectively slaves.

A small slice of what made the Corporate Sector so abhorrent to Zasabi now. He could ignore the cruelty of the system before, but he had simply seen too much to close his eyes to it now.

As the Inqusitor made his way up the stairs, Jorm paused briefly. His power armor was hefty, putting him well beyond the weight of a normal sentient. Most turbolifts had weight tolerances far beyond the weight of the suit, but locations with a more...quaint design often found handling the bulk of his suit difficult. Letting out a small sigh, he realized there was only one way to know.

Settling a single metal tread on the foot of the stairs, Jorm gingerly put weight on the step as if testing the temperature of water with a toe. It was no doubt a comical sight to those conscious enough to pay attention but inebriated enough not to be concerned about risking his ire.

Judging the stairs safe enough, Jorm made his way up after the Inquisitor. Stopping before the door leading to the merchant's shop, he turned to give a glance at Prazutis. "You first, or me? How much do you want this guy pissing his britches before we start negotiations?"

No need for intentional intimidation. This one is our contact, no part of the problem at hand.” Prazutis replied, opening the door.

The room before them was a usual site for a high end criminal’s quarters. Women of various species taking hits from long, thin spice pipes, while one man In a large seat in the middle of the room looked to the now open door.

Chuckling, he leaned back in the seat, taking a death stick from his pocket and lighting it.

“Evening, gentleman. What can a man like me help you with?”

The man wore a dark red robe, though it was less of a jedi or with robe and more like a bathrobe, with a silk string around the waist, and a pair of silk black pants underneath that reached down to his ankles. His tanned skin nearly blended in with the robe, and his short, black beard hung lightly from his jaw.

Zasabi frowned. The inquisitor's gentle approach was surprising, to say the least. The armor and clear Imperial insignia spoke to the image Prazutis wanted to project, but he also didn't want to rely overmuch on intimidation. Something told him this man was not as simple as he looked.

Jorhn stomped in after the Inquisitor, leveling a steady look at the man in the middle. While the hookah suggested he was inebriated, no doubt an individual that had reached high enough station to deal with an inquisitor without immediately kowtowing suggested that he had more to him than met the eye.

Folding his massive arms, he stood with his legs spread shoulder-width to increase his dominating presence. "Taverin, I presume?"

The silk robes man chuckled, a small cloud of smoke bursting from his mouth with each chuckle.

“Right you are, my friend. Though, I’m unsure what the Empire would want with me specifically.”

Prazutis intervened, speaking once more.

We’re here for the smugglers.” Prazutis said, to the point.

“Smugglers? You mean the ones coming in from Hutt space, who secretly trade alcohol and extra food to the imperial officers in the mid core systems in exchange for defense budget credits? Sorry, they’re not here.”

Prazutis said nothing, noting the information for later.

No, the spice smugglers. The ones that corporate sector imperials have been buying from.

Oh, you mean those three. Yes, they’re around. Right now, depending on the time, they’re most likely enjoying a drink. Would you like some... privacy with the fellows?”

Things were going a little too smoothly for Zas' taste. Granted, the ease with which the contact seemed willing to deliver this information seemed suspicious, but even that would likely be too quiet for the kind of ruckus that he needed for the next step of his plan. It was time to accelerate things a little.

On the staircase where the pair had made their way up to Taverin's room, a tiny piece of metal had lodged itself on the railing where Jorhn had grabbed it earlier. That metal was a chip, with a relatively short wave communicator inside of it. It had only two functions- the first, to activate a quick comm channel on a frequency tied to an outlaw group under investigation by the local Corporate Sector Security. The second, once the comm burst was ended, was to burn out it's circuitry in a brief near-microscopic flare of plasma, leaving only the metal casing and what few pieces that could be collected by a forensics team. It was enough, however, to draw the attention of the local Espos monitoring station, which began routing units to the location of the comm burst. The station on this part of town was not known for it's quick response time, but it would still be only a matter of time before they arrived and began to lock down the building.

Johrn took a step forward, arms still folded in a mixture of intimidation and distance. It would not be hard to imagine what the power-armored man could do were he to unfold his arms within reach of the information broker. "Privacy, names, identification, and any other information you can offer. That's what we want."
