The Eocho Mountains

Post by Ben Kenobi » Wed Sep 11, 2019 9:07 pm

***Corellian YT 2000 Light Freighter Talon***
***En route to Ossus - R-6***

He wouldn’t lie, despite the Code of the Jedi Order and the legendary discipline of a Jedi Master; he’d missed her. Evelyn Swann, his Padawan Apprentice, had been sent off to the frozen world of Permafrost to join up with the Jedi Scholars there in order to educate her on the long and storied history of the Jedi Coalition. It was typical and a common thing for Padawans to undertake the courses of historic learning but Miss Swann’s case was not so common. Ben Kenobi had chosen her as his student and in doing so he had pulled her from the normal course of upbringing a normal Padawan would receive. She was destined to study alongside him rather than the onerous route of Jedi Academy learning. They’d stay together for a time but after the attack on the Jedi Enclave of Kashyyyk she had been sent to the secrecy and safety of Permafrost until she was better prepared.

That day had come and already the pair of them were aboard the Talon and moving off into the Galaxy once again. Without a doubt too, Jedi Master Ben Kenobi wasn’t about to give Miss Swann an easy first day back on the job. As their ship sped through hyperspace they were very busy in the training room; the crack of their training staves through the corridors of the ship echoed in swift unison. At times the sound occurred swiftly enough to blur and sometimes they would slow in repetition but they never ceased.

Within the training room Ben himself was down to some simple training attire but he was sweating a good bit for the pair of Jedi were now in their sixtieth minute of steady sparring. The first thirty had been basic instruction but since then it had been nonstop training for the line of work that Master Kenobi did for the Coalition often found himself at the opposing end of an angry person’s blade and he would not have his Padawan ill prepared for it.

Ben came around in a low sweeping arc to horizontally take out Swann’s feet and dump her to the floor but she nimbly jumped over top the attack and even managed to twist to the side as Ben’s follow-up had anticipated her evasion and he’d sent a quick thrust to her midsection. She landed and in came the Master’s retorting salvo. More cracks of the staves could be heard as Evelyn intercepted them with increasingly measured deflections, parries and blocks. Occasionally they’d break apart and circle one another but it wouldn’t be long before they got into the fight once again.

They clashed hard, Ben used his superior strength to move the staves aside then he stepped in, but she was swift and maneuvered away. He came in again with a quick one-two combination attack as a set up to gain distance on her and then he released a punishing series of attacks. He started low and worked a trio of strikes in towards her ankles and then reversed the setting of his attacks and shot two strikes towards her left shoulder and then he moved back to her midsection with another set.

She would have to be on her toes again, he wasn’t about to let up…

Evelyn felt like it had been forever since she had seen Master Kenobi. In a way, it had also been a good long while, filled with intense studies on her part. Before she had stumbled into him - which seemed like decades ago now even though it wasn't - young Evelyn had had so many unanswered questions about her past, about her family, about herself. There had been so much confusion, so much anger and pain kept deep inside of her. Now, after all this struggle and fighting patience and research had finally paid off. The young lady had learned so much on her travels, and now on this path to become a Jedi like her mother was before her, Miss Swann was granted closure at long last. The historic teachings on the frozen planet of Permafrost had taught the brunette quite a few things about her family legacy and what responsibilities that now laid before her as a Jedi.

Her studying hadn't helped her locate her missing sister, but it had helped her regarding the truth of her past. It would seem The Galactic Empire had been manipulating her father without him knowing. The selfish and narcissistic actions from an old supposed friend had been her family's demise in the bitter end. This had obviously made her full with anger of such betrayal, however, young Miss Swann did not wish revenge nor to see the Empire burn to ashes. No, oh no, she wanted to turn it around. She was now determined to change everything for the better so that others wouldn't experience what she had for all this time. Her mindset was calm and collected now compared to what it was back on Kashyyyk. She had found a new form of inner peace to collect herself if needed be. This was surely something her Master needed to know of at some point. But that would happen in due time. The Force always made sure to let things happen as they should be, when they should be, Evy knew this now, so she tried to focus more on the new upcoming adventures lying ahead. Ben would most likely notice the slight change in her persona and the way she carried herself now. The Force was now one with her as she was one with it. She let it guide her as it always had.

Having everything she needed on her person, she was ready to reunite with her Master and tutor. Some of the other mentors guided her to the location and bid their farewells. Once her hazel orbs spotted Master Kenobi, a bright and warm smile washed over her face. Waving politely and running towards him in her grey-ish robes caressed by the wind while her dark brown leather boots were crunching in the snow beneath her, Miss Swann knew they had to leave immediately. She was certain much had happened in her absence and isolation from the rest of the grand galaxy. And boy she wasn't wrong. She needed to stay swift on her two feet from now on, and that was seen as her Master wanted them to spar in the training room aboard the Talon. Nodding acknowledging at her Master they began.

Feeling a bit out of shape, Evy knew she had to be mindful as it would seem Master Kenobi had in mind to train for quite a while. The staves could give quite the bruises if not careful, but this was one of the things young Evelyn had missed. Besides getting answers to many of her questions, not much training was given on Permafrost. It was more reading and listening to mentors explaining the history of the Jedi Coalition.

Evelyn had taken off her robes and was now wearing her simple training outfit that had been hidden in plain sight underneath her traditional Jedi robes. Always prepared for anything. Smiling slightly at her Master before giving a nod, she grabbed one of the staves and readied herself. Ben had taken her by surprise though as she thought he would have her defend immediately. This wasn't so, no, the first good thirty minutes was about basic instructions and repetition. Thankful that this was so, Evy prepared herself to show her Master that she could still fend on her own. Suddenly more serious clashes from the staves could be heard loud and clear as he now seemed to step up his game and this made young Miss Swann smirk. "Seems like I have missed quite a few things huh?" Parrying, blocking and deflecting Ben's attacks, she knew that if she made a misstep she would be rather sore the next couple of days for sure.

Taking a deep breath, the young lady focussed on her breathing as well, to make sure she wouldn't run out of air. This was of course much easier said than done. Thankfully her many years of being on the run had given her mind the tools needed to keep her body ready at all times. Regardless of the situation.

Once Ben started on the multiple attacks, Evy clenched her teeth and felt her muscles tense as he moved closer, so she moved away to avoid the close proximity. This was quite shortlived though as he immediately after attacked her again, forcing her to react. The stave directed at her ankles made her parry it with her own stave as she took a step back into a defensive posture. What she didn't realize was the fact that he had many more attacks in mind at the same time. So as Evelyn tried to block the two hits for her left shoulder, she miscalculated and one hit her shoulder and made her wince from the pain as she successfully blocked the second blow. The pain coursing through her body made her take a deep breath as she tried to calm her mind. She was distracted. It had been so long now since she had seen Master Kenobi, so the excitement of being by her mentor's side once again left her slightly out of focus. Shaking her head once at herself, she knew she had to do better, so as the stave came quickly at her this time, Evelyn parried the blow directed towards her chest and used her own stave to give her a small springboard as she used her own body weight to jump further away from him and to the side in case he wanted to try and give a hit in her new course of direction. "Come now Master Kenobi, we haven't really gotten to the multiple attacks yet and now after so long, you start with this? I see there is no rest nor going easy on me, that is fine. Though this makes me wonder if something has happened while I have been on Permafrost?"

As soon as she had asked her question, she gazed into his eyes as if searching for answers before she moved towards him with her stave in front of her in a defensive position. Once she deemed the distance close enough, her right foot moved forward as bait to her counterattack going for his right side then the left, then his left knee. He'd obviously parry this so Evelyn tried to let the Force guide her this time around along with her agility and was ready for what Master Kenobi was to do next.

"Your studies were essential for your training. But you are correct in that you've missed much Evelyn," He said in reply as their weapons clacked together again, "and your feelings serve you well, the Sith are on the rise and the Darkside of the Force is beginning to stir in the Gordian Reach; I fear that Darth Tormentous is still alive and not only that but he is recovering or possibly is already fully recovered from when I struck him with the Wall of Light." Darth Tormentous was of course the last Dark Lord of the Sith as Evelyn will have learned through her studies on Permafrost and Tormentous was responsible for uncountable atrocities in as much to be declared the biggest threat to the Galaxy in this age. In fact he was readily regarded as one of the most notorious Dark Lords to have ever existed as well as one of the most powerful.

He followed her evasion but did not pursue, to overextend himself would have left him open to a savvy opponent and so his conservative actions had him watch the brunette very carefully and she did not disappoint as her evasion was smartly executed and she recovered, wheeling around and moving to counterattack. "In this the High Council has warned all active Jedi that are on investigations to utilize caution and to sharpen and hone their skills in the duelists arts so that we may be ready should the Sith reveal themselves outside of the Gordian Reach."

She moved her right foot forward but her shoulders and hips suggested a different movement; he decided to see what she had in store and so he thrust for the middle of her right foot and once more Evelyn failed to disappoint. Ben was forced to terminate his thrust, plant the staff end down on the deck and rotate his body around it in a simple movement to avoid the strike to his right side because he felt he didn't have the positioning to actually block the blow. All in all Evelyn had made a very clever maneuver but it was clear she was not done just yet.

Her left side attack was more in line and he inverted his staff to catch hers in a loud clack then immediately he used his reverse end to swing down and strike her left knee blow off target. Now it was his turn and so he used the distance gained from his last parry and swept upwards and diagonally targeting her side just above the right hip, he would drive through the blow into a rapid spin in which he ducked low during the maneuver and sent a reverse thrust behind him aimed towards her right thigh. Using her deflection he'd terminate that spin and reverse it to come around to his original stance but with a powerful blow coming towards her left shoulder just as the start of her collarbone.

There was much that felt different about Evelyn too that was difficult to miss. She had a strong sense of calm surrounding her and it was a smooth reflection of her outer stance; she was making calculated actions and moving on calm reactions instead of eliciting any form of panic or fear and it told the story of how much she'd grown on Permafrost. Her maturity of emotion and through the Force was a significant change and it actually brought Ben a moment of disappointment in that he'd not been there to see her through the hard times; there again he'd been at the behest of the Jedi Council and it hadn't been his choice to leave her on Permafrost. But most of all it brought him a firm feeling of pride in that even through their time apart he felt their connection growing stronger already and the bit that she was his student and that she felt as a confident young woman from her previous feeling of someone that was insecure and filled with fear, it certainly was a difference that he took much stock into.

Her difference in stature was his basis for intensifying her physical training, he felt that she was ready and while he didn't want to push her he knew that testing her limits was the best way for her to learn exactly what she needed to learn. Without strife there was no increase. Centering his hands closer together on the staff he smiled right back at her with a confident look into her eyes, "Multiple attacks in combination are key. To chain proper movements in synchronization with your bodies' stance, the hold of your hips and the angle of your shoulders will allow swifter and more accurate strikes or likewise they will allow you to better provide yourself with defense. Always remember when on defense the less movement you can make is better, for you will expend less energy that way and defense is all about two things; endurance and patience."

Again he moved to the offensive but now with his hands positioned towards the center of his staff he was able to better utilize both ends of the staff to set up multiple rapid strikes in exchange for more powerful ones as a wider grip would provide. "Falling back is a very good tactic when faced with rapid blows. Essentially it is another defensive mechanism, why let your opponent in close to deliver more swift attacks when you can instead give that ground up to fight on your preferred terrain or even to let your opponent exert himself in keeping up a strong offensive." First strike came high in a feint towards her forehead, he had no intention of whacking her face but an effective flinch would open her up nicely. Rotating his staff he launched a low attack coming up to her left hip then next to her right elbow and swiftly adding small strikes back to the right side, right hip, right thigh and finally breaking off towards the left ankle.

As they continued to train with the staves, Evelyn took in everything her Master told her of what she had missed out on. It gave her a rather disturbing feeling deep inside of her. She had indeed heard maybe one too many stories about this Dark Lord of the Sith, Darth Tormentous. His stories were those told to children if they needed to have their dreams haunted with night terrors. Even while she had studied on Permafrost, most of the historical recordings there about this Dark Lord against the Jedi Coalition were unavailable to students like herself. It was simply not for Padawans to know certain stories due to them being too horrific, especially for the Younglings. So Miss Swann knew enough of the basics regarding this devil, but no more or less. She knew there were many stories still left untold, and she thought that was for the better. If she was to know sometime in the future, the Force would guide her to it.

With her own experience first hand with the Sith back when she was a child, it didn't take much to figure out that this man was far more dangerous than the ones she had seen or remembered. He had been able to get the title as one of the most threatening creatures to this galaxy... There was a reason for this to be so. Though, it did concern her slightly that Master Kenobi seemed a bit uneasy about this as well. He didn't show it, but with her practices of the Force, she had become more aware of her surroundings through the Force. Sensing and feeling the small disturbances in the Force, almost in the same manner as the rupture in the ever running rivers of the Force back on Kashyyyk during her training with her Master. All those experiences seemed much more distant to her now. She was much more in control of her feelings this time around than the first time she had a try.

It would seem that he remained rather neutral in his actions as he continued to explain to her, that the High Council needed all Jedi to be on their toes and be ever more so careful and focused on their training and skills. This was indeed a bold move from the Sith's part. What caught her attention was that it seemed as if the High Council itself prepared everyone for an upcoming war in the near future. If this was so, Evy knew she indeed had to improve her fighting skills. Especially with the aid of the Force. She knew her way around a stave without the Force, but with its guidance in her movements, she would become even better. Miss Swann had to trust enough in herself to do just that.

As he parried her counterattacks, she nodded at her Master just as he went from defense to offense. This man would always continue to surprise her one way or another. All this new info is thrown out at her in the middle of sparring. Maybe he wanted to observe her reactions to this news? Whichever reason it was, Evy trusted in his judgment and wasn't letting her emotions towards the Sith cloud her judgment of their present situation. The incoming strike against her made Evy almost throw her stave out in front of her to block his attack as she moved swiftly to her left, eyes locked at him and his posture. He had aimed for her right hip but just barely missed it. More than what could be said of the next move against her which stroke her right thigh forcing her to spin her stave down then upwards in a smooth movement in front of her to redirect his hit towards her left shoulder to the air surrounding them. With this, she stepped back taking a deep breath from the newly added pain throbbing inside her thigh. She really was out of shape. Miss Swann's brows furrowed in disapproval of this mistake made by her as she took another step backward.

The young lady nodded in agreement to what was said, and she took notice of the endurance and patience part. If this was what her Master was looking for from her, then they had started all wrong. She knew that it was important to use multiple weapons, but she also knew that it was also good if one concentrated on a specific kind of weapon and specialized in that specific one.

Once her Master was on his toes again with another offense, Evy knew that he would come at her again with several attacks and no break for her. He was stepping up his game even further than what she herself had anticipated in the beginning. No matter, she would figure it out, or at least try. As long as she kept her cool about this she should be just fine. So she kept the stave close to her being, watching closely every inch of his being as he moved. And then it came down at her like a strike of lightning. Holding her breath, she squinted her eyes, she was ready. The blow against her head made her push the stave up to block it diagonally as she used some of her body strength to force his staff slightly back before making an agile jump to her right and in mid-air as she twisted around in a sideways somersault tried to whack his left ankle before she landed on her feet firmly and ready to deflect his next attack. Due to the rotation of his staff, the attack missed her left hip with just a few inches to spare. Standing firmly on her feet again, the young miss was not willing to let him smack her again with his staff anytime soon if she had anything to say in this. But alas, as she deflected the blow to her elbow, the smaller strikes got her trice before she was able to parry the last blow meant for her left ankle.

Bringing out a small sigh from defeat this round, Evelyn knew she could do better, and she wasn't done. Stepping backward slowly, the brunette kept her defenses up. Whether her Master noticed or not, Evy was heading for some of the other tools hanging on the walls in the training room. She could fend for herself alright with a stave, but the thing she felt most comfortable with was a sword. In a quick movement, she picked up the wooden sword and dropped the stave right in front of her feet. Master Kenobi might be most comfortable with his own staff, but in order for Evy to really get into shape and use her potential, it was necessary for her to use the right weapon meant for her as well. Bending her knees slightly, she took the same stance as the Soresu Form III. She had eagerly studied the different lightsaber forms while she was away, though she would of course not know how to use them with a lightsaber since she hadn't reached that point yet in her training. Only the stances and methods had imprinted themselves into her mind and she had tried to practice those moves every single day as a part of her morning sparring with a few other Padawans on Permafrost. So she thought why not just go with it and see what happens. It can only end rather good or extremely wrong.

Standing there ready for his next move, Evy recalled closely in her mind what her Jedi Master had said earlier. Raising a brow, she tilted her head to the left as if she was confused regarding this new information. This, however, wasn't so. She had felt something with the Force for some time now every time she had been meditating and strengthening her bond with the Force. "I must admit that I have sensed something through the Force itself, and it... was rather disturbing, to say the least. If this Darth Tormentous truly did survive, then I guess we would have to try and make sure he doesn't destroy the galaxy anytime soon..." Smiling kindly at her Master, Evelyn gave a slight nod as well as a form of reassurance to Ben that he shouldn't fear this. She could only imagine what he had been through for all these years. Fighting for peace and justice against such a tyrant mustn't have been an easy feat. "Let's see how it goes for me this time around Master, shall we?"

"Yes," he agreed, "though I am certain that if he survived then he is up to no good." He lowered his staff to the ground despite Evelyn fetching a training sword and he moved towards her to lean the staff against the rack of weapons where he began to fiddle with a few things as he spoke. "As unfortunate as it is to say, I know he's still out there. I can feel him out there. His sort of evil doesn't stay idle for long and lately I have felt tremors through the Force and while I have no proof, I believe it that it is him."

"Let's see how it goes..."

Her words brought him out of his darker thoughts and he turned to her with a smile. "So eager are we? Good, the more rounds we put in the safer I'll feel with you watching my back." He teased of course. Grabbing up a helmet he looked it over once, it was his old flight helmet back from his days as a fighter pilot long before the days of the Galactic Alliance, back when things were far more desperate. It was standard in coloration but the accents were green and on the rear of the helmet it had markings that identified an ace several times over.

He hefted the helmet and lowered the blast shield over the visor and he moved right over to Evelyn and plopped the old helmet down on her head. He moved around to her front and adjusted it to ensure she was totally unable to see anything. "There we are. Fits well!" He commented sarcastically as clearly the helmet was too big but her thick hair did help in that regard. It would do well enough for their purposes in this next lesson.

Moving back to his staff he took it up and playfully spun it about and gave Evy a firm tap on the helmeted forehead. "Alright my young Padawan. You've already proven yourself well enough with your eyes. But many situations we'll find ourselves in, we can't rely on our eyes. Instead we must trust in the Force to be our eyes and ears." Again he moved for a cheap shot, yet again though it was playful to rile her up. His staff came in and poked her shoulder, it wasn't overly gentle but it was enough to keep the lesson going. Teaching Evelyn in a contained environment was all well and good but if he tested her patience or otherwise stressed her then when the real swords started swinging she'd be capable of holding her own.

"Your eyes, ears, nose and even the tastes on the air can easily deceive you." His staff came out and smacked her sword, "Get it up." He circled her now, speaking seriously now yet stern enough. "Don't trust them. Instead you should calm your mind and trust in the Force to guide you."

"Sooth your thoughts and close out all else. Take in nothing but your opponent and you must reach forth and touch his consciousness. You must recognize the signals that your opponent gives off and notice the moment before the strike. There will be a moment in time when the Force calls out to you. In this moment there is danger coming close at hand and the Force is granting you a warning. Hear this call, Evelyn." Gently he moved and waved his staff harmlessly around in a few basic orbits as he also continued to circle her. "Quiet your mind. Hear what the Force has to show you."

His staff snapped out in a sharp strike aimed for her left shin. If it connected the blow wouldn't be gentle. But this lesson was one of the most important that Evy would ever learn and there had to be consequences should she not fully grasp the lesson.

Evelyn could only agree with Master Kenobi regarding Tormentous. Being a Sith, after all, he would most likely want to cause the galaxy a great amount of chaos and discord if he was still out there. But if her Master could still feel him, and with the trembles she had been able to feel herself through the Light Side of the Force, then it was quite certain that this monster lurked out there in the shadows waiting for his moment to strike. But now was no time for dreading. They had to prepare themselves for what was to come. Her Master had been right in pushing her limits already. She had to be able to have his back if the worrying thought of such an encounter would happen in the near future.

Noticing her Master lowering his staff, the young lady crooked her head and moved to stand normally. His teasing comment wasn't really new to her. Evelyn merely shook her head a few times before chuckling softly. "Yeah, I would just let you be on your own completely." Her tone sarcastic yet playful, Evy gazed curiously at the helmet, wondering what he was up to now. Having a feeling of where this was going she could feel a slight uncertainty wash over her, but she dismissed it after acknowledging that it was there. It was alright for her to feel that way as long as she didn't let it control her, just as Ben had taught her back on Kashyyyk. Taking a deep breath, her thoughts had distracted her from the present, and as Kenobi moved closer to her to place the helmet over her head, the brunette knew she was about to have her training increased in difficulty.

Unable to see anything but pitch-black darkness, she had a feeling that what was about to happen next wasn't going to be an easy walk in the park. "I would certainly say it does Master, thank you." She replied back with just as much sarcasm as he had given her. But that moment was short-lived as she jerked in surprise from the sudden poke on the helmet now upon her head. Miss Swann listened and wondered to herself if she would be able to pull this off or fail many times before finally getting the hang of it. Only time and much practice would tell. Then she felt another soft jab on her shoulder this time. Was he trying to provoke her? Blinking a few times underneath the helmet's visor, she felt him smack at the sword she wielded. He was getting serious now. She could feel it through the Force, the slight change in his voice and aura emitting from him.

She closed her eyes since her sight was of no use to her in this given situation, and the young lady took a deep breath before exhaling slowly. He wanted her to call out to the Force for help in this, and she was more than happy to oblige. She wouldn't be able to defend herself without it. She was quite skilled with a sword, but not like this. Evelyn felt the Force flow through her and reached out further in her mind to become more aware of her surroundings, using the Force as her sight. She could hear him move around her, circling her while he spun his staff around in the air. Her brows furrowed as she stood there with her sword up in front of her in a defensive stance. He was toying with her mind to teach her a rather valuable lesson. One she now could understand as to why he did it. Her connection to the Force itself would strengthen even more, and she would learn how to work together with it as a team.

Evelyn remembered back on Kashyyyk how she was able to sense life around her and how to sense a rupture or small disturbance or imbalance through the Force itself. Her logic and sense of mind thought that this could now be used in a way to her advantage. Not to speak of how she had always had this twisting feeling deep down in her stomach when the danger had found her. Now was the time to use all of this experience. Her breathing was calm and steady. Her posture didn't show any sign of uncertainty or fear. She was ready.

Sensing her Master through the Force, she was waiting patiently. His effort of trying to rile her up and lash out at him in defense and confusion had failed. She wouldn't budge from the spot. Instead, through the Force, Evelyn felt his aura, and she allowed the Force to guide her. Letting her mind follow his movements, still standing in a defensive stance, she sensed his heartbeat through the Force to let his own body give away his position. His heartbeat was steady, but the pulsation and a slight increase in this pulsation from his movement gave her enough information. She couldn't sense what he was thinking as she had not learned this yet. But he was close, he was patient as well and waited for the right moment to strike at her. And she knew it wouldn't be a mere gentle smack across her hands. Then, only with a mere second to react, it was as if she had a bad feeling wash over her body and mind. Like the Force trembled around her and through her, warning her of something in close proximity. It was the same feeling she was ever so familiar with, so she reacted. It came naturally to her as she felt the Force wanting her not to move from the spot just yet, but merely point the tip of her sword down to her left in a quick and swift movement. Then it hit. The staff and her wooden sword clashed together, and this surprised her as Evelyn realized how hard that blow would have been right on her left shin. Thankfully she was able to block it through the guidance of the Force.

Taking a step back, she didn't feel overconfident, but she felt ready to continue this new training method, as she slowly moved into the defensive stance of Soresu Form III once again. She trusted the Force to guide her further, to show her what she needed to see in due time.

"Very good," Ben announced as Evelyn not only completed the task appointed to her but she managed to excel at it and prove herself accomplished at the techniques of Danger Sense. "But, there is still more we can do here." He approached her and removed the helmet, setting it back down to the equipment rack and from there he moved to the wall and set down the training staff to pick up his actual light weapon. Reaching up to the head of the staff he uncoupled the body. Replacing the staff to the wall he again approached Evelyn and at a safe distance he began the next portion of the lesson.

"The weapon of a Jedi Knight, the lightsaber. As Jedi we ever stand in the way of evil and tyranny and while we are devoted to keeping the peace and maintaining that which is right, there are times where we must take a stand and do whatever is necessary to ensure the safety and security of others. At that point, we reveal the tools we use to enforce that peace." With a snap-hiss Ben engaged his lightsaber and from the emitter came a smooth yellow beam that instantly illuminated the area with its hue. The humming energy was solid. As for the feeling given off by the activation itself, Ben and Evelyn both would feel the soothing feeling radiating from the lightsaber itself due from the Light within the crystal.

He moved the blade some to show Evelyn what it would be like and he even moved it to the training rack where with one fluid motion he waved the saber up and down to run it through a small piece of metal as if it was inconsequential. The cut off piece fell to the deck molten red. Ben had done this to show Evelyn that the lightsaber was a very serious tool. Calmly he then extinguished it and turned the emitter to face himself. He extended his hand and handed the weapon to Miss Swann. "You are familiar with swords, of that we have established. But a lightsaber is a completely different animal entirely. When you are ready, turn it on."

Patiently he offered Evelyn the time she needed to activated the blade and once she did so he began. "The Jedi must be careful when using the lightsaber. Without understanding exactly what the lightsaber is capable of it can be equally as dangerous to yourself as it is to others around you, both friend and foe." Ben took up position in front of Evelyn a safe distance away and he nodded to her. "Notice the blade it completely weightless, which means you do not feel the movement of the blade at all. Moving the weapon as fast as you may rotate your wrist and the blade will also respond. This is precisely why the weapon is dangerous because it does not have the weight of a sword as you are trained in. You can't tell when and where the tip and edge is at any given time."

He instructed her to maneuver the lightsaber in a very basic defensive orbit and posture that she could gain the feeling of the weapon. Next though he moved to the most important portion of the lesson. "To know the tool you are using, you must know yourself. Trust in the Force and let it guide you. Reach within yourself and focus. Calm yourself and feel the lightsaber itself. How the energy courses through the hilt and emerges from the emitter. In time you will begin to sense to blade itself and that is where you must be. Sense the blade and you must go beyond that point for it must be a second nature to you. Continue your defensive orbit and feel the blade as it moves. Know it. Let the lightsaber be an extension of yourself."

Standing there waiting for Master Kenobi's next move, Evelyn was as focused as one could be. She could feel the Force around her and deep within, however, the slight tremors she felt moments ago in the Force were rather vague now. Wondering slightly as to why this would be, she heard him commend her once again. Taking a deep breath she tapped out of her focus and thanked the Force for its guidance in this lesson. It was quite intriguing as the young student was fired up now and ready to test her limits further. Since it came to her so naturally so far, young Miss Swann couldn't help but wonder what else she could improve with herself.

As Master Kenobi removed the helmet from her head, Evelyn opened her eyes slowly and returned her posture into a normal relaxed position while observing her Master. Blinking curiously at Ben reaching the top of his weapon to then detach it from the staff itself, she tilted her head slightly to the side, her hazel eyes staring at the part of his weapon in his hands. Is that... Within her mind, the brunette couldn't believe what she saw, as she listened closely to what her Master had to say. From mere surprise from the sudden snap-hiss, Evy's entire body jerked from the sound as the blade sprung to life and emitted a beautiful yellow glow around it, colouring the room with its light. "Holy smokes! That is SO beautiful! Wow! Sorry, but I've only heard about the Jedi from bedtime stories if you remember, so seeing the actual weapon the Jedi uses... this is truly stunning... and... also weirdly feeling so very familiar..." Blinking confused a few times, Evy felt something from the lightsaber in Kenobi's hand as he swung it around a few times to show her how it was handled. The buzzy humming sound emitting from the beaming blade of the weapon was extraordinary. It was almost as if her subconscious felt it completely through the Force itself. It was as if she wanted to follow her mentor's every move he made with that weapon. Why... why was she so drawn to that weapon? It literally made no real sense to her.

Even when he swung the blade up and down the training rack and she saw the damage it could do, with the piece of metal now lying on the durasteel floor fizzling aggressively with a light cloud of smoke erupting from its core as part of it was melted, the young lady wasn't nervous. Her Master had shown her how dangerous it could be if not careful, but she was always careful and well prepared. She always calculated and thought things through before acting, but mostly because it was just a part of her personality to be that way in general. Evy would make sure to not lose any fingers. How she managed to be this calm however, surprised her as she did remember having seen this kind of weapon before just with a deep crimson red hue instead. The Sith that had slaughtered her family, they carried such tools, but now with her studies and the connection with the Force, Evelyn felt at peace to not let her fear take over. This conclusion made her smile as she realized she had truly moved on from that dark memory of death and destruction in her past.

Once the beast of the hilt was deactivated, Miss Swann realized that he was going to teach her how to use a real lightsaber... The excitement was almost too overwhelming for her to comprehend in her poor head. For a moment there she felt like a child celebrating their birthday. This was crazy! She had read so much about the Force and lightsaber combat styles while on Permafrost, so to finally see this with her own eyes... She felt giddy and positive.

Taking a deep breath, Evelyn shook off the overly dominant feeling of excitement, and instead tried to focus on the weapon she was now holding in her grasp. So much responsibility was weighted into this weapon but it was almost as light as a feather. It was indeed not anything near the same as a vibrosword. Clenching her teeth, Evy wasn't sure how to do this. This was one of the biggest steps she had taken yet. To actually hold this tremendously dangerous weapon in her own hands...
Walking over to the training rack she placed the wooden sword back where it belonged before she moved back to where she stood previously. Miss Swann looked closer at the lightsaber in her hand, the hilt beautifully crafted, and its design simple. She felt so honored to hold her Master's lightsaber, since she had read that when a Jedi construct their lightsaber, part of their own energy is molded into the weapon itself, making it unique and their own entirely.

Finally after a bit of time, the brunette had gathered up the courage to activate the blade. She pressed the on-switch and with a snap-hiss the yellow beam sprung back to life. Swallowing a lump of saliva that had gathered in her throat, Evelyn felt overwhelmed by all of this once again. The soft humming emitting from the beaming blade was quite soothing, relaxing even, and calmed her nerves as she looked at her Master, ready for instruction.

With the mention of the blade being weightless, she had to admit that this was true. She could not feel it from the slight weight in her hand. It was only the hilt itself that she could physically feel. She could feel a slight tremble of nervousness within herself and she closed her eyes for a moment to calm herself and find her inner peace as she had taught herself on Permafrost. Immediately she felt her slightly tensed muscles in her body relax and she could feel how her slight insecurity disappeared. She could do this, she just had to do exactly as Master Kenobi told her and she would be fine. It was not that young Evelyn was afraid of this weapon, she merely had much respect for it and what it was capable of doing.

Opening her eyes then moving into a defensive stance, Evy followed suit with her Master's movements in how to handle the lightsaber, and she had to admit that this wasn't easy at all. The basic defensive posture and how she had to move the hilt and blade in orbital movements... She wasn't sure how to do it, as sometimes it was as if the blade itself had a will of its own. Taking another deep breath and exhaling slowly, Evelyn tried to dig deep into her own self and her connection to the Force. Allowing it to flow through her as a current of light, as she maneuvered the humming blade in slow and soft fluid motions up and down, from left to right and drawing the number eight in the air before making an X, then repeating it all over. She had to feel the weapon as a part of her, like an extended but extremely dangerous hand. She was one with herself, but it was still a challenge for Evelyn to really get the feeling of this.

As Ben finished speaking, she still felt slightly uncertain. So instead of using her eyes and her senses like she had so far in this lesson, she closed her eyes, letting the Light Side of the Force still consume her being and feeling everything around her from a different point of view. Just as she had learned from the previous training of sensing danger through the Force as well as sensing life around her, be it an object or a living being, she would now try to let go of all the visuals. Letting go of everything, she trusted in the Force as much as she knew it trusted her to follow it, to let her know when and where to move and act accordingly. Calming her mind and focusing on the ever-flowing strings around her, Evelyn drew her subconscious mind closer to the blade of the weapon. Feeling its current energy streaming through the endless waves of the Force. Her brows furrowed as she took notice of the difference in its presence now. Through the Force, its beam was far brighter and astounding. She could feel it. Its energy starting to move effortlessly through the strings of the Force and through to her own string connected. Miss Swann felt it throughout her whole body, every single fiber in her being. The Living Force allowed her to feel everything around her here and now, letting her feel the beam pulsating like a beating heart all while the Unifying Force guided her to a better understanding of this beast held gently, yet with a firm enough grip as one would have if they were holding a bird within their grasp.

Without thinking she nodded, acknowledging the Force to help her. She began to move through the basic defense posture again, still with her eyes closed she inhaled and exhaled for every move, letting it become a fluid motion as she could feel the blade move through the air, like cutting through blue butter with a butter knife. By the time she saw it herself, she had now moved around with the lightsaber as if it was a part of herself. Her motions with the hilt and blade as one, she felt surprisingly at ease, almost like it was second nature to her. It was such a different sensation than what she had ever felt before in her life...

Everything almost stood still for the young Padawan as she deactivated the soft humming, letting the blade return to its resting place through the hilt's emitter. Standing in a casual stance she opened her eyes to look over at her Master. "That... was an indescribable feeling Master. I have no idea if I did it right, I just let go and let the Force guide my actions..."

"Excellent," he commented sincerely with a smile, accepting his lightweapon back from the Padawan and setting it back to its position at the head of his staff with a firm click. He had appreciated her comment earlier about the beauty of the blade and he too thought as much. Since creating his saber and meditating on the crystal, when the adegan kyber crystal had reflected his inner being and had become the golden yellow it is today, he had held a fondness of it. "You don't need my confirmation Evy, use your feelings," he added with confidence, "you know if you've done right in this task."

Turning away he accessed the wall panel and checked their flight progress. "Looks like we're due to arrive at our destination in a few minutes. We'll likely be on the planetside within an hour, you should get ready." As they were cooling down from the very active training session he could feel the slight burn of his muscles and the fatigue in his breath, he could easily tap into the Force to instantly rejuvenate his weariness but as he had come to realize it was often good to not rely on the Force at all even though he had the ability to do so. This manner of inaction through the Force often brought him closer to it in some ways.

Moving through the corridors of his ship he took several minutes to get cleaned up, dress in a set of fresh robes and retrieve his heavy charcoal grey cloak before finally heading back into the cockpit and he arrived to sit down just as the 'Talon' broke out of hyperspace and arrived before the world of Ossus.

Instantly the Light touched him, a welcoming feeling to arrive back to this world after so very long. Largely Ossus had been abandoned with only minor colonies dotting the landscape after the Empire had attacked it over a decade earlier which had caused unbelievable damage and devastation. Today the scars were still there but the land was taking the land back and the peaceful Ossus natives were slowly rebuilding. While the Jedi no longer called Ossus their home, the history of Ossus would never be forgotten.

Setting course for the surface, Ben sat back and enjoyed the view as the YT cruised forwards. Soon they'd be planetside and their next task in Evelyn's training would begin.

As her Master took back his weapon, she smiled as well at his statement. He was right. Evelyn knew she had completed this training correctly, she could feel it deep within herself. Her connection to the Force was growing each moment. The Light Side guiding her down this challenging path she had chosen for herself.

Giving an affirmative nod at her teacher that she had understood, she bowed respectfully as a thank you for the training session before she herself moved down the ship's corridors to her room. She was exhausted, to say the least. And the places Ben had managed to get hits through her defenses were sore and throbbing slightly from minor pain. Her body was damp from burning energy and exuding sweat. She had less than an hour to get ready and she really needed a shower. Evelyn felt like a smelling Bantha on a blazing day in the deep Dune Sea on Tatooine.

Reaching her room, the young lady wasted no time. She went to shower and get cleaned up before she found an additional simple training outfit to wear. A warm comforting feeling from the Force washed over her for a moment as she wondered where Ben was taking them to. Then she took on a new pair of Jedi clothing she had customized to be a bit more to her taste without being disrespectful to the Jedi Order itself. Her utility belt with all the necessary things she needed on a trip, her really comfortable leather boots and finally her grey-ish robes. There. Done and done. She was ready. Grabbing her blaster pistol and her vibrosword, she attached them to her person before leaving her room to head to the cockpit. It had all in all taken her about thirty-five minutes to get ready.

Once she stepped into the flight deck, Miss Swann found Master Kenobi sitting back and watching the view of this planet they were approaching. Moving closer to take a seat next to Ben, she too sat and took in the view. Being silent for a while, Evelyn then contemplated what they were to do here. She then came with a query. "Where are we headed Master, and for what reason are we here?"
