The Chase - Race Mini-Game Trial Run
First things first, I know that this isn't the intended use of this forum, but it's the only unused forum on the site, so this is as good of a place as any to give this race mini-game another trial run.
This thread is announcing that we will be testing out a race mini-game that Jay came up with. Using Jay's idea for this game, I created a workbook that we'll maintain and manage the mini-game from. Truth be told, we were right about to finish the first trial run on a hidden forum on the Yuku site, when everything went to crap. I fixed some small formula bugs in the workbook, and I think we're even more ready than we were before, but I want to make sure that this game is going to hold up on a bigger test run.
This game can accommodate up to 10 racers, so I'm looking for volunteers. Testing this requires a pretty light workload; I only ask that you pay attention to what is going on and give us suggestions at the end to see if this thing needs some tweaking. If you can't commit to participating actively, you should not volunteer. More detail on what is actually required of you below.
Health:
Each participant has health, valued in HP, either a value of 5 or a value of 8, depending on their SLIU XP. If you have 750XP or more in the SLIU, you have 8HP. If you have less than 750XP in the SLIU, you have 5HP. If at any time a player reaches 0HP, their pod racer or speeder explodes and they are eliminated from the chase.
Initial Position:
To begin the race, we must determine initial position. Each player will have a D6 rolled for them. The result of their roll is their current position. Players can share position, as that essentially means that you're neck-and-neck with someone else.
Every time a player "accelerates" they will add D4 to that position. At the end of the chase, whoever has the highest position score wins the race. The chase will last 10 rounds, or legs.
Commands:
Commands are issued privately to the Chase Moderator. During each leg a player may do two of three things:
Attack
Defend
Accelerate
Attacking and Defending:
Attacking subtracts D3 from the position of the target player if the attack successfully hits.
In order to attack, a player chooses a target player. This player must be of the same or higher position. The attacking player rolls 2D6 to determine their attack score. If the target is more than 6 positions higher than the attacker, subtract 1 from the attack score. If the target is defending, subtract 1 from the attack score. If the attack score is equal to or higher than 8, the attacker hits and the target player suffers -1HP and -D3 to their position. Regardless of how many times a player is attacked during a leg, their will only ever suffer -1HP and -D3 to their position one time. Further successful attacks after the first have no effect. If multiple racers select to attack the same target, it makes very little difference in which order the attacks are processed, so there is no need for a tiebreaker. Each racer may only suffer a successful attack once in each leg. There is no bonus or incentive for causing damage (yet).
Defending is the simplest command. It only does one thing, and that is to reduce attack score by 1.
Accelerating:
Accelerating adds D4 to your position. It is possible to accelerate twice during a leg, however any player doing so will instantly suffer -1HP. This penalty does not apply to the players with the lowest 4 position scores. Please note that all acceleration commands are processed first each leg, so any attacks subsequently launched during that leg are potentially affected by distance penalties.
That's all I've got for explanation! I expect you to have a few questions after reading this, but we do have some experienced racers here, and I am willing to help everyone along on this trial run. If you have any questions, please let me know. Let's talk this thing through and then take it for another rip!!!!!!

Re: The Chase - Race Mini-Game Trial Run
So that you're all aware going into this, there are no rewards planned for the mini-game (especially the trial run) at this time.
Though that doesn't stop you all from betting on racers, I guess.

So you guys really think this Galaxy can bear another Ani podracing? I got a bad feeling about this...
Position 3 for me.
Position 3 for me.
