Opening the Door - Viso Gelgan

Post by Ben Kenobi » Fri May 03, 2019 8:58 pm

***Mid Rim, Chommell Sector***
***Naboo System, Naboo - O-17***

The Corellian YT 2000 Light Freighter Talon broke out of hyperspace to the view of a true gem set amidst a sea of glittering stars. Vibrant colors were radiant over every breathtaking glimpse of the world known as Naboo. The seas of sapphire blue were resplendent against the verdant trees and forests that stretched across vast swathes of land only to be etched by the surrounding plains of lighter greens with their rolling hills of miles upon miles of terrain. Even the swampy regions with their browns and grays seemed to only accentuate the beauty of this world even further.

“Welcome to Naboo,” Ben announced with a smile to Viso Gelgan who was sitting in the copilot’s chair, “Capital of the Galactic Alliance and home to our free democracy.” He pointed off into the distance, away from the world itself and into the shadow of the planet that was cast from the sun. There in the depths of the gloom was another orbital body, this one far smaller than Naboo itself. “Veruna,” he informed, “location of the Galactic Alliance’s foremost Military Base. It is a joint command of Army, Navy and Special Forces. Very impressive.” They flew forward for a few moments and as they continued their course there came a glittering sparkle from the moon Veruna; the starships of the Galactic Alliance Navy were starting to come into view. Foremost of their number was a massive vessel that defied reasonable scale and none that surrounded it could even hope to match its magnificent splendor. Obvious to point it out among the rest, Ben gave the name of the ship. “That’s the Independence, flagship of the Alliance Navy. She’s a Marquis-class Star Defender, the biggest of her class.”

Indeed, the Independence drew itself to an impressive 17,000 meters (17 km) in length and her organically unique build, courtesy of the Mon Calamarian Shipyards, made her a work of art against the typical mindset of ship building which was angular and sharp. All around the mighty starship were other Mon Calamarian Star Cruisers and even other modern ships such as the Nebula-class Star Cruisers.

The heads up display (HUD) on the Talon lit up, an incoming transmission being hailed from Veruna Flight Control. It was nothing more than a request of credentials of which Ben supported and they were subsequently accepted with the flight controller offering up a ‘welcome to Naboo,’ before the communication was terminated. “Well,” Ben began, “looks like we’re all set to make for the surface my friend.”

Taking up the controls the weathered Jedi Master eased the Talon onto a pre-designated flight path and within moments of acceleration and more spectacular sights, the looming orb of Naboo filled the viewport to entirety. Easing the flight path to that they would not burn up on entry, the Talon coasted down into the blue hue of the surrounding skies and soon enough they’d penetrated the clouds with some slight turbulence though nothing too severe, if anything it was the feeling of rapid descent and deceleration.

Their flight came down beneath the clouds and now they were given the full view of Naboo’s brilliance. Theed itself, capital of the planet, lay to their right and Viso was given the proud view of the Palatial Security Hangar that sat over the cliff edge alongside a tall waterfall. Theed itself was not their destination however, and so the Talon continued its flight for another ten or so minutes until their true destination finally came into view; set within the foothills of Theed’s outskirts lay a humble and simply assorted set of buildings encircling a small tower that only stretched upwards by three levels. A wall surrounded the perimeter and there was a large gatehouse to the fore of the facility. “Viso, this is the Jedi Enclave of Naboo. If you do not mind, I would like to stop off here for a few moments. We’ll take in supplies, refuel the ship, and obtain a few of the replacement parts you pointed out to me for the Talon.” He paused as he maneuvered the ship towards the encircled buildings, though the landing pad was outside the walls, which was where the ship would find its resting place.

Kicking in the landing sequence, the YT’s foot pads descended and locked into position while the underside repulsorlift coils spooled up to arrest the descent of the ship against the gravity of the world once the engines were no longer capable of supporting the ship themselves. Gently touching down on the pad, Ben quickly went through the power down protocols but did not finish them totally, he stood up and referred to the Dug. “R5 will handle the rest. If you’d come with me then I would appreciate it.” He started off through the ship, donning his old weathered cloak and taking up his walking staff once more.

“While we are here at the Enclave,” he stopped at the exit ramp and turned to Viso as it descended to the ground, “with your permission, I would like to you meet the Jedi Council. I am curious to have you stand before them Viso, since I’ve met you I have had a good feeling about you that I would like to follow up on.” He held up a hand, “No poking or prodding, just a few questions is all it will be.”

Sitting forward, Viso’s small frame nearly bursted through the straps that held him into the seat. The straps had served their purpose for allowing some feeling of safety and security as he had only experienced a couple of jumps to hyperspace before. As thankful as he was to have said straps, the Dug was nearly bursting through them to get a glimpse of the greenest planet he had ever seen. The planet seemed to be an exuberant beacon of life in the darkest depths of space.

“Naboooo,” Viso repeated back with an emphasis on the tail end of the word.

The young Dug didn’t recognize some words Mr. Kenobi was trying to relay. The Alliance or Democracy was two words Viso figured he better look up once he can find the time. More titles of bases and ships were disclosed to the Dug that had no significance to him at this point in time. Regardless, Viso would listen intently to hopefully one day know these types of bases and star ships.

The Dugs eyes grew wide as Mr. Kenobi pulled into view of the beautiful piece of machinery that he called the Independence. The giant star ship had Viso in awe; the amount of work they must have had to put into that machine was astounding to him. He hoped one day Mr. Kenobi would take him onboard the Independence so Viso could get a look inside.

Looking around, Viso could notice a cluster of smaller, yet similar model ships floating around the Independence. The way it looked with the amount of ships and Mr. Kenobi being affiliated with this Alliance, his chances for boarding one of these glorious pieces of machinery seemed to be high. This excited the Dug to the point where he was almost disappointed that the Talon began its descent toward Naboo.

Viso hunched himself forward, nearly choking himself with the safety straps again, to get a fuller view of Naboo’s sublime environment. A bustling city lay before them, a stark contrast to the slums of Coruscant they had just come from. The Dug assumed that was their destination, yet the YT kept soaring through the clouds. The journey was short as they finally reached a small amount of older buildings a safe distance away from the giant city.

Following the man’s lead, Viso unstrapped himself and hobbled on behind him. “Yes, more parts to fix I need,” he stated as the two moved toward the exit of the YT.

Watching Mr. Kenobi grab his cloak, Viso wondered if he could buy a robe similar to it on this planet. Viso figured he would look nice standing next to his new boss in matching uniforms.

His thoughts were interrupted as they both reached the bottom of the ramp. He looked around at the enclave before coming back to Mr. Kenobi’s question.

“Yes! I will answer council questions. I have question for them too!” Visto exclaimed, referring to the question of where he could buy his cloak.

Viso hopped a few steps forward before turning around to meet Mr. Kenobi still on the ramp, awaiting eagerly to see the Council.

Shortly after arriving they made way into the Enclave and they were swiftly admitted into the Council Chambers at the top of the three tiered tower. The short journey from the Talon to here had gone completely without incident though it had been difficult to keep Viso focused for there were so many new things to be seen and touched. One particular instance was an ongoing lesson consisting of seven small children and every one of them were of a different species. They were being serviced by a tall male Nautolan wearing similar robes and cloak as that which Ben wore though he was without the staff and instead had a small cylinder attached to his belt. They greeted the incoming Jedi Master and Dug tag-along before continuing on with their lesson for the day.

Finally arriving within the Council Chambers it was a calm setting despite the size of the room. Massive windows framed by Naboo Oak walls displayed the endless greenery of the world. A circular room with five seats spaced on the north wall in a semi circle to view incoming guests. Two seats were occupied, the other three empty.

“Masters,” Ben opened with a respectful bow as he presented Viso before the Council of the Naboo Enclave, “I bring Viso Gelgan of Malastare. We crossed paths on Coruscant where I was given the chance to observe his character first hand and he has impressed me much in the following days I’ve had in his company. He is not well spoken in Galactic Basic and outside of being a mechanic he has little experience in the world, but I feel he would make an exceptional candidate. I’ll add, that his skills as a mechanic are exceptional and he was able to patch my hyperdrive back together with few of the necessary tools needed to get the job done.” It was indeed a feat that an uneducated Dug from Malastare was capable of tooling together a very intricate piece of technology, this would not go without notice. Though being a great gear head did not make one a suitable candidate for Jedi training.

Aloura Haas, Mon Calamarian Jedi Master and one of the only two Council Members present here in this room which accounted for five, nodded to Viso in greeting. “Welcome to Naboo, Viso. I am Aloura Haas, on behalf of the Jedi Coalition we are pleased to have you here today. Thank you Master Kenobi, your honesty is appreciated as ever.” A recommendation by Ben also carried much weight within the Jedi Council and it would go to their decisions in the end. She eyed the Dug over for a moment with curiosity, “Viso, you seem to be advanced in age. Beginning training at your state of development would be unusual. Typically the training starts when the child is but three or younger. Do you think you are capable of learning at a rapid enough pace and still be able to retain the knowledge and maintain the standards?” She paused thoughtfully, “Your inexperience is not as much an issue with your continuation here as much as it sets you at a disadvantage when dealing with the day-in and day-out of our work. It worries me though that you may be overly willing to see the best in people and fall prey to someone that is duplicitous.”

The next voice came forth, also a female yet this one was Twi’lek rather than an aquatic species, “Viso,” she inclined her head in greeting, “Shia Kanu; Master Haas has some valid concerns, you must understand that the Force is in all things and that includes the very day to day that we live in. It is full of temptations and trials alike. How would you handle yourself in one of these situations?” From this point the two Masters began to focus on Viso and touch upon the surface thoughts gracing his mind. They weren’t so much focusing on the verbal answer but rather the response of his character. His mental reaction was important and they were watching closely.

Once more Aloura spoke, “Could you please tell us of your background on Malastare?” Insight into his origins would be telling as well. In the past is where greed, fear, and revenge dwelt, dangerous emotions for a Jedi. But more importantly was how determined was he to overcome these things. This would be a telling moment indeed for Viso.

Excitement filled the air as new sights and sounds were all around for the Dug to take in. Species of all different walks of life populated the grounds; it was hard for the young Dug to contain his natural curiosity. If it weren’t for the presence of Mr. Kenobi, it might of taken Viso some time to get to those chambers. Not only did the wiser man carry himself in a respectable manner, but also he seemed to demand the respect of the other inhabitants of this camp; most stopped to greet him in the same calm manner. Upon this observation, Viso became more conscious of how you were supposed to carry yourself around Mr.Kenobi.

As the pair entered the chambers of the Council, Viso’s observations were only confirmed, as it seemed to be a more formal setting. The Dug did his best to fix his posture as they approached the seated individuals. Viso noticed the three empty chairs before them, wondering if one of the seats was Mr. Kenobi’s.

Viso offered a slight nod to the individuals that sat before them as Mr. Kenobi began his introductions. The Dug was quite proud that the man he only just met, thought that highly of him to bring him to meet his masters.

As questions began flying toward him, VIso’s attention quickly turned to the Masters. It was a bit overwhelming at first, the whole formal setting and how serious this appeared to be to everyone. The setting coupled with the fact that it took Viso a moment or two to digest what they were saying, made answering questions a bit stressful for the Dug.

Instead of answer each question one by one, he instead decided to take the flurry of questions in and contemplate his answers for a moment or two. Both Masters posed questions that were a bit critical of who Viso was and his personality. These queries didn’t offend the Dug, yet he found it rather difficult to communicate his defense in an effective manner with his crude knowledge of the language

Viso began to form his rebuttal as the questions continued to fly. Yes he was inexperienced in whatever they might do here within this camp. Yet, he believed he had already proven to Mr. Kenobi how quick of a study he could be. Even though his family had passed down some knowledge on mechanics, Viso is mainly self-taught in everything he knew. There was no need to know galactic basic in his life, yet the Dug taught himself swiftly so that he might be prepared for work outside of Malastare. He did not know the specific model of ship the Talon was; yet he quickly learned how to best fix it. The Dug believed that this could show how he is able to critically think, adapt and learn at a rapid rate that should overcome any disadvantage he has been put in due to his advanced age.

They then began to put into questions his personality and how he sees the best in everyone within the galaxy. Viso could argue that this was in fact an amazing characteristic to have. Even though he has the ability to place his trust in everyone he meets, Viso is able to see past any outside bias and deal with a situation in a just manner. The Dug felt that this would be an asset to the Coalition as he would be able to go into any peacekeeping situations and view both sides of an argument equitably. When it came to dealing with an individual who might betray said trust, Viso felt he had enough proceedings with such people, that he could recognize who might and who might not be duplicitous.

Attention then turned toward the other Master’s questions. From what Mr. Kenobi had already explained about the “force”, Viso understood there would be some sort of temptation that came with it. Although he knew some type of seduction would be present, he could not honestly tell them how he would deal with it. Without any real grasp on the force and these enticements, he wouldn’t know what his response would be. All the Dug knew was that he was a good person at heart, one who lived without any real desire for power or greed. The only real desire in his life would be his desire to explore the vast galaxy, discovering new cultures and meeting new individuals like Mr. Kenobi.

As the questions came to an end, Viso felt this to be the best opportunity to thank them for their hospitality so far. “Thanks for welcoming Viso to Naboo, Masters,” he said with a slight nod.

The Dug then began to answer the last question and explain where he had come from and why he was standing before them now. After his background was addressed, Viso continued to do his best to communicate his well thought out answers to the Masters. The young Dug could only hope his basic was good enough to display how well he would do within the Coalition.

There it was just as the Masters had been expecting, the verbal answers Viso was giving lined up well with the emotions coming off of him and his surface thoughts did not hide anything from them, he was being truthful and forthright with them. Completely honest. It was a true display of the very characteristics that made someone a Jedi, a guardian of peace and justice, a warrior of light and a keeper of that which was good. His innocence was brought to them and displayed in full; they would not fail to accept him at the value of his person. Viso Gelgan was not the sort to lie and cheat his way through life but he would find humility through hard work and dedication of the spirit. Indeed, Viso was one of the good ones.

Smiles erupted from the two Councilors as they both came to a quiet agreement, even before Gelgan had finished his answers and began his thanks had they come to a conclusion to this scenario. Though there was one more test to be done here and it was something vital to Viso’s future. Was he capable of undertaking the Jedi Path? Many who came through the doors of the precious few Temples and Enclaves placed throughout the Galaxy who had indeed displayed the necessary character to be accepted into the Jedi Order fell short in the means of their capability; to be a Jedi Knight one must feel the Force and be able to not only recognize it but to listen to it. Sensitivity is what they sought, for only one that was upon a certain level of sensitivity could become a Jedi.

Those who could not attain this level of condition were not cast out from the Jedi Coalition, not in the least. Instead they were taken in and offered the chance to join the Antarian Ranger Corps, an organization of non-Force Adepts that still adhered to the Jedi Code though they were not capable of becoming Jedi. Typically the Rangers made up the militant arm of the Coalition though their duties ranged from just that of the soldier to the line cook and the freighter pilot. It was an honorable role to play still.

But now the spotlight was set upon Viso. Master Haas inclined her head in greeting to Viso. “It is our pleasure Viso. But before we come to our final decision we have one final thing for you to do.” She touched a webbed finger upon the arm of her chair and the shades fell gently over the large windows to rest the light from the room so a more comfortable setting. In doing so the natural light of the room sank away and shadows fell upon the edges which severed the fact of the large room’s interior and created the illusion that only Ben Kenobi, Viso Gelgan and the two Council Masters existed. Haas motioned to Kenobi, “Master Kenobi, could you see Viso through this next step please?”

Ben smiled generously and turned to Viso, he set his staff to the ground and took to a kneeling position as the lighting dimmed a bit further to swallow the two Masters that only Viso and Ben now remained. He motioned for Viso to take a seat as well or whatever was more comfortable for him. “Viso, if you could, I want you to just relax for a moment and concentrate on only us. Forget about everything around you. Listen to your breathing for a while, rest yourself. I’m going to test you, to see if you are sensitive to the Force. All you need to do is close your eyes, relax, and listen to my voice.”

He gave Viso plenty of time to see to his task. Surely all the strange things and this miraculous setting had displaced him but now this very moment the world had been sealed away that the little Dug could finally rest his racing mind and settle himself if only for a moment. Even Ben was a bit anxious to see Viso excel though he did not waiver in this task for this was about another’s future and so he would help his new friend to realize that possible future in any way he could.

Once Ben sensed Viso’s mind fall into that place of calm when the body fell into rest just outside of sleep, he spoke quietly to the Dug. “The Force; it is not a new phenomenon nor is it something that has never been around you. It has always been there from your first days and I believe you’ve felt it before. Your aptitude to understand mechanics is natural, yet things of this nature come easily to you; have you ever felt as if you can simply look at a foreign object and truly feel that you know it?” He touched his prone walking staff and brought it to him, unclasping a cylindrical device at its top that was cleverly disguised, obviously he didn’t hand it to Viso that his friend wouldn’t accidentally turn it on and hurt someone, but he held it close and before the Dug. “Feel.” He offered and when the Dug would set his foot upon the cylinder he would know that this was no normal attachment set as the head of a simple walking stick. Ben could already sense Viso’s mind racing as even with his eyes closed he could feel the internal components and as soon as he’d touched the device he was beginning to understand it.

This did not go to say Viso could instantly deduce the workings of a lightsaber and reveal the ‘how’ and ‘why’ it was capable of working. But certainly he’d feel a similarity with it. “I do not speak of the device you’re looking at. But I speak of how you can see about it so easily. I believe the Force is guiding you. I want you to open your mind to the concept of this.”

He bought Viso another few moments to study the lightsaber and get to feeling it more comfortably. “The Force is a current of energy that flows through all things. From you and me, to this device, to the floor we sit on and to the chairs surrounding us. It is in all things and if we take but a moment and still ourselves, we can not only feel the Force that is coursing through the area but we can hear it, we can see it, and in time you can even learn to tap into this flow and use it towards the protection of others.”

“Once more,” he started, taking away the lightsaber and setting it back down to the floor, “relax. Focus on breathing, listen to your heart beat, hear my voice.” He started breathing in tandem with Viso that even as silent a thing as breathing the Dug would be able to harmonize himself even without realizing it. Once Viso was at peace once again, Ben spoke a final time, “The Force is around us all. Viso, open your mind to it, you’ve felt it all your life now you only need to recognize what the feeling is. When your skin pricks and you can feel something before you see it, that is the Force. When you feel someone watching you from behind, that also is the Force. When you can observe a tool and the information how to use it comes so naturally, that too is the Force. Now, calm yourself; listen.”

Just a quick thing to help our Force Team with seeing what is and isn’t your application please be sure to define your text.

Ex: Introduction to your post.
***Force Power - Begin***

Content of the application.

***Force Power - End***

A short description of what a Force Application is looking for. No dialogue whatsoever is counted to the word count. It is okay to insert dialogue into applications just so long as you understand it does not contribute. Physical action is taken on a case by case basis. Some abilities necessitate physical action some do not. Be aware of the power you’re applying for. For instance running could be counted in a Force Speed application but it serves no purpose in Hibernation Trance. A lot of it has to do with common sense.

A good guideline is to reflect how the Force feels to Viso. How it flows around him as he acts with his powers. And how the Force reacts to Viso. Is he in unity with it? Does it flow easily through him? Is he having difficulty? Etc.

Good luck!

As the room began dim around them, Viso took a seat right in front of Mr. Kenobi. The Dug listened to the man’s commands as he tried to contain his excitement for everything around him. It took a moment, yet Viso eventually found inner tranquility in the midst of such a foreign environment. It was a relief for Viso as he had not felt such peace of mind in a long time since leaving his homeworld. The Dug had not been able to fully relax since departing Malastare; but now as his mind wandered, his body followed as it slowly relaxed. No more stress, curiosity or tension on his body; Viso felt focused on the task Mr. Kenobi presented right in front of him.

Listening intently, Viso took in everything Mr. Kenobi spoke of about the Force. Viso agreed with the man that his gift for mechanics was a bit unnatural. It was something that came so easy to him; he was able to decipher foreign machines and parts rather quickly.

Watching closely, the Dug was astonished at what unclipped from the man’s walking staff. The cylindrical object was one Viso had never seen before, he wondered why it was kept hidden on top of the staff. Recognizing the seriousness of the situation, Viso did not reach out to snatch up the device immediately. Yet, he chose to visually study it as Mr. Kenobi held it up. It was something he had never held before, so when Ben offered it up, Viso promptly took the device.

Viso handled the device as delicately as Mr. Kenobi did before handing it to him. Feet held it out in front of him as his eyes slowly started to close. Viso let his touch be the guiding hand in his first impression of this device. Careful not to activate any buttons, his feet felt all the bells and whistles that made up the appearance of the device.

It took a lot in the Dug to not want to fully dissect the device before the Masters. Thankfully, as this urge surfaced, Mr. Kenobi took the object and set it down before both of them. Viso knew now was the time he truly had to relax and set in motion what they had been trying to teach him. His body and mind relaxed once more, eyes shut to fully focus on his this mystical force they had been speaking of. Up till now, Viso was skeptical, but he would trust in what Mr. Kenobi and the Masters were saying.

***Force Sensitivity - Begin***

His mind wandered, nothing but emptiness rolled through the Dug’s head. Viso felt nothing but darkness and empty thoughts. His heart began to race as a worry fell over him, not being able to feel this force. Finding this force wasn’t as easy as the Masters made it seem. How was he supposed to feel something so foreign? Within his struggles, Viso found himself resolute.

A renewed focus only found the Dug, digging deeper within his mind…. and then a realization. All at once it came to him, what if what he was searching for was not so foreign? What if it had been with him all along? His mind focused as his spirits were lifted to complete the task.

All of the sudden, a light in the darkness appeared to him. He could feel the cylindrical object before him, yet not as he knew it previously. His heart fluttered as he could see this object in a new light, it was beautiful. Viso felt this was it; he could feel the force within this object. It surrounded the device, engulfing it in everything life and death exuded from this object.

His comfort in such objects allowed Viso to fully focus on it and the force that flowed through it. Then as if the Dug was exploring outside of his comfort zone, that light began to shine brighter and brighter. His mind centered on this object more intensely as the light was blinding. It grew and grew until it finally reached a climax.

Then all at once like Viso was standing in the path of star exploding, it all rushed toward him. He could finally feel it, everything around him flooded with the force as exactly like the cylindrical device. It was glorious; he had never felt such a force before. Viso found himself overly emotional as he got a deeper look into the force. Even in the darkness that was the chambers now, he could finally see how the force connected through everything, just as the Masters had said. It was chaotic yet peaceful, disorderly yet neat and tidy; everything seemed to exist for a reason.

Viso’s heart raced as it all become a bit overwhelming. It was so much racing around all at once, the Dug found it hard to concentrate any further. Just as the star had exploded, his concentration broke and a vacuum began to take the light away. He recognized that it would always be there, but he could no longer physically focus on it anymore.

***Force Sensitivity - End***

His eyes opened, as his breathing was a bit labored. Viso found himself trying to calm down as he looked toward Mr. Kenobi for his final approval. Was this it? Was this glorious feeling what they were trying to unlock within the Dug?

Lights of the warm Naboo sun spread back within the room and the radiance that brought forth the light brought with it also, enlightenment. The two Masters looked to one another and silently confirmed what the other had felt about the Dug while Ben set his hand on Viso’s shoulder who was obviously a bit rattled and surprised to put it lightly. Ben’s smile was confident and he nodded to his friend approvingly. “Well done,” he intoned and reset the device to his staff and got himself back to his feet. He turned to the judging Masters and nodded, “I believe Viso, is indeed capable. While it is ultimately to the decision of this Council, I would vouch for Viso Gelgan and request that he be granted not only permission to be accepted by the Coalition but that I may accept him as my Padawan Learner.”

Silence did not fall over this setting as the Masters had already come to their conclusions perhaps even before Viso had come from his learned experience. Aloura inclined her head in acknowledgement and while there needn’t be anything else truthfully spoken about what had just happened, she spoke up for the benefit of their guest. “This Council is unanimous in agreement. Viso is certainly sensitive to the Force and the Force to him, as a candidate we feel he is of exceptional potential though in that he should be taken by the oversight of an experienced Master. In conclusion; Viso Gelgan is to be trained as a Jedi as the Apprentice of Master Kenobi.”

Ben bowed before the Council but did not speak in reply for there was none that was necessary. When he was standing straight once more he tapped Viso and both of them made exit of the Council Chamber. He leaned towards the Dug, “They are a busy lot, we’d best not keep them further.” Even as they approached the doorway a trio of other individuals were waiting to enter and see to the Council’s advice. Indeed, they was no rest for the Council.

Once they were clear Ben gave Viso a broad smile, “Congratulations Viso. The Council does not fully accept everyone. You’ve taken your first steps into a larger world and the journey that follows begins right now!” He nodded over his shoulder, “Let’s go, we’ve a lot to do.”

Their first stop was the quartermaster which looked to be an ancient Toydarian who was well past his prime and unable to fly anymore. “Master Y’narrin,” Ben announced, “we’ve got ourselves a special case.” He motioned to Viso and the gruff Toydarian flapped his wings but did not rise up, he turned to Viso and regarded him with squinting eyes.

“Ahhhh, Dug is it? We’ve not had one in that frame.” His wings flapped harder and he coasted from the top of the counter down to Viso’s level and he went after the Dug with a small scanner projected from a datapad. “Just a dimension or two.” He commented briefly and it was finished just as soon as it had come. “Come back in the morning Master Kenobi, we’ll have your Dug fit before the sunrise.” Hard and even strained flaps took the Toydarian back up to the counter where he barked out some commands to his toiling droids behind the counter but his attention ultimately went back to Kenobi, “Your usual kit then?” Ben nodded and when the droids arrived they presented a small bag.

Ben accepted it and handed it to Viso. Inside was a small set of equipment. Two way comm.-link, datapad, the smallest belt available to properly fit his frame with a set of pouches that were empty, and a sized down quarterstaff that could be used for training or even by Ben’s own example, every day use.

A sudden glimpse of the outside sun began to beam into the room as Viso lost complete concentration, looking around for approval from anyone. The Dug believed he had felt something of significance, but how was he to know exactly what they were looking for? Before long relief set in for the young Dug as words of approval shot across the room from all of the Masters. He was indeed thankful that Mr. Kenobi was not let down.

From what the Dug could make out, Viso was set to be a Padawan for Mr. Kenobi. He did not know quite what this meant. Whatever it was, Viso was just exhilarated to continue to work for the man.

Stumbling to his feet, Viso bowed as Mr. Kenobi did before quickly following along behind him. The Dug was surprised to see how many people the Council sees, it seemed like a revolving door for the few. In truth, Viso was glad he met such an adventurous Master rather than one who sat meeting with others all day long.

As they approached their first stop, Viso could quickly recognize the species that fluttered about. This specific species was one that sold him that accidently discharged weapon all the way back on Coruscant. Approaching the Toydarian with excitement, Viso swiftly confirmed his question. He had only a moment to be proud that he might be the only Dug this man had outfitted, before the winged species attacked him with his datapad.

It all was coming at Viso so fast, as a droid appeared to offer him a bag of goods. His curiosity took over as the Dug fumbled through the bag, picking out the smaller quarterstaff.

“Like Mr. Kenobi!”
he exclaimed with glee.

Ben smiled back in return, “I like a good staff.” He commented, “Good for walking, rough terrain, and it can get the point across when a stern instrument is needed in a tough spot. In the line of work and tasks that come to us, the ideal tool is your mind and your voice but failing that we must strive to seek out alternatives that do not result in lethal consequences. Sometimes death is inevitable and no matter how we try to avoid it we are confronted by it. In those cases, Viso, trust in the Force and just like when you are fixing things, it can show you the way in other situations too.”

Turning aside he started walking off, “Let’s get you somewhere to crash, aye?” Taking a lengthy path through the Enclave, taking time to stop at many of the statues and artifacts that were presented on the occasional stand and describing them to the best of his memory, they made exit of the primary structure and out into the main courtyard. The sun was drifting away from its zenith and was edging towards the western sky, mid afternoon it was though the pleasant temperature of Naboo’s spring combined with a generous breeze made the perfect climate. The students from earlier were dismissed from their lessons and were gone this time around.

Taking Viso to another building, this one on the south side of the courtyard and closer to the gates, it was shorter than the tower building but much wider having two small wings attached to the main building. They entered and clearly this building was reserved for the dorms, mess hall and other various living amenities, the few that the Jedi allowed.

In the left wing and at the end of the hall is where Master Kenobi arrived along with Viso. Inside the room was relatively small and meant for nothing more than sleeping, storing gear and a small area to sit on the floor and reflect. It honestly wasn’t much more than that, though it did have a window! A bed and side table were the only furniture save for the footlocker at the foot of the bed. “Outside down the hall is the head and refreshers.” He took a look around and he wasn’t impressed; Ben had never come up in the Jedi Coalition, he had been part of the original founding of the New Jedi Order after the Battle of Endor. In those days the newly formed Jedi Order didn’t have Enclaves or Temples throughout the Galaxy. Now that the Jedi Coalition had formed and now that the Jedi were painfully slow in growth through the stars, they had some certain things to show for it. By the looks of the spartan cell Viso was issued, Ben was clearly not interested in abandoning his Apprentice here to languish through tedious dormitory life and scheduled lessons. But! Viso needed a place to lay his head whenever Ben wasn’t around and those occasions would be there, albeit as few as they’d be.

“Whenever the Council sends me somewhere that for whatever reason you cannot go, this is where you may stay. It is a safe place. Though understand you are not part of the normal classes and study groups. Those are for Padawans that haven’t been selected by a Master to train them or they’ve not progressed mentally to the point where they may be eligible for selection. You, Viso, are selected.” He gave Viso a confident nod, “But do not worry, I won’t so easily leave you here. There’s too much to learn out there!” He jerked his thumb up and pointed behind him and out the door.

“For tonight though, get some rest. You’ve a big day tomorrow! Chow is at 1800,” he mentioned and pointed at the chrono sitting on the bedstand. “Take the rest of the day and familiarize yourself with the area if you’d like or just get some rest. I am going off to get some rest myself. It has been a long time since I’ve had a Padawan and I need to get myself ready to keep up with a younger fella.” He joked and waved, exiting the room and leaving Viso to whatever he so desired.

Tomorrow would indeed be a new day and Viso Gelgan would be jumping hands first right into the mess of it all…
