Updated all. I'll leave sign-ups open for a bit longer, since I think we have the active users for a fourth team if we get a few more sign-ups. Looking for 1-2 more captains.

One more spot left, then sign-ups are closed. Next person will be the last one in, then we'll hold the draft. If the next person to sign up doesn't sign up as a captain, I will ask for someone to switch their role from racer to captain.

I don't want to do three teams of four because the game is intentionally designed to make you want to avoid having to send out only one racer for any given course (which would occur if both your racers crashed on the previous course).

Sign-ups are CLOSED! Adar has agreed to become a captain, so that's sorted as well.

Inaugural Colossus TEAM Trials Draft

Post by Master Buggie » Mon May 10, 2021 5:22 pm

**Mid Rim, Western Reaches, Tashtor Sector**
**Castilon System, Colossus Refueling Station**
**Imanuel Doza Auditorium**

A highlight package of racing craft screaming through checkpoint rings over Castilon plays on your screen. The whine of the racecraft's engines is complemented by a popular musical selection that you recognize from your travels. Flashes of familiar faces play along the screen as several popular racers pose in their gear in front of the camera. Altogether, the introduction to the Inaugural Colossus Team Time Trials Draft is no doubt designed to draw you in, hype you up, and invest you in the team that the pool of racers is bound to get drafted to tonight. There are hundreds of potential draftees in the pool, each with their own set of achievements on the track, their own specialties, and their own racecraft. The analysts have created their so-called "big boards" in preparation for tonight. Talking heads on the sporting news channels have already predicted who will be selected first based on team need and composition. The draft has been analyzed and overanalyzed to the point where the actual selections needed to happen so that life could go on with actual results of who would be racing for which team.

The Galactic Sports Programming Network, better known as GSPN, had won the rights to host the holobroadcast of the inaugural draft. As the camera panned to the panel of five analysts who would be reporting live from the draft, the host began to make his introduction and set the scene. A live band could be heard in the background, and the auditorium of race fans stood, watched or danced to the music, monitored any last minute news on their holopads, and conversed with their fellow fans. Several Varn Badaash race kits could be seen in the crowd, as he was a popular racer who already held multiple records. It was a busy event, particularly for the first draft of the team format. As the panel of insiders detailed the four team captains, they began to explain what each offered as far as skill or qualifications.

It was at this time that a graphic appeared on the side of the display and detailed the format for the inaugural draft. Each of the four team captains would select two other racers to compete with them on a gauntlet of five races. The strategy for each team would be for them to select racers that specialized in flying ships in conditions that perhaps their ships weren't best suited for. The captains, and the order that they would be drafting in for the first round, were as follows:
  1. Team Adar Bolner
  2. Team Varn Badaash
  3. Team Kita Ikari
  4. Team Zasabi Ray
In the second round of the draft, the order would be reversed from the first round, essentially meaning that the fourth team, Team Zasabi Ray, would select back-to-back at the end of the first round and the start of the second round. Team Adar Bolner, despite making the first selection in the draft, would also be responsible for making the final selection.

The team names were yet to be finalized, so they were simply referred to by the name of the captain in charge of each team.

Suddenly, the panel of analysts and insiders stopped talking and the auditorium momentarily silenced, before being drowned in a hail of boos and jeers as the commissioner of the draft stepped out from the wing and took the podium to commence the draft. The fans had engaged in hot debate over some of the commissioner's policies leading up to the night's event, thus they gave him a good-natured ribbing when he stepped out before them. In response, the commissioner gestured to his ear, playfully indicating that he couldn't hear the crowd's cries of feigned disapproval. Once the crowd had settled down at the behest of the commissioner, he formally opened the draft and put Team Adar Bolner on the clock to make their selection. The first selection was in the team captain's hands now, and their only restriction was that they could not select another team captain.

Adar Bolner, it is your selection! Who will become the first overall selection of the Inaugural Colossus Team Trial Draft? More importantly, will they live up to the hype that being the first overall pick carries with it?

The crowd went berserk as the team representative announced the much anticipated selection for Team Adar Bolner. Aliclair Austjor, a young, though little known racer with few accomplishments to speak of behind the controls of a racecraft, was selected first overall. The analysts tore up their draft sheets, some Team Bolner fans in the crowd held their hands to their heads, while fans of other teams pointed and jeered them. One insider immediately reported that the feeling inside the Team Bolner draft room was that, while young Austjor lacked experience, she made up for it in potential. The members of the scouting department were likely staking their careers on this decision, and they had to feel good enough about it to recommend the selection to the team captain. The analyst attempted to reassure fans that the team had done their homework on the selection, but the payoff would ultimately remain to be seen until Racer Austjor pulled up to the course.

The massive displays within the auditorium now showed that Team Varn Badaash was on the clock, and the popular and beloved racer would certainly be making his selection soon. The Team Badaash fans began to rally and cheer as they anticipated the next selection.

((OOC: Sorry to drag you through the mud a bit, Ali. I wasn't expecting you to be selected first, so I just ran with that feeling of surprise in the post.))
