Kalidor Freight - 0721

Post by Ben Kenobi » Sun Jul 04, 2021 4:06 am

Checking the manifest for a third and final time, the aged Jedi Master deactivated his datapad and put it aside. There was nothing further left to do now but to launch from the orbital platform and give the command to initiate the convoy's heading. From the Roche System the Kalidor Convoy would move along the Prelemian Trade Route and on towards the world of Ossus where Ben Kenobi himself was overseeing the resurrection of the Jedi Enclave there.

One freighter filled to the brim with electronics and the other was half structural steel and half droids of a construction type in some manner or another. They were filled completely and prepared for immediate shipping. No time would be wasted in the rebuilding of that ancient temple.

Some day Ben hoped he would see it once more brought back to its former glory and he could once more roam the halls that he had as a Padawan...

Space was big. Ships were little. Cargo was smelly. Zechs had a breather. He wasn't sure where this Kalidor Freight fly group thing was heading, but the old YT and its shiny XJ were here to add a little to it. He was in fact waiting in space for the rest of the group to arrive and do that little hyperspace boogie all ships did to make space a little less big than it used to be. The news made it feel extra small, but that could easily be avoided by not paying attention to it at all.

Space. It was big. Do-dads made it feel a little less big. Zechs went through the tech checklist to make sure the do's didn't fight the dad's and end up banging him into the afterlife. It was too early for that. It could wait till after he had a drink.

Marlith walked around the inside of her yt 2000 it was to dull and grey. She patted the ship.
"Welcome to the group big girl.
She checked on the cargo in her cargo bay she liked to see the cargo to make sure it was there she looked over everything carefully.
"That looks good"
She checked her fuel levels and nodded
"Everything looks good"
She put some green paint on her hands and made some hand prints on the walls.
"Looks a bit better"
She wipe the paint onto her jump suit and stretched. Her dark green eyes looked around at the ship that now smelled like wet paint and smiled. She then walked to the cock pit and sat in the pilot seat.

Leaving one of the many and very massive asteroid colonies of Roche, the twin freighters cruised away and into open space. Shields came online and sensors powered up, engines boomed and cast the large freighters swifter out into the deep. All systems were in the green and Ben could not feel the pressing feeling of danger out there, perhaps the forecast for trouble also was showing something nice and easy too.

Coming out into the clear the sensors picked up a pair of the sleek YT 2000 light freighters that Ben himself was so fond of, they carried in their flanks a pair of even sleeker starfighters. A speedy RZ-1 A-wing Interceptor and a tried and true Incom T-65XJ X-wing. Openly Ben welcomed the additional company into the convoy, safety in numbers and a solid means to get cargo where it needed to go. “All ships, jump coordinates plotted. Standby.” Ben went over to coordinates one last time before priming his hyperdrive. “We’ll see you all when we get there.” He mentioned warmly. “Jump on my mark; mark!”

The dual Kalidor Freighters shuddered as their drives were engaged. Bright flashes of light reported from their thrusters. And in an instant they had been right here, and now suddenly they were over there. Shooting off in the blink of an eye into hyperspace…

Ships went fast. Ships jumped into hyperspace. Ships go to destination. Zechs sat in cockpit. Zechs read good book. It was about giant metal lizard who was king of other giant metal lizards. And giant metal lizard could turn into giant man with big nose.

Meanwhile, the pilot droid did the real work. It kept them on course and alive. Some trips gave it time to think. Others kept it busy every nanosecond. This was the later. Zechs wasn’t being much of a help. He seemed distant like this was below him. Not that he had any idea of what was in the cargo hold. The droid was sure he hadn’t read the manifest.

Zechs leaned back. He closed eyes. He took quick nap as YT flew very fast. Space got really small.

Marlith punched in the coordinets on the word mark. She looked outside at hyper space it had been a while since she had gone through it marlith stayed in the pilot seat staying vigelent. She stretch Popping her back a bit. The green paint on her jump suits stained her seat. She looked at the blueish white light of hyperspace before starting to clean her blaster. It needed a good clean and now was the perfect time to clean it. As she cleaned she would look up every once in awhile. She finished cleaning her blaster and refilled it's gas.

Hours blended the trip into something much like the blur of the journey through hyperspace. Just one big blue montage of light and thunderous noise courtesy of the powerful engines of the BFF-1 Bulk Freighter. More than thunderous it seemed that it was a rhythmic thrum that nearly put the elder Jedi Master to sleep… no… it did put him to sleep and not even the chime declaring the exit of hyperspace could pull him out of his nap zone. The pair of Bulk Freighters were dragged out of their jump by the navicomputer and that was about the time when Ben came too.

Seeing the change from hyperspace to realspace when he was not prepared made him almost instantly nauseous and he flopped backwards into his seat with his eyes closed and a grumble on his lips. “Droid, initiate the automated approach. I’m going back to sleep.”

Together the freighters oriented towards Ossus and began falling into a secured orbit, eventually to be grounded on the surface where the work on the Ossus Enclave could continue.

Zechs came out hyperspace. It go from fast to slow. Ship did spooky turn around primary convoy ships. It was a new day out there somewhere fit for a rainbow full of profit and like totally tasty stuff. It was good day.

The droid prepared for what would come. The landing. The unloading. The departing. It was a nice change of pace far away from the pew Lee’s Zechs tended to get them drawn into. This was a peaceful transit and dump. It doubted there’d be any profit for them, but it was not the point. The droid has written two sonnets while traveling and might squeeze in a third before touchdown.

The BFF-1 Freighters of Kalidor Freight had finally touched down on the surface of Ossus as the base of the Eocho Mountain Range where a small yet sprawling complex was being erected by the sweat and raw effort of the Coalition personnel. This was of course not the Enclave itself but rather a staging area for materials and components and all of the like. Ben walked out onto the surface of Ossus and took in a breath of the fresh air surrounding him, it was peaceful despite the activity. It seemed Ossus ran on its own time.

Looking back to the freighters he had arrived on the droids were unloading the large crates and containers, busy toiling away at their own affairs and Ben no longer paid them any mind. He began searching for the Chief Engineer on duty so he could get this load signed for and Kalidor Freight could receive their payday...

They landed on Ossus and unloaded the mysterious cargo that had stunk up not one but two cargo areas on the ship. This left plenty of time for Zechs to have a staring contest with his droid co-pilot. He also wondered why no one had questioned asked why tehre was no physical pilot in the XJ. Ghosts couldn't fly, and most people didn't trust droids as far as they could throw them with such vital tasks, unless supervised. Not that this had anything to do with anything. In fact, it was pointless as is this thought. Aren't you glad you read this post?

Seriously, Zechs had nothing to do. He was a pilot and other things. Moving cargo wasn't his job. Droids and dock workers did that. So all this basically amounts to nothing. Every word of it a pointless exercise in filling up space, while less real people did not at all real work. But it was work, because some other guy was getting paid for it. That was good for them. The cargo would likely help someone somewhere do something for some reason. Zechs was ok with that.

Anyway, the cargo was unloaded. Dues were done. Duty fulfilled. It wasn't the best day or trip, but it was far from the worst. He "died" on those. He was getting close to due for another. Uh oh.
