Preparation H: Dorks Assemble (Jedi)

Post by Zechs Merquise » Fri Jun 29, 2018 2:01 pm

The council had been called. The jedi in their place of quiet contemplation gathered. The rare sight of so many masters poured fuel on the fire of the light in the hearts of many. Knights, padawans, rangers, and the out of place unaffiliated guy watched in awe as they strode in. Many were eager to present all they knew for the mysterious task that'd be put before the Coalition. The details shared had yet to be more than just few, but the force called them to action.

Silence. It was the jedi's natural state. It didn't last past the first jedi. Chatter like keys striking boards erupted as groups gathered, told stories of where they had been, and generally made it sound really cool and awesome to be a jedi compared to those special people on the other side of the galaxy who were into self-harm and acts of bitter rage.

The council began to arrive. One master after another. They joined their coalition-mates and passed the time as they waited for the last few to arrive. This was not a day where holograms would suffice. This was a day the jedi gathered, in person.

What had called them all together?

The force. It was always the force. Seriously, when isn't it the force? Jedi. Force. It was their thing to answer. Even when it was to do some good or help someone out, it was always bound in the will of the force and its love for all those shared it. That's everyone, if it wasn't obvious.

What were they planning? Who would buy lunch? One no one knew. The other all eyes would turn to the greenest member, if he showed up.

The jedi gathered. The light at its finest. The stage was there's. It was like looking at the sun, but the tears were of joy for such a gathering could only mean one thing: something good was going to happen, and it'd be awesome.

***Koda Station - I-18***

The assembly of Masters had come to completion and no formal announcement needed to be spoken for she stood and spoke quietly, yet her voice carried as if highly amplified by technological enhancement; Naomi Kilsar, Grand Jedi Master of the Coalition. When she gave forth utterance, all held their tongues and made to listen and listen well. She took several minutes to thank the gathering of Masters for their effort in making the trip to Koda Station, some having come from clear across the known Galaxy to be here. This gathering had been a long time coming. Its reality was a sign within the Force itself…

The Jedi would no longer hide in the shadows while evil was given the liberty to do as they saw fit. When she was prepared, she began in earnest. Speaking out against the atrocities of the Sith, she framed her case well and focused the setting of this meeting on the subject of the Sith Empire. For it was in a time of transition, a weak point. With Darth Tormentous largely missing from the galactic scene, the viable and cunning Lord Blood had recently become the face of the Sith. The Force oft worked in mysterious ways and when it was time for the pendulum to swing, it swung back hard.

“No more,” she announced in righteous indignation, “too long has our ancient enemy been permitted to strike from the open. Their boldness will, however, be their undoing as they present to us the opportunity to strike back a blow that will send the Sith reeling back to the Stygian Caldera.” Kilsar held their attention firmly, not a soul did not rest on her every word as her plan unfolded though as she spoke and explained of the future path of the Jedi Coalition, the holes in her strategy began to show.

“The Galactic Alliance can only do so much. Politics, policy and red tape bog them down and temper their efforts in such a way that they cannot venture the path that we are about to set before us. As we move into the preparation phase of our plan, we are faced with reality.” Kilsar moved on fluidly with the overview of the strategy. This grand plan had not come from Kilsar alone but rather from months of debating within the Councils of Jedi Temples across the Galaxy as well as the counsel of great strategists of the Galactic Alliance Military. While they couldn’t pledge much support for the Jedi on the basis of a ‘religious war,’ they were not beyond granting advisors when they were requested.

Many objectives passed through the strategy room of the Jedi High Council and the Galactic Alliance Advisors, seven extensive plans had come and gone, delivering the notions of grand crusades to clandestine operations to more passive efforts… none made the muster and it was only until the eighth effort came to be that it had taken the namesake of the phonetic letter: H. The Preparation of H had come to be now and it was the time of action. The Jedi would apply the salve of the Light onto the irritation of Darkness.

“While the Jedi are not above the leg work, we need the efforts of others that we may call friend for the roles of support, intelligence, logistics. Without these three our efforts are doomed to remain either the empty talk of faux defenders or the failing efforts of those who cannot go the distance.” At this point it seemed the meeting was to move to the deeper strategy. Though before Kilsar actually began speaking, she turned to the seated ring of Council members. “Master Godot, it is time to seek out our friend.”

The elder Omwati rose to his feet and bowed respectfully. “I will make all haste and report back as soon as I’ve made contact.”

“A volunteer to go with Master Godot.” Master Kilsar offered as more an order than a request. Such was the importance of this task that it be taken with utter secrecy and security alike. Her eyes did not search long over those that had stood as volunteers. “Master Kenobi.”

He inclined his head and responded. “We’ll see it done, Master Kilsar.”

Linking up, the two Jedi Masters turned and exited the chambers to hand deliver the requests of the Jedi Coalition. Meanwhile, the chambers within Koda Station awoke with the voice of that which would set into motion the future of far more than the fate of an entire species…

Her ship had been given clearance to land, it had been reported missing from Naboo for some time. Kubu had gotten lost yet again, seems this time it was the system itself. As the droid had told the mechanic what was going it she wondered around. She didn't know who these people were or why they were gathered. "Csehisbah csea je'daii." The droid translated. (Look at those je'daii) "Csea cart Je'daii?!" She said. She had never thought she'd ever see a Je'daii, but here they were. Kubu couldn't help but stare, they seemed very different than the "new" Sith that she had encountered.

'Was this what my family was punished for?' She thought. It began to cross her mind now that she stood here watching them. Kubu couldn't help but wonder if her family had gotten out of Sith life if this is where they might have gone. There was also the possibility that this place didn't exist back then. She knew so little about the galaxy or even the language that was common for everyone but herself. Kubu was starting to fell a little out if place, everywhere, she didn't know where she belonged anymore. Being the last of something really didn't help matters it just made it worst.

Continued from Odds and Ends...

Buggie deftly sidestepped the towering Nautolan's effort to grapple him, slipping past him, and all the while very cautious to not lay a hand on the superior officer as he rumbled past.

"Stop movin', boy!" Liszt bellowed, regaining his momentum and stomping back toward Buggie.

To say that the admiral was furious with Buggie was an understatement. Admiral Liszt was notorious for not tolerating incompetence, and Buggie had made more than a few errors in his duties as a pirate. His research station was over budget, and all the projects assigned to him were currently on hold. What was meant to serve as a solution to the cash flow issue instead blew up in Buggie's face in spectacular fashion; he had lost over a million credits in a gambling scheme. To make matters potentially worse, that considerable figure only represented how many credits he had lost to date.

"Admiral, I feel the need to remind you at this moment that the Pirate Code specifically forbids any pirate from striking another while on cr-- Hey!" Buggie began, before being latched onto by an equally mammoth Houk.

Buggie had managed to slip both arms against his chest before being held still, though any effort to push out and slip away again was firmly countered by the heavy boarding armor that the Marauder Houk wore.

"Yer lucky I don't toss ye out the airlock, boy," Liszt said in his heavy accent as he approached, "I want ye to take yer licks first."

Buggie urged the Admiral to wait and think about what he was doing, all the while still trying to wriggle from the Houk's grasp. By some fortune, his wrist mounted communicator activated, and a small hologram of an old, bearded Jedi burst from the device.

"Master Buggie..." a voice sounded from the communicator.

Cocking his head, Admiral Liszt lowered his similarly cocked fist and studied the hologram.

"That Ben Kenobi?!" he asked, surprised to see the familiar face, "How the hell are ye?! Haven't seen ye since our fun out in Hutt Space, ye old kark!"

The two Masters boarded the YT 2000 Talon shortly after departing from the auditorium where the gathering was being held, they’d only spared time to gather up their few personal effects or recheck their inventories before moving immediately to the hangar bay where the crews were already finishing preparations for the Talon’s launch. Having been alerted to the imminent launch of the ship, the non-Jedi crew of Koda Station went to work topping off the fuel and handling a few maintenance checks as well as the pre-flight list to expedite the travel of the occupants.

Without disappointing, when Master Godot and Master Kenobi boarded the Talon its’ generators were humming with power and the RX-24 Pilot Droid, that had replaced Kenobi’s ill-fated astromech when the Kalidor was destroyed by Tormentous, was just now spooling up the engines. Ben approached the cockpit and simply leaned his head inside to view the scene. “Thank you, RX. Please bring us out of the station and begin maneuvering towards the transit point. By the time we get there hopefully I will have some jump coordinates for you.” The droid responded in a series of beeps and whirs of which he barely caught. Droid binary wasn’t a language Ben was fluent in; while he managed communication with his old droid companion, that relationship had been several decades in the making. He’d yet to catch the mannerisms of the replacement. It only served to remind him to go out and seek his preferred droid pilot astromech… at a later time perhaps.

Godot and Kenobi moved into the galley, “Please, make yourself comfortable. I’ll try to raise Master Buggie.” He mentioned with a hint that there was more on his mind, “There’s little to suggest where he is right now, the current company has done well with tucking him away.”

Master Godot chuckled, “If you need a hand let me know.” And he moved off into the depths of the ship, likely for a period of meditation in preparation for the necessary events to come.

Moving to the communications terminal, Ben plugged in Buggie’s frequency and despite trying to ping it, he was unsuccessful in determining where the Jedi Master was. He wasn’t surprised and so with that he moved to the next step in seeking the wayward Master out; he opened a long distance comm.. For several long moments the communications display was silent save for a pulsating red lamp that indicated a failure to connect, though in time, given enough patience, the light went green and Ben’s holographic image was shot many light years distant to wherever Master Buggie would find himself.

Much to Ben’s surprise, when Buggie materialized he was not alone but being restrained by a rather large fellow that he failed to recognize and one being that was set to deliver Buggie a few unfriendly licks. Ben did recognize this one! “Yes, yes. Admiral, it is good to see you well again. I can tell time has been treating you fine. I myself am quite well actually. After that go around in Hutt Space I made sure to get off to a more trustworthy Cantina!” Indeed, it had been a Cantina that had gotten Ben and Jay in trouble in the first place.

Again Ben returned his gaze curiously to Buggie. “Though the next time we meet we’ll be playing dejarik on my table.” He of course was referring to the loss of a large sum of credits to Admiral Liszt and his boys. Ben had been a friend to the Blue Star Pirates for many a year. Even in times when today’s Galactic Alliance and yesterday’s Rebel Alliance hadn’t seen eye to eye with the BSP, the aging Jedi Master had never forgotten who his friends were.

“If you don’t mind terribly, Admiral. Depending on the severity of Buggie’s punishment, perhaps it could be delayed until after I’ve finished with him? I’ve quite the pressing task for our friend and if he is too crippled I’m afraid it wouldn’t sit well with our efforts. I would add that it would be more profitable for you to keep him in tact… at least for now. Afterwards, please feel free to met out your displeasure.” He finished with a lopsided grin, ignoring Buggie’s desperate look.

She saw a giant bug being restrained by another man. Kubu threw caution to the wind and moved closer to them. "Ch'ircsen Kubu!" The droid tried to stop her but she wanted a closer inspection of these two. (Mistress Kubu!) As she got closer, she could see the bug more clearly that was being restrained.

She stopped really close to them, she wanted to touch it, but boundaries. It facinated her as she had never encountered a huge bug that walked and talked. 'I wonder if he's real?' She thought. Her yellow eyes stared in awe, she watched them both. "Sorry Jedi master please excuse her, she is new to everything." The droid said catching up.

Admiral Liszt threw back his head, sending all fourteen of his sensory head-tentacles flying through the air before slapping against his back. At this point, the admiral was forcefully holding Buggie's arm in order to look directly through the communicator at Master Ben Kenobi, so the sudden action wrenched Buggie's arm, soliciting a momentary yelp.

"It ain't that easy, Kenobi!" Liszt bellowed, giving a silver-toothed grin, "The Code demands he be punished. I can't overlook it."

But you can overlook striking another pirate on duty! Buggie thought, though he would never voice it in this vulnerable of a position.

A gaunt figure then sidled into the projection, his spindly fingers steepled before his chest. Buggie immediately recognized the near-Human as the Omwati Jedi Master Godot, whom Buggie had apprenticed under for years. If anyone could diffuse this situation, it was his former master!

"Allow me to propose a solution, if I may, Admiral," Godot began, "Evidently, Master Kenobi and you both share an appreciation for games of fortune. Let us play a game of chance for Master Buggie. If you win, carry out whatever punishment you deem fitting. If we win, you release him until our Jedi business is complete, and then you carry out your punishment, as Master Kenobi requested."

"Ha! Seems to me I've already got Master Buggie right where I want 'im." Liszt proudly observed, "What's in it for me?"

Godot calmly observed his surroundings within the projection, "Master Kenobi's vessel should be sufficient."

"Oh ho!" Liszt barked, "Now we're talkin'! Barhg, let the Verpin' go and grab us a sabacc deck!"

The Houk released his hold over Buggie and lumbered off in his boarding armor to fetch the deck. When he returned, it was decided that the cards would be cut, and, since a standard sabacc deck had cards with both positive and negative values, the card closest to zero would decide the winner. Buggie piped up at this point that Admiral Liszt should present the cards to the Jedi to make sure that the deck wasn't stacked, but the only response he received was the scowl of the Houk commander.

Admiral Liszt cut first and lifted his card, the metallic smile appearing once again as he presented it to the Houk Marauder, Barhg Raskh. They both shared a conspiratorial chuckle and then presented the card to the Jedi; the Queen of Air and Darkness, which carried a value of negative two. Godot, for his part, requested the top card. Buggie lifted the card, looked at it, and breathed a sigh of relief as he slapped it down before Liszt and Raskh.

It was the One of Sabers. Buggie was free!

Liszt punched at the air, "Bah! Should've known to not bet with Jedi! Come on then, I'll have the coordinates to The Accord sent to ye. Ye can come get yer Master Buggie, and I'll be havin' yer credits one way or another, Kenobi, even if it means sittin' behind yer sad excuse for a dejarik table!"

Bedecked in his silver grey cloak with face concealed under the eave of his hood, Jedi Rainwalker's piercing blue-green eyes darted across the assembly in Koda Station. Last time he had been here, he had been a Padawan - and believe it or not, this was the first time he had been this close to the Grand Master of the entire Coalition herself, Naomi Kilsar. Jedi Rainwalker had to admit, the lady had a commanding personality; every Jedi fell silent the moment she spoke, even the ever opinionated Jedi Master Mynb, the Head of Koda Station. She too dared not speak in the presence of the mighty Naomi Kilsar, unless necessary.

"Are they gonna contact Master Buggie or not? He's probably the only one not here," Jedi Rainwalker whispered to the woman on his right, as he saw the Grand Master communicating with the Council of Masters. Annan could see the back of his own Master, Han Xin, among them as well, along with Jedi Master Shirrwa, the Great Wookie himself, and Jedi Master Sam Tallav - people whom Annan knew quite well.

"I think I saw someone mouth an 'H'," Jedi Knight Dahlia Sky, one of Annan's best friends in the Coalition and one slightly skilled in lip reading, whispered back her reply. The Knights were standing off to one side in the auditorium while Masters did what Masters do best: keep the Knights on a need-to-know-basis.

"Well, they're up to something," Jedi Rainwalker sighed, as he saw Master Godot and Master Kenobi get up from their Council seats upon Grand Master Kilsar's instruction, it seemed. Ani knew Master Godot; they had never personally met, but he knew his own Master Han Xin had taken Padawan Freezing tips from Master Godot when training Ani. As for Master Kenobi, everyone knew who he was: he was pretty much a legend (any Jedi who could survive long enough to grow so old had to be a legend).

Dafi the Quadduck flew into Koda Station. Where he had been all this time, no one knew, but he was here now, and he glided through the vastness of the auditorium, passing Jedi after Jedi until finally perching himself upon Jedi Rainwalker's shoulder. The silent tension in the room said it all: this was the true calm before the war, the anesthesia and gentle lithotomy positioning before the inevitable eversion of the anal canal... and the quadduck understood it quite well as he bathed in the waves of light emanating from all the Jedi in the room.

Dafi the Quadduck quacked his usual quack upon seeing Kubu, bringing her to Jedi Rainwalker's attention. Annan remembered that young lady quite well, and he chuckled as he saw her following after Master Godot and Master Kenobi. He hoped she didn't get herself into too much trouble, but he trusted the elder Masters to look after her.

Jedi Rainwalker did not need to be told anything to know that the hemorrhoidectomy was coming. While Jedi Rainwalker had donned his surgical gloves and ensured the lightsaber clipped to his belt was ready for any inevitable cautery, Dafi the Quadduck too was prepared to apply any and all salves necessary, even if he had to use his own beak to do it.

It hadn’t startled him when Kubu approached and voiced her presence to the scene, but he hadn’t been expecting it either. This wasn’t the first stowaway that had gotten aboard his ship though it was the youngest and the most intriguing. Ben had only read texts, very old ones, about the Sith species and to see one up close… well it was fascinating. He had questions aplenty but for now the fate of many rested on keeping the subject of the moment in line. He gave a nod to the droid and a short wave to let the child know that she should sit aside and out of trouble. Unfortunately it was already too late to bring her back to Koda Station, the Talon had already launched and was well away, she would have to suffer the trip to go and fetch Master Buggie.

The conversation continued and he smiled when the ole pirate turned his immediate offer down and demanded compensation in another way or even for the furtherance of this bargain to be more in his favor. Pirates may have been swindlers, cheats and oft criminals, but of this they were always reliable to be as such. Ben stood aside as Master Godot gently took control of the situation and he even remained absolutely silent when his YT 2000 was put up as collateral to the game of chance. A ship was but a ship, a convenience to swift them from one location to the other. If lost it could be replaced. As nostalgic as one could be through an age long possession, it was not a permanent in this world. Fretting over it was as pointless as being concerned with stopping the winds from blowing or the tides from rising and falling.

When the game was over, he gave no sign of relief, only a measure of accomplishment for they could proceed with the mission they’d been tasked with. “Thank you, Admiral. We’ll be there presently and until then, please to not cripple Master Buggie, he will be required to maintain motor function for the task we have for him.”

Cutting out the transmission, a blinking light appeared on the console and just as expected the admiral had sent over his coordinates. Looking over them quickly Ben alerted Godot, “Fortunately for us they are not too far away.”He began punching in the data which was transmitted to the cockpit where his RX-24 Pilot Droid adjusted the parameters of the navicomputer to activate a navbuoy nearby where they would make the jump to hyperspace. Already the engines were flaring and if it wasn’t for the internal compensators they would’ve felt the Talon shift as she made the course correction. “Thank you, Master Godot. That could have been far more time consuming and costly. I may enjoy a game or two, though I am quite lousy at it.”

Finally, after the point where the YT 2000 took the jump into hyperspace, Ben moved to the table where Kubu and the droid were located. He took a seat and looked at the droid, unsure if it was the child’s guardian or servant. Likely both. He took a deep breath and began, “What is your name little one? I am Master Kenobi, though you may call me Ben if you’d like.”

Letting the child, or the droid, answer, he continued. “What are you doing on this ship?” He wasn’t sure if it’d be appropriate to ask where her parents were, being that she was of a species that was supposed to be extinct, but he honestly wasn’t sure where to start. “Where are your parents? Do they know where you are? Forgive me for being so inquisitive, but, how are you… Sith?” He wondered perhaps if she wasn’t Sith but rather a subspecies or maybe medically altered to obtain the likeness of one. “Are you Sith?”

Lastly, he concluded, “I’m sorry but we’re already underway on a very important mission to retrieve a friend of ours. Until we return to Koda Station, I’m afraid you’ll have to ride along with us.”

She was going to touch the bug, but was was stopped by a wave. She was intrigued, but the droid pulled her back to sit. When the conversation was over a man got up from his seat to approach. She had never seen a Je'daii up close, this one was an elder. Kubu got up to touch his beard a little, she wanted to make sure that it was real, that he was real. She looked at the elder in awe, there had only been stories of Je'daii, ones of mistrust. "What cart veo nuhn euhn in'a? "Ch'ah cart Kubu Midwan, Ch'ah veb to hsin'bahot en'ravci vim cart rseihn. Ch'ah cart ch'a purebloods Ch'ittoci'ren'musi, etah ber ch'ah Ch'ah cart rot'ar vzah, 000 mir ch'itmon'o..... "She says, I'm Kubu Midwan, I saw the giant insect and was curious. I'm a purebloods Sith, they tell me I am over 5,000 years old.....My family was punished for the light. She didn't mean to cause trouble." The droid said. "She was twelve when it happened, she still is twelve." The droid added.
